Grandbell Hotel Tanukikoji Sapporo Review: Deluxe Room
Planning a trip to Sapporo? Read our honest review of Grandbell Hotel Tanukikoji's Deluxe Room, featuring a rooftop onsen and a prime sheltered location.

When planning a trip to Sapporo,
the biggest headache is always choosing the 'hotel location,' right?
Especially in Sapporo, where the snow can pile up to your knees,
there is nothing more exhausting than dragging a heavy suitcase
and wandering around icy streets... 😅
(Personally, I absolutely hate dragging suitcases
around for a long time! 🔥)
While preparing for this Sapporo trip, I also struggled
until the very end, debating between Dormy Inn Annex (famous for its amazing breakfast)
and another option.
Since I was traveling with my parents-in-law,
I had to be extra careful with my selection!
Ultimately, I chose a hotel with overwhelmingly pristine, brand-new rooms:
Sapporo Hotel Grandbell Tanukikoji!
Here is my honest review of our deeply relaxing stay
in their Deluxe Room!

✔️ To give you the bottom line first:
• Location: A 3-minute walk to Tanukikoji Shopping Street
👉 Perfect for avoiding the snow and rain
• Room: Brand-new and incredibly clean Deluxe Room
👉 Way more spacious and comfortable than Dormy Inn
• Facilities: 13th-floor rooftop public bath
👉 Washes away the fatigue of taking 10,000 steps a day—the outdoor bath is absolutely incredible!!!!
• Value: Even though it's brand new, it's about ~$10 cheaper than surrounding hotels
👉 Which means you can afford one more draft beer!
❄️ Quick tip for heavy snow days!!
👉 If you are a group of 4 or more, take an Uber!
It costs around 1,000 yen from the hotel to Sapporo Station.
If you apply the Uber Visa promotion,
you can get a 50% discount and travel comfortably for around 800 yen!

📍Grandbell Tanukikoji
📍 Sapporo Grandbell Hotel Tanukikoji
8-Chōme-10-1 Minami 3 Jōnishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 060-0063, Japan
• Strengths: Unrivaled brand-new facilities,
chic and modern room conditions
• Rooms: Modern and stylish interior design
(Giving off major brand-new hotel vibes)
• Public Bath: Open-air bath on the top 13th floor
(With that beautiful, open rooftop vibe)
Though I was heavily drawn to Dormy Inn because of the breakfast and late-night ramen,
since we weren't traveling alone and had
our parents with us, room condition was
my biggest priority!
I strongly believe that we must sleep in a spotless place!
And while almost all hotel rooms in Japan tend to be small,

if you choose a place that is even a tiny bit more spacious,
It was definitely much easier to open up our suitcases without feeling cramped!
(My husband is on the larger side, so we've had our share of trial and error traveling in Japan...😭)
So... that's why we chose the Deluxe Room at the brand-new Granbell...
And it turned out to be an absolute win! 😊
🛋️ The Freshness of a Brand-New Hotel!
Our Deluxe Room Stay
As soon as you step inside, you get that unmistakable "brand-new" feeling!
There's absolutely none of that typical old hotel smell,
and the interior design itself is super modern and chic.
We stayed on the 8th floor, but unfortunately, there wasn't much of a view ㅠ
• Room Type: Deluxe Room
• Space: Definitely wider than standard rooms,
so you can easily lay out two large suitcases!
• Bedding: Just like you'd expect from a brand-new hotel, the bedding was so fresh,
fluffy, and cozy that we knocked out the second we lay down. 💤

♨️ Pure Bliss: The 13th-Floor Rooftop Public Bath
In March and April, the streets of Sapporo are basically like a giant slushie,
so just walking around makes your legs feel like lead. 😂
In times like these, what you need is some soothing foot patches and a hot spring bath.
And this hotel has a large public bath on the absolute top floor (13th floor)!
Plus, it features an outdoor open-air bath!!!!
• Key Point: Since it's a new build, the bath facilities are spotlessly clean!
• Pro Tip: If you go later in the evening, it's less crowded and incredibly relaxing.
I usually find indoor public baths a bit stuffy, so I highly prefer outdoor baths.
Feeling the crisp, cold Sapporo air on your face
while soaking in steaming hot water... it was absolute heaven!
It makes you think, "Ah, this is exactly why I work hard to travel!"
It's just that good. 🛀
✅ How to Use the Public Bath at Sapporo Granbell Tanukikoji
Just grab your towel, throw on the gown provided in your room,
and head straight up to the 13th floor!
(Ladies, don't forget to grab your key card from the front desk!)
No toiletries needed ❌
Bring your own towel from the room ⭕️
Facial oil, cleansing foam, shampoo, conditioner,
and body wash are all fully provided!
The quality is actually way better than the in-room amenities!
It left my hair feeling so soft~~
(The in-room ones didn't lather well and felt a bit harsh ㅠㅠ)
If you're an early bird or a night owl,
since you'll be showering anyway,
I highly recommend going up to the 13th-floor bath
to enjoy a spacious shower and a relaxing hot spring soak! 👍
I got super lucky on our last night—
snow started heavily falling while I was in the outdoor bath! ❄️❄️❄️
It's the kind of magical experience that's hard to come by back home. ㅠㅠ
If you're visiting Sapporo in the winter, you absolutely must choose a place with an outdoor bath!
💡 Check Before You Book! A Great Value Susukino Hotel!
Accommodation prices in Sapporo during peak season can get crazy expensive.
I also spent a lot of time stressing over the hotel budget.
But after comparing several booking sites,
I found that even though this hotel is brand new, it was on average about ~$10 cheaper per night!

Over a 3-night stay, that saves you about ~$29,
and with that extra cash,
ordering another round of delicious Jingisukan (grilled mutton) in Susukino
is a much better deal!
You could even grab two more cold beers with that! 🍻
🔥 Quick Checklist!
✔️ You always prefer brand-new builds over older hotels?
✔️ You're looking for great value accommodation near Susukino?
✔️ You want to wash away your fatigue every night in a high-rise view bath?
✔️ You prefer a decently sized room with a proper window?
If you checked off two or more of these,
you should definitely add this place to your shortlist!
Giving up the famous Dormy Inn breakfast for the pristine comfort of a brand-new hotel,
turned out to be a massive success! Maybe it was just during my stay, but
the entire hotel was incredibly quiet!
And one more thing!!! ⭐️The water pressure is amazing⭐️
The water pressure is just as strong in the public bath, too!
It makes for a seriously refreshing shower!
You know that frustrating feeling when you're showering and the pressure is weak?
I'm sure you all know exactly what I mean~?

They say the night in Sapporo is even more vibrant than the day,
but thanks to our cozy room, I woke up feeling light and refreshed every single morning
during our wonderful 3-night stay.
If you value a good night's sleep while traveling,
I highly recommend making some wonderful memories here
where you get the absolute best of both location and comfort!
Have an amazing trip to Sapporo, everyone! 🩷
