It seemed like many of the local eateries and cafes closed early, making it tough to find a good spot still open late. That's when I stumbled upon Jeongilmyeon, a highly-rated Mazesoba spot that stays open until 8 PM – a true lifesaver!

As I arrived, the sun was just beginning to set, painting the sky with beautiful shades of red. Amidst the older buildings, the bright yellow sign of Jeongilmyeon really stands out, making it easy to spot.

Inside Jeongilmyeon

Stepping inside Jeongilmyeon, I was surprised to see it quite busy, even though it was close to closing time. I originally planned to snap a wide shot of the interior, but decided against it – it’s always tricky taking photos when there are a lot of diners around! I grabbed a seat at one of the counter-style tables, and there are also two-person tables available.

The restaurant mentions 1-hour parking support at "Jungang Paid Parking Lot," but I couldn't find its exact location on the map.

The walls are adorned with quirky illustrations of food, beer, and even a bear (I think!). For those enjoying ramen, disposable aprons are a must-have to keep your clothes splash-free!

The Menu

While Jeongilmyeon does offer ramen, it's truly renowned for its Mazesoba and Aburasoba. I recently had an incredible Aburasoba experience at a top-tier spot in Seomyeon, Busan, and it left such an impression that I knew I had to try Jeongilmyeon's version too.

They even provide instructions on how to best enjoy your soba. After savoring a few bites of the noodles, try adding some kelp vinegar to elevate the flavor profile. And if you're still feeling a bit hungry, don't hesitate to ask for a small bowl of rice to mix in with the remaining sauce – it's a fantastic way to finish your meal!

First up, the classic side dish: Chicken Karaage. While many enjoy it with soy sauce, I personally prefer dipping these crispy bites into the creamy white tartar sauce they provide – it’s a delightful combination!

These were so perfectly crispy, they almost scraped the roof of my mouth! There's nothing quite like fresh, hot karaage right out of the fryer.

And here it is: the Aburasoba! Just look at that presentation – it's a winner from the start. I remember the first time I tried Aburasoba, I was a bit taken aback by the sheer amount of green onions. But to my surprise, they blended perfectly with the other ingredients, creating a truly harmonious flavor.

The noodles mixed smoothly with the rich sauce, and the egg yolk added a beautiful, glossy sheen, making every bite incredibly inviting.

The seasoning was just right – not too salty – and I devoured the entire bowl in no time. It's clear why this place was still packed with diners right up until closing. It truly lives up to its reputation as a local favorite for ramen and Mazesoba!
