Discover the secrets of Hanoi's famous egg coffee! Join a fun, hands-on class at Café Minh in the Old Quarter and learn to craft this unique Vietnamese delicacy. Perfect for an authentic cultural experience in 2026.
Vietnam is renowned for its coffee, but in Hanoi, there's one particular brew that stands out: egg coffee. I stumbled upon a hands-on class to make it and decided to join, curious to learn the secrets behind this unique beverage.
I didn't initially know about the class. Before my trip to Hanoi, I was browsing Klook for interesting activities to add to my itinerary. That's where I discovered and immediately booked this experience. Klook isn't just for standard tours; you can often find unique and worthwhile activities if you take the time to look. I found it on Klook and booked it right away.
Café Minh
The class is held at Café Minh in Hanoi, nestled in an alley of the Old Quarter, close to Ta Hien Beer Street. You can choose times starting from 10:00 AM, but I opted for the 3:00 PM slot. I figured an afternoon class would be more relaxed than rushing in the morning, especially if I wanted to sleep in a bit.
The first floor looks like this, and the class takes place upstairs.
The upstairs area had a lovely Vietnamese ambiance, perfect for enjoying a drink while watching the street below.
With our instructor, we officially began. We were going to make three different types of coffee. The process was surprisingly simple. First, we separated the egg yolks and whisked them into a frothy, creamy topping.
Then, we added the finishing touches with some creative decorating!
The instructor showed us an example, and while you could get creative, I opted to follow their lead since my artistic skills aren't exactly top-notch, haha.
One tip: be careful not to use too much syrup when decorating, or your coffee will become overly sweet.
After the egg coffee, we also made brown coffee and white coffee, which were even simpler. It felt less about learning complex barista skills and more about the fun of personally making Hanoi's famous egg coffee. It's truly about the experience!
I booked this experience through Klook, and you can select your preferred time slot from the available options, making it easy to fit into your Hanoi travel itinerary. It seemed like they run the class even with a small group, which is great for solo travelers or small parties.
