InterContinental Alpensia Pyeongchang Review: King Classic Room

This is my review of a stay at the InterContinental Alpensia Pyeongchang Hotel, which is IHG's third hotel in South Korea.

The InterContinental Alpensia Pyeongchang Resort is a luxurious 5-star hotel offering panoramic views of Daegwallyeong. ​

Most hotels have doormen, but despite visiting here multiple times, I don't recall seeing any doormen. ​

Upon entering, you'll find the Oxy Lounge, and inside the lounge is the Oxy Deli.

It's a place brimming with delicious cakes and pastries. ​

This is a look at the front desk.

I arrived around 1 PM and noticed people already checking in. ​

Thanks to my IHG Ambassador benefits, I checked in at the member-exclusive desk.

Funnily enough, the member-exclusive desk actually took longer. ​

This is the Oxy Lounge, which I used very frequently during this trip.

I had a curious experience: the Wi-Fi worked perfectly on my phone in the room, but my laptop couldn't connect, so I often came down to the Oxy Lounge at night to work.

The Wi-Fi worked great in the Oxy Lounge, though! ​

My room was assigned on the 4th floor. ​

I noticed InterContinental's distinctive signature scent was quite strong.

First up, the bathroom and toilet located right by the entrance.

When traveling with kids, having a bathtub is always a plus, and I was so glad this room had one!

You'll find two bathrobes and two pairs of slippers provided.

They had already prepared extra slippers for the children, so I only needed to request additional bathrobes. ​

We booked a King-size bed room and requested an extra bed separately.

Our eldest is now in the upper grades, so an extra bed has become a necessity! ​

Our eldest immediately claimed the extra bed, declaring it theirs for the night! ​

Ambassador benefits include late checkout until 4 PM and a ~$15 F&B credit.

I was informed that a room upgrade wasn't possible due to the hotel being fully booked, and Ambassador benefits couldn't be applied since it was a reward night.

​Alpensia Resort Pyeongchang offers three fantastic accommodation options in total: two hotels (the luxurious InterContinental Hotel and the comfortable Holiday Inn Hotel) and one charming condo-style resort, the Holiday Inn & Suites.

Among these, the InterContinental Alpensia Pyeongchang stands out as the resort's most opulent 5-star hotel.

Mellow Trip's Final Thoughts

During this summer vacation, we had a wonderful 3-night, 4-day stay enjoying Alpensia Resort.

However, the Wi-Fi in our room unfortunately wasn't working. Despite reaching out two or three times, the complete lack of feedback was quite disappointing.

They mentioned they had checked it when we inquired later, but it remained unresolved.

Among the staff at the front desk, only one older gentleman consistently greeted us with a bright smile and genuine kindness. The other staff, unfortunately, felt much more formal and business-like.

While the teams at other facilities were incredibly friendly, I couldn't quite say the same for the front desk staff, which was a bit of a letdown.

I've also heard rumors that InterContinental COEX will be rebranding to Marriott next year, which I find quite disheartening.

My sincere hope is to see more IHG properties thrive and expand. And as for InterContinental Alpensia Pyeongchang, I truly wish it continues to be well-maintained and remains a beloved destination for many years to come! ​
