Hey there, fellow foodies and travel enthusiasts!
This past weekend, I found myself craving some delicious sushi during a trip to Oradea, Romania.
After a bit of searching, I stumbled upon a true local gem that's been serving up fantastic Japanese cuisine since 2019: Kintaro Sushi & More. It's become a beloved spot in Oradea, and for good reason!
Today, I'm excited to share my experience at this popular Japanese and sushi specialty restaurant, which has consistently been a local favorite in Oradea for the past seven years.

Restaurant Ambiance

The restaurant's exterior is inviting. We arrived right at opening time, and there were already 4-5 groups enjoying the outdoor seating.

Stepping inside, you're greeted by the drink and alcohol bar, with the kitchen conveniently located right next to it.

Follow this path, and you'll find the restrooms.

I was impressed by how clean they were – something that's often a pleasant surprise when traveling in Europe! It's always a good sign when a restaurant keeps its facilities spotless.

The interior boasts plenty of tables, easily accommodating over 10 groups, making it quite spacious.
With its clean, modern decor, it's the perfect setting for a cozy date night or a relaxed, quality meal.
Kintaro Menu Highlights

Kintaro offers a diverse menu, split into a larger food menu and a smaller drink menu.
Their main attractions are undoubtedly the sushi and roll selection, alongside their authentic Japanese ramen.
Beyond these, you'll find a wide array of options including rolls, sashimi, various sushi types, ramen, Tom Yum Goong (a nice surprise!), salads, gyoza, and fried dishes.

Ramen Pork
This delightful pork ramen, priced at 59 RON, featured perfectly clean and savory pork chashu in a rich soy-based broth.
While tasting the broth on its own might give a slightly salty impression, it perfectly balanced with the noodles. The subtle mushroom aroma added another layer of deliciousness, making every bite a pleasure.
It truly transported me, making me dream of a trip to Japan!

Next up, we indulged in some sushi and sashimi. From left to right:
Philadelphia Classic (8pcs)
Priced at 58 RON, this salmon roll was exactly what I was craving. The combination of creamy cream cheese, fresh avocado, and tender salmon was absolutely divine – rich, smooth, and incredibly satisfying.
That first bite was pure bliss!
Miyagi Roll (8 pcs)
My husband chose this one, and for 60 RON, it was a textural adventure! The crispy fried shrimp offered a satisfying crunch, complemented by the popping sensation of flying fish roe. My only minor note was that the teriyaki sauce drizzled on top was a bit on the strong side.
Shrimp Sashimi
At 37 RON, this was the dish I was most excited for, but also the biggest disappointment. Even though the menu picture didn't quite look like raw shrimp, I optimistically ordered it, hoping for the best. Alas, it was just cooked shrimp, the kind you'd find on a regular shrimp sushi or even in your own fridge. My longing for fresh, raw shrimp remains!
Overall Verdict & Summary
Hygiene & Atmosphere: ★★★★★
Taste: ★★★★☆
Would I Revisit?: ★★★☆☆
After a long craving, this Japanese meal truly hit the spot!
Kintaro Sushi & More offers significantly better quality than some other Japanese restaurants I've tried in the region, like those in Debrecen. It's definitely a place I'd return to when that Japanese food craving strikes again.
I hope this review helps you on your culinary adventures! Happy travels and delicious dining!❤️
