Planning to exchange currency at Luxor Airport? Here are some key takeaways from my experience using a Travelog card:
✅ When exchanging at the airport, aim for smaller denominations, ideally 100 EGP notes.
✅ You can exchange currency without incurring fees at specific ATMs.
✅ The maximum withdrawal amount per transaction is 4,000 EGP (approximately ~$75).
✅ Cash is frequently used in Egypt, even in cities, so be prepared.
1. Using Your Travelog Card at Luxor Airport
Upon arriving in Egypt, I immediately traveled from Cairo to Luxor. While I'd heard that card payments are generally smooth in Egypt, services like InDrive often require cash. To ensure I had enough local currency, I sought out a Travelog ATM for currency exchange.

After collecting your luggage at Luxor Airport, you'll spot an ATM right away – that's where you can make your exchange.
Important tip: If you need to top up funds on your card for exchange, you'll require mobile data. Make sure to purchase an eSIM in advance. If you haven't yet, you can get a 20% discount on an Egypt eSIM through the link below:

2. Fee-Free Travelog Exchange at Luxor Airport
For fee-free withdrawals with your Travelog card in Egypt, look for BANQUE MISR ATMs. These are easily recognizable by their purple background and gold logo.

Prepare your card and insert it into the slot. I tried contactless first, but it didn't work, so a direct insertion was needed.

Wait a moment after inserting your card!

Then, switch the language to English. Since the default is Arabic, this step is essential!

Your PIN is 4 digits.

The maximum withdrawal amount is 4,000 EGP, so I withdrew the full amount!

However, if you plan to use services like InDrive from the airport, you absolutely need to withdraw smaller denominations! While drivers are generally good about making change, it's always best for your peace of mind to have the exact amount ready. Unfortunately, I didn't have a choice in denominations and received all 200 EGP notes.

Heads up: you won't get a receipt! Just confirm you don't need one and wait for your cash.

3. Smooth Egyptian Pound Exchange with Travelog
With my cash successfully withdrawn, my Luxor adventure officially began! Keep in mind that the denominations available vary by ATM; at the airport, I only received 200 EGP notes. It's always a good idea to try and get as many smaller bills as possible for convenience.

Remember, you'll need mobile data to transfer funds when withdrawing cash, so make sure your eSIM is ready. I'll be sharing my InDrive review soon!
