I've been on the hunt for the perfect "chon-cance" (countryside vacation) spot for this fall, and it brought back memories of some incredible places I've visited before. So, I decided to compile a list of my top four recommendations.

These are all places I've personally experienced, handpicked for their unique charm.

From the coastal vibes of Namhae to the serene mountains of Hadong, the breathtaking views of Gunwi, and the rustic luxury of Yeongwol, each offers a distinct atmosphere. If you're planning your fall 2026 countryside escape, you're sure to find one that perfectly matches your vibe! :)

1. Namhae Ain Minbak

First up is Ain Minbak in Namhae.

Just looking at the photos, you can feel the cozy, traditional countryside home atmosphere that I absolutely loved here.

Unlike the typical sleek, newly built accommodations you often see these days, this place genuinely makes you feel like you're visiting a real rural home.

Sitting in the yard, enjoying the breeze, then grilling some meat for dinner, and finally unwinding while gazing at the quiet neighborhood lights – that's what a perfect countryside escape is all about.

What I loved most was the ability to have a cast-iron pot barbecue in the yard, all while enjoying a view of the Namhae sea!

If you're looking for a charming countryside stay with a sea view, keep Namhae Ain Minbak in mind.

2. Hadong Chunjeolhan Sunpilssi

If you're searching for a countryside stay in Hadong, I truly recommend "Chunjeolhan Sunpilssi" (Kind Mr. Sunpil).

This place offers a different vibe than Namhae. It's more about quietly unwinding amidst mountains and nature, rather than the sea.

Best of all, it's a private rental, meaning only one group stays per day, making it perfect for spending comfortable, undisturbed time with your companions.

The accommodation itself had a familiar and cozy atmosphere, just like a regular home.

There's also a spacious yard, perfect for spending time outdoors when the weather is nice, and it would be great for families with children.

And if you opt for the barbecue, the owner provides various side dishes.

From steamed eggs to an assortment of seasoned vegetables, it felt like enjoying a homemade meal in a countryside home. The owner's cooking was truly delicious!

These side dishes paired incredibly well with the grilled meat – we practically cleaned our plates!

With its private rental, ample space, cast-iron pot barbecue, and heartfelt side dishes, this place comes highly recommended for a family trip.

3. Gunwi Jayeondalmeun Chiyunongjang

Next up is a slightly different kind of countryside escape: Gunwi Jayeondalmeun Chiyunongjang (Nature-Resembling Healing Farm).

Is this Switzerland or Korea?! I booked this place purely for the breathtaking views from 2,300 feet (700 meters) above sea level.

This place is less about a quaint, aesthetic countryside stay and more about a truly authentic rural experience.

The accommodation is genuinely nestled deep in the mountains, so the drive up is an adventure in itself.

The last 10 minutes or so involve winding mountain roads, which might be a bit challenging for novice drivers.

Once you reach the top, you're greeted by a sprawling view of Gunwi Lake and the surrounding mountains.

I must have taken over 100 photos and videos of this view alone!

We booked the "Nature Room," which comes with a private bathroom.

The room itself felt exactly like a small room at my grandmother's house from childhood. There's no air conditioning, and you need to bring your own bedding, pillows, and cooking utensils. It's best to think of it as a glamping experience.

Sitting outside in a chair, listening to music, reading a book, and chatting – time just melted away.

The next morning, I woke up at 5:50 AM to catch the sunrise and a spectacular sea of clouds.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to just relax and do nothing while surrounded by nature.

If you prefer spending a day in nature, even with a little less comfort than a hotel, this place will surely satisfy.

4. Yeongwol Stay Sangol Gangnam

Compared to the previous places, this is a more aesthetically pleasing and 'trendy' countryside stay.

It's completely surrounded by mountains, yet the accommodation has a distinct Bali-inspired ambiance.

With an outdoor jacuzzi, a private courtyard, and an outdoor dining room, it was perfect for relaxing all day long within the property.

Especially in the evening, soaking in the jacuzzi, enjoying a bonfire, and feeling the mountain breeze – it truly makes you want to just stay still and appreciate the moment.

In autumn, the lush green mountains will transform into vibrant fall foliage, creating an entirely different and equally stunning atmosphere.

This is highly recommended for those who desire a countryside escape but don't want to compromise on style and comfort.

If you're someone who wants to quietly relax amidst nature while staying in a beautiful accommodation, this would likely be the best fit among the four.

Even within the "countryside escape" theme, you can find quite different atmospheres: seaside, mountain, private rentals, and stylish retreats.
