For Grab, verifying your home country phone number is essential, so it's best to complete the entire registration process before you depart.
However, I found that registering the payment card locally had fewer errors.
So, I suggest creating your Grab account in your home country, and then adding your payment method once you're in Thailand.
Important Note on Card Registration
This was something that caught me off guard during my trip:
π³ While some international debit/travel cards (like certain 'Travel Wallet' cards) might appear to register successfully in the app, I sometimes encountered payment errors at the actual checkout stage.
