Getting from Luxor's East Bank city center to the West Bank isn't straightforward.

Key sites like the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's Mortuary Temple, and the Colossi of Memnon lack public transportation, and taxis require haggling, which can be a hassle.

That's why I opted for a private car,

which I easily booked via WhatsApp, making my trip incredibly convenient!

2. Comparing Luxor West Bank Tours

👉If you absolutely need a guide's explanations, a guided tour is recommended. But for itinerary flexibility and better value, a private car is far more convenient!

4. Real Experience Review

Private Car Tour Review

I booked a Luxor West Bank half-day trip for ~$17 via WhatsApp.

After providing my pickup location, the driver's contact info was shared immediately. The driver messaged me directly on WhatsApp about 5 minutes before pickup, so I could hop in the car without any waiting.

The car was clean and the air conditioning was powerful, making the entire journey comfortable.

The itinerary covered a total of 4 hours:

Hotel ↔︎ West Bank Round Trip 1 hour / Valley of the Kings 2 hours /

Hatshepsut's Mortuary Temple 1 hour / Colossi of Memnon 5 minutes

💡I was really satisfied with being able to pick and choose the ruins I wanted to see and tailor the visit perfectly!

By the way, if you have a hot air balloon tour scheduled for early morning,

they can also arrange pickup near the balloon landing site. Keep that in mind!

Hot Air Balloon Tour Review (Cancelled)

The Luxor hot air balloon tour was what I looked forward to most during my Egypt trip,

but unfortunately, I received a cancellation notice the evening before due to 'strong winds and adverse weather conditions'.

While the refund was automatically processed, due to payment processing with the tour operator, it was expected 2-3 months later, so I hadn't received it yet.

If you have some flexibility in your Luxor stay, rescheduling for another day is possible, so I recommend booking this tour early in your trip!

5. Final Thoughts

For Luxor's West Bank, a private car is most efficient, especially for two or more people.

Hot air balloon tours are weather-sensitive, so always book them early in your trip.

A private car can also take you to East Bank sites like Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple. For an additional fee, you can combine both West and East Bank tours in one go.
