JBS Drone Academy Iksan Review: Hands-on Flight & RC Car Fun 2026
Discover the JBS Drone Academy in Iksan, South Korea, where you can master drone flying and enjoy thrilling RC car and excavator experiences. Perfect for beginners and families seeking unique fun!
Quick answer
- JBS Drone Academy offers drone simulation, real flight practice, RC car, and RC excavator experiences.
- The academy is located in Hamyal-eup, Iksan, North Jeolla Province, South Korea.
- It's suitable for drone beginners, those interested in certification, and families with children.
- The director previously worked as a vehicle director for the popular TV show '2 Days & 1 Night'.

Whenever we go on a shoot or travel, my husband always handles everything from the camera to the drone at our house. I usually just watch from the side, but sometimes...
...I ask, “Can’t I try flying the drone just once?”
And every single time, the answer I get back is firm.
“No. You’re going to hit the gas too hard.”
Seriously, a drone having sudden acceleration? It’s not even a car! LOL 😭
Okay, then! I thought, "Let me learn how to do this properly!" and while researching, I discovered **JBS Drone Training Center** (JBS드론교육원) in Hamyeol-eup, Iksan (익산), Jeollabuk-do.
1) JBS Drone Training Center
As I was searching for an **Iksan Drone Training Center** (익산드론교육원) among several options, there was one particular reason why JBS Drone Training Center caught my eye. It's operated directly by the vehicle director who participated in the filming of '1 Night 2 Days'!
Knowing that someone who has worked on broadcast sets is running it made me even more curious. After a quick inquiry, I decided to take the **drone training** myself.
When I asked my husband to come along, he grumbled at first, saying, “I already know how to fly one, why would I go there?” But he ended up coming with me anyway. (P.S. This man’s attitude does a complete 180 soon enough, LOL!)

The training center is located in a relatively quiet area, which seemed perfect for actual flight practice. When you arrive, two cute dogs come out to greet you! At first, I was a little nervous because they were Jindo dogs, but they turned out to be really friendly and gentle, loving people much more than I expected.
The director also welcomed us warmly, so there wasn't much awkwardness or pressure when we first visited.

2) Drone Training
Before we started flying drones for real, we had a simulation training session indoors.
Personally, I felt this process was really crucial for beginners. They explained everything step-by-step: from which direction the drone moves when you operate the controller, how to distinguish between front and back, and how to maneuver during takeoff and landing.
For someone like me, who had never properly held a controller before, getting my fingers used to the simulator first was much less intimidating than trying to fly an actual drone right away.
If you're looking into a **drone license** or a **national drone certification**, it's worth checking if they offer systematic learning, not just how to fly the aircraft, but also these fundamental controls.
The director explained things slowly and patiently, and corrected me immediately whenever I made a wrong move, so my initial nervousness quickly faded.

3) Drone Practice
After practicing with the simulator, it was finally time to fly a real drone!
When the actual drone lifted off right in front of my eyes, the level of tension was completely different from the simulation.
And then the director, jokingly, said beside me,
“If this falls, you’ll have to pay for it, LOL!”
...
I was already nervous, but then my fingers suddenly started disobeying me even more, LOL.
Still, there weren't many large obstacles around, and I had a relatively wide space to fly, so I could operate it step-by-step. I got to experience both a drone equipped with a camera and one controlled visually, giving me a real sense of what a **drone experience** is truly like.

What I particularly remember was practicing the basic flight maneuvers used in the Class 1 Drone Certification (드론자격증) exam.
The problem was that it was quite windy that day...!
I tried to do a triangular flight, but I couldn't tell if what I drew was a triangle or a circle, lol. Then I tried a circular flight, and it suddenly moved in a U-shape... It was like my fingers and the drone had different ideas!
But after trying it myself, I somewhat understood why my husband always takes out his drone whenever we travel. The fun of directly controlling the view from above was much greater than I expected.
I can't let my husband have all the fun by himself anymore, so I'll have to learn properly too!!

4) RC Experience
And this is where an unexpected twist began.
The JBS Drone Training Center (JBS드론교육원) doesn't just offer drone education (드론교육); there was also a space where you could directly operate RC cars and RC heavy equipment.
After a brief lesson from the director on how to operate it, I tried moving an RC excavator. It could scoop up dirt like a real excavator, turn directions, and even transfer it onto a trailer.
But where did my husband go, the one who was saying earlier,
“Why are we even going there?”
His eyes completely changed once he got his hands on the RC excavator, lolol.
Scooping dirt, loading it onto the truck, moving again... repeating it over and over, with his mouth agape in concentration, it was so funny, lolol. I thought, 'Men really become like kids when they see something like this, no matter their age,' but the director later told me that I was also playing with my mouth open.

Outside, there was also a track where you could drive RC cars. RC cars were relatively simpler to operate than drones or RC excavators, so I adapted quickly.
So, I felt that this place, the Jeonbuk Drone Training Center (전북드론교육원), sought out by those aiming for certification, was also a fun space for families to have a unique experience together.

Especially for those looking into Iksan Drone (익산드론) training or certification courses, and if you have kids who love drones or RC equipment, it seems like a great place for a unique Iksan Experience (익산체험).
Initially, my goal was to learn about drones, but after going, it felt like my husband had much more fun, lolol.

Next time, we plan to bring our nieces and nephews along to experience it again. The drones were fun, but with the RC heavy equipment too, I think the kids would be absolutely thrilled.
If you could only choose one to experience – Drone vs. RC Excavator vs. RC Car – which one would you pick?
