Looking for an affordable, stylish place to stay in Vienna? Our Hotel Schani Wien review covers its prime location near Central Station, rates, and rooms.
Vienna, Austria, is home to the stunning State Opera House and
gorgeous Habsburg palaces, making it a dream destination for travelers.
However, it is known as one of the pricier spots in Europe,
meaning that finding a place to stay right in the historic center can really break the bank.
So, while it’s a little further out from the absolute center,
I chose a Vienna hotel near the Central Station (Hauptbahnhof)—a major transport hub.
It saved me a ton on accommodation costs and made getting around incredibly efficient!
Here is my review of Hotel Schani Wien in Vienna, Austria,
which was incredibly convenient because of its proximity to the station. I’ve put together everything
on its location, booking costs, check-in process, and the rooms themselves.

1. Location
Hotel Schani Wien is just a 5 to 10-minute walk from Vienna Central Station,
making it extremely convenient if you are traveling by train
to arrive from or head off to another city.
We flew into Vienna for this trip,
and since there are plenty of direct trains from the airport straight to the Central Station,
our transit time from the airport to the hotel was super short and hassle-free.
Even better, the Tram D line stop, which takes you directly to the Vienna State Opera
in the heart of the city's main sightseeing area,
is only a 1-minute walk from the hotel,
making it incredibly easy to reach all the major tourist spots.

2. Accommodation Rates
When we stayed, Hotel Schani Wien cost us
~$275 for 3 nights in their most basic room category.
If you look at Vienna hotel prices for June,
4-star hotels around the city center near the Opera House
easily run around ~$256 per night,
whereas Hotel Schani Wien (also a 4-star hotel) is priced in the low $130s per night.

3. Lobby & Check-in
The moment I stepped inside Hotel Schani Wien,
I thought, "Wait, is this a trendy neighborhood cafe?!"
The lobby is incredibly spacious with lots of cozy spots to sit and relax,
and they actually run a fully functioning cafe right out of the lobby space.
You check in at the counter pictured here,
and you can also order coffee and other drinks here as well.
When I arrived, there was no staff member at the desk,
but they have tablets set up for self-check-in.
Simply enter your name, along with your check-in and check-out dates,
to pull up your reservation and complete the process.
Next up, we needed to program our room details onto the keycard.
You just place one of the blank white cards next to the terminal onto the card reader,
press the button, and voila!
It seems to load your room details right onto the card. Super easy!
4. The Room
When choosing hotels for a trip to Europe,
there are a few criteria I look for, but as long as it meets my location and budget needs,
I always make sure to double-check the room size.
Since long-haul trips to Europe usually last about 9 to 10 days,
we travel with a lot of luggage and massive suitcases.
If the room is only big enough for a bed, you won't even be able to open your suitcases properly!
Hotel Schani Wien has rooms that are about 20m² (around 215 sq ft),
which meant plenty of space to lay out two large suitcases without feeling cramped.
On both sides of the bed, there are handy switches for the reading lights,
as well as easily accessible power outlets for your chargers.
There's also a safety deposit box tucked under one of the bedside shelves,
perfect for storing any valuables you don't want to carry around during the day.
By the window, there's a small sofa and a little table.
It's a great spot to wind down after a busy day of exploring Vienna,
chatting over some local snacks and treats.
Maybe because we visited during the Christmas season,
though I'm not sure if this is a standard amenity,
but we found a lovely little welcome chocolate waiting for us on the table.
Next to the table, you'll find the closet and shelving unit,
and I thought the design here was quite unique and stylish.
Those little open shelves were so convenient for organizing our skincare products,
accessories, and makeup.
Honestly, I wanted to pack the whole shelf and take it to our next hotel!
It really felt like Hotel Schani Wien made exceptionally clever
use of space.
For instance, the toilet is separate from the main shower area.
The vanity sink is situated just outside the shower booth,
but you can pull a curtain to partition it off from the bedroom area.
This also blocks the view of the shower,
making it totally comfortable and private even if you're traveling with friends.
The shower only comes stocked with a 2-in-1 shampoo and body wash,
so if you prefer using separate hair and skin products,
you'll definitely want to pack your own.
The toilet is located behind a separate door right by the entrance,
keeping it completely independent from the shower space.
They provided plenty of towels for the two of us,
and we loved that the hair dryer wasn't fixed to the wall—so much more convenient!
There's a full-length mirror right in front of the shower area,
perfect for checking your outfit before heading out for the day.
The view from the window wasn't half bad either!!

You can take tram line D from the stop located just a 1-minute walk from the hotel. The tram takes you directly to the State Opera without transferring, providing excellent access to tourist attractions.
You can use the tablets provided in the lobby for self check-in. Simply enter your name and date to look up your reservation, then place a white card on the terminal to issue your room key yourself.
The room area is about 20 square meters, offering enough space to lay out two suitcases. The toilet and shower areas are separated, and the sink is located outside the shower booth, allowing you to divide the space with a curtain.
The shower booth only comes with a single 2-in-1 shampoo and body wash product by default. If you prefer to use separate hair and body products, it is recommended to bring your own toiletries.
