See that bright, eye-catching orange building?
Thanks to the vibrant color, we easily spotted the place
even though it was our first time visiting.
Parking is conveniently located right behind the building! =3

I visited with my mom, aunt, and grandmother.
Since we were celebrating my grandma's birthday during this trip,
I wanted to treat her to a spectacular local breakfast
instead of cooking at our rental! haha.

When you first walk in, there is a slight, natural seaside aroma,
which is completely expected for a restaurant specializing in fresh local seafood.
Overall, the dining area was incredibly clean, neat, and well-maintained,
which immediately put us at ease.
Spicy Mussel Soup (Seobguk) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ~$10
Abalone Porridge (Jeonbokjuk) ⠀⠀⠀⠀~$10
Sea Urchin Seaweed Soup (Seongge-miyeokguk) ⠀ ~$8

As it turns out, Sokcho Gugujib is highly famous for its Mulhoe (spicy raw fish soup)!
However, having eaten so much raw fish during my childhood seaside trips,
I tend to lean toward warm, cooked dishes these days. 😅
So, I decided to skip the famous cold raw fish soup and try their warm specialties instead.
For those who love Mulhoe, they actually offer nationwide delivery in Korea!

The side dishes (banchan) arrived looking like a neat, home-cooked meal.
If you are looking for an early breakfast spot in Sokcho, this is highly recommended.

Sea Urchin Seaweed Soup (Seongge-miyeokguk) ⠀ ~$8
My grandmother absolutely loves sea urchin seaweed soup.
And honestly, the true hidden charm of Gugujib lies in their warm comfort food!
My grandmother thoroughly enjoyed this dish.
I'm usually not a huge fan of sea urchin soup, but this one changed my mind.
The refreshing taste of the ocean spreads through your mouth instantly—
with absolutely zero fishiness and a deep, savory richness
that develops the longer it simmers. Truly delicious!

Spicy Mussel Soup (Seobguk) ⠀ ~$10
Seobguk is a unique regional dish native to the Gangwon province,
specifically popular along the eastern Yeongdong coastal region.
Since I live further inland, this was a brand-new dish for me! haha.
It is packed with large, incredibly chewy wild mussels (seob)
which gave the soup a fantastic, satisfying texture.
The broth had a spicy yet subtly sweet kick, similar to a classic Korean fish stew (maeuntang).
I finished the entire bowl in no time! 👍

Abalone Porridge (Jeonbokjuk) ⠀ ~$10
Alongside the mussel soup, this abalone porridge completely stole my heart! 🤍
From the very first spoonful, the rich, nutty flavor
of the abalone offal coated my palate beautifully.
If you want a comforting, gentle meal to start your day
without overwhelming your stomach, this is the perfect choice.
While it didn't have massive chunks of abalone, there was plenty of finely chopped
abalone mixed in to give it a wonderful bite. 🤤
