Jek Piah: Famous for Thai Jim Jum
Hua Hin, Thailand's charming resort town, often feels like a quaint escape compared to its more bustling counterparts like Pattaya.
While its dining scene might not be as vast, the quality of its local eateries certainly stands out.
Among them, Jek Piah, renowned for its authentic Jim Jum, is arguably the most famous. I'm excited to share my experience at this beloved local gem.

Jek Piah is celebrated for its Jim Jum, a Thai-style hot pot often compared to shabu-shabu.
While the name might be a bit of a tongue-twister, finding it is easy as it's conveniently located near the lively Hua Hin Night Market.
This authentic Thai eatery is a true local favorite, consistently bustling with both residents and curious tourists.

We made sure to get there right at opening, which is why my photos might look deceptively empty.
Trust me, this place is perpetually packed, with diners often spilling out onto the sidewalk.
And fair warning, as many reviews mention, it gets incredibly warm inside!
Jek Piah Menu Highlights

Of course, we ordered the star of the show: Jim Jum!
On the menu, it's listed as SOUP SUKIYAKI STYLE, and you can choose between pork, seafood, or a mix of both.
We opted for the mixed option to get a taste of everything.
Given the heat, a cold beer was the first order of business!
Soon after, our fresh vegetables and meats arrived.

Then came the showstopper: a clay pot simmering like a mini-volcano, bubbling away right at our table.
As if the restaurant wasn't warm enough, this fiery pot certainly added to the tropical ambiance!

We tossed all the veggies, meat, and seafood right into the bubbling broth and let it cook.
A quick note on hygiene: it's a very local spot, so don't expect pristine conditions, but I'm happy to report we had no stomach issues!
Next up was another dish.
Do you recognize this one?

Served in what looked like an antique metal pot, this was Kung Op Woon Sen, often described as Thai-style glass noodle stir-fry.
'Kung' means shrimp, so it's a shrimp glass noodle casserole.
I'm not sure if other variations are available, but if you're ever in Thailand, you absolutely must try this!
It was my first time having Op Woon Sen, and honestly, it was mind-blowingly delicious – even better than Pad Thai in my opinion.
You can find Pad Thai almost anywhere, so make sure to seek this out when you're in Thailand!
Just like the Jim Jum, this rusty-looking pot was incredibly hot, keeping the dish warm throughout our meal.
It's a shame I haven't found it readily available at other restaurants, even in Bangkok, since then.

We also ordered Satay, which was exactly what you'd expect – flavorful skewers, perfectly complemented by its rich dipping sauce.
A delicious, familiar taste!
Jek Piah Review & Tips
Overall, every dish at Jek Piah was fantastic.
The Jim Jum was wonderfully flavorful and easy to enjoy – a perfect comforting soup dish, especially for those who love a good broth.
But the Kung Op Woon Sen truly stole the show, it was absolutely incredible! ㅎㅎㅎ
My only minor complaint? The restaurant gets incredibly hot, and we were definitely sweating through our meal.

Since it's such a popular spot, expect a wait.
I highly recommend getting there right at opening (an 'open run,' as they say) to beat the crowds.
The photo above, taken after we finished, shows just how many people were waiting, even spilling onto the sidewalk.
Despite the heat, Jek Piah is definitely a must-try for an authentic Hua Hin culinary adventure! :)
