Walk-ins X, Course menu by reservation only
When we heard about my sibling's new job,
the whole family was thrilled.
They said they'd treat us to a celebratory meal (literally a "job-congrats treat"?),
so we searched high and low for the perfect restaurant and chose this one.
It was everyone's first time visiting Haebaragi at the time,
and I remember feeling so excited to go!💜
Japanese Restaurant in Dal-dong, Nam-gu
Haebaragi's Atmosphere
They have counter seating,
but I made a reservation and we used a private room.
Personally, at a Japanese restaurant,
I prefer counter seating because it's part of the experience to watch the chefs,
but since it would be difficult for a larger group,
we opted for a room.
There are quite a few 4-person tables in the main hall too,
and the ambiance was lovely with the dim lighting.
However, it was packed with people,
so unfortunately, I couldn't take many photos
of the exterior.
We had a reservation for 6 people.
Haebaragi had everything neatly set up for us in advance.
Apparently, sunflowers (Haebaragi) symbolize wealth and prosperity,
which is why you often see sunflower paintings or decorations
in homes and shops.
And here, the restaurant itself is named Haebaragi!
Wishing the owner much wealth!
Haebaragi Ulsan Menu & Course Prices
Haebaragi Course
Omakase
General sashimi, nabe/stew, tempura,
sushi, braised dishes, grilled dishes, stir-fries, and even meals/sides
— it's a diverse menu!
This post is from 'n' years ago,
so the menu prices have changed.
I've brought the current Naver menu board for you!
(Feeling powerful and confident!)
But here's a shocker:
even after 'n' years,
the Omakase price is still the same!
Of course, it was expensive back then,
but with rising inflation, ingredient costs, and operating expenses,
it must not have been easy to maintain the price.
Our family went with the Omakase course.
At Haebaragi, each person must order one alcoholic drink (or non-alcoholic beverage).
The menu is so diverse that
I just snapped photos of the drinks we ordered.
My dad and brother-in-law, who were driving, had sodas.
The rest of us ordered Suntory Highballs,
Tsuruume Yuzu Highballs, or Natsumikan Highballs.
(Drink prices vary.)
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of wooden spoons,
but still, the cutlery was neatly set.
The staff member who guided us through the course and served us
was professional and kind.
Cabbage, cucumber, carrots, radish, pickles, gungchae (crown daisy stems), and pickled ginger
were prepared as basic side dishes.

Haebaragi Omakase Review
Chawanmushi served in an adorable dish.
The texture was unbelievably silky smooth, seriously next level!
With shrimp, ginkgo nuts, and mushrooms inside,
steamed in katsuobushi broth,
the aroma was just divine.
Chawanmushi that simply melts in your mouth...
My mom enjoyed it so much that
the server thoughtfully
brought her another one!
(Seriously, that's incredible service! 🥰)
Truffle Ceviche
Ceviche with white fish and truffle sauce.
Mulchi (striped mullet), wasabi, and truffle sauce...
I could eat this right down to the lemon!
My whole family loves wasabi, and
we were really happy with the generous amount they served.
Seasonal Assorted Sashimi
Tuna, white fish, salmon, shrimp, seasonal ingredients, and more.
The sashimi selection changes with the seasons, but
on our visit, it included:
Bluefin tuna, sea bream, amberjack belly & back,
Flounder
Salmon
Mackerel
Scallop
Steamed abalone with ge-u sauce (abalone liver sauce)
This generous assortment was beautifully presented.
The steamed abalone with ge-u sauce was absolutely heavenly!
And that sea cucumber innards paste served beneath the sea bream...
it was absolutely out-of-this-world delicious! 🤯
I wanted to scoop it up by the bowlful...
I usually don't eat meat innards, but
why do I go absolutely crazy for seafood innards?
The fact that some photos are missing here
might be a little perplexing, but
it simply means we devoured them
without even a moment to take a picture! That's how delicious they were!
Grilled eel (unagi) also arrived,
served warm right after grilling.
It was incredibly tender, free of any fishy smell,
and delicious even without ginger.
Braised octopus? You might think that sounds pretty common,
but this one was served with red bean paste.
A truly fresh and unexpected combination!
And yet, they paired together so incredibly well!
Tender octopus + silky red bean paste.
It was a combination I never would have imagined,
but it was a total YES! 🤩
At first, we were like, 'What is this...?' and just tried a tiny bit,
but our eyes widened in surprise,
and then we, the 'octopus ghosts' who love octopus, piled on heaps of red bean paste!
Hairtail Hot Pot Rice (Galchi Sottbap)
Before mixing,
they presented it with a flourish, inviting us to take photos first! ✨
They paced the dishes perfectly with our dining speed,
bringing out each course at just the right moment.
I was really impressed with the timing!
(My parents often don't prefer course meals because
sometimes the portions are too tiny, or there's a long wait between dishes.)
Suimono, a clear clam soup.
The clean taste of the broth
was like getting sparkling water with your coffee —
it truly refreshed our palates.
Futomaki
No matter how big the futomaki is,
the real flavor comes from popping it all in your mouth at once and chomping down!
I consider myself an expert at fitting futomaki into my mouth.
And I devoured it heartily!
Shrimp tempura, tuna, salmon, egg, pickled radish, and burdock root.
Generous Cucumber & Wasabi Platter
Braised Pork
You might be thinking, "What's so special about braised pork...?"
But no, no, it's on a completely different level!
I topped it with the shredded green onions they served alongside...
Is extreme tenderness this place's superpower?
The chawanmushi was silky smooth, the abalone was tender,
even the octopus was incredibly soft...
and now, even the braised pork, was just unbelievably tender!
Shrimp Tempura
As someone who isn't usually a big fan of shrimp tempura,
I graciously passed it on to my family.
Uni
Oh, uni, uni, uni, uni, YESSS!
Honestly, I could devour an entire platter of uni, no problem... but here it was served as
uni + shrimp + cucumber.
Wrapped it in seaweed and devoured it with gusto,
and a refreshing highball to slurp down!
Hairtail Pot Rice
The pot rice, served with a savory Jang-guk soup.
My belly was full, but you always make room for rice, right? Haha!
(But alas, I couldn't finish it all because I was so full!)
The final dessert was
Sangha Farm Ice Cream.
And I absolutely demolished it!
My family usually eats quickly and dashes out, no matter where we go,
but with the delicious food,
the kind staff,
and the amazing atmosphere,
all three elements hit the mark perfectly at
Haebaragi, the Japanese course meal specialist restaurant in Dal-dong.
My youngest sibling, looking so cool while paying the bill...
A place filled with sunflower charm until the very moment you leave.
This was a treat from my younger sibling!
