Its expansive beaches, coupled with the vibrant Cicada Market and Tamarind Market that come alive every weekend, make it truly captivating.
While a quick beach fix from Bangkok or Samut Prakan might lead me to nearby Bang Saen, when I have a full weekend to spare, Hua Hin is always my go-to.
Planning my recent Hua Hin weekend getaway, I had three non-negotiable criteria for accommodation:
It couldn't be too far from the ocean.
It needed to be within walking distance of Cicada Market.
And it had to be budget-friendly.
While Hua Hin boasts incredible 5-star luxury resorts right on the beachfront, for a practical trip focused on exploring beaches and cafes all day, and enjoying pad Thai and local beers at the night markets until late, spending ~$138-~$207 per night wasn't my priority. I opted for a value-for-money hotel instead.

Beach Access That Rivals 5-Star Resorts
Having traveled to many cities, I've noticed that Ibis hotels generally have excellent locations, and the Hua Hin branch was no exception.
While the hotel isn't directly connected to the beach, just about a quarter-mile (around 1,300 feet) down a nearby alley, the view suddenly opens up to a vast, stunning ocean.
Honestly, I preferred it this way. It felt much more open and expansive than a small, private beach area typically reserved for hotel guests.
Walking barefoot along the shore, you naturally head towards Cicada Market. It felt like I was enjoying the same beautiful beach route as guests at much pricier resorts, but at a fraction of the cost.
A Stroll to Cicada Market
My favorite time in Hua Hin is the enchanting night market atmosphere at Cicada Market as evening descends.
With live music filling the air, simply wandering through the bustling market elevates your travel mood.
After exploring both Cicada Market and Tamarind Market and grabbing dinner, we walked back to the hotel along the beach path.
That leisurely stroll back, digesting our meal and listening to the waves, was one of the most memorable moments of our Hua Hin trip.
It was incredibly convenient to enjoy our weekend evening without needing to drive anywhere, relying solely on walking.
A Real Look at the Standard Double Room for Savvy Travelers
I stayed in the Standard Double Room, which is the most basic room type.
True to a business hotel chain, the room isn't particularly spacious.
However, all the essential elements—cleanliness, air conditioning, shower water pressure, and basic amenities—were impeccably maintained.
It felt well-organized and provided everything I needed.
For a trip where I spent my days exploring beaches and cafes, and my evenings at the markets, the room was perfectly satisfactory as a comfortable place to unwind.
