As the market was winding down for the day, some stalls were already closing or tidying up. However, we were still able to snag some delicious goodies from our top picks: Dan-gol Dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) and Kkosomi Jijimi. The upside of arriving later was fewer crowds, meaning shorter wait times – a definite win!

This parking facility is ideal, not only for visiting the shared cafe I mentioned previously but also for accessing the market's best food stalls, all within easy walking distance.
When we visited recently, parking was even free on weekends! It’s always a good idea to check for updated parking policies for 2026, but often weekend parking remains complimentary.
After picking up our delicious market treats, we even grabbed some Gongju chestnut makgeolli (rice wine) from the supermarket right across from the parking lot.
The market's compact layout makes it incredibly easy to navigate, allowing us to hit multiple spots without a long trek.
Our first stop was Dan-gol Dakgangjeong in Gongju.
Like many other shops as the market neared closing, it was relatively quiet with most customers having left. However, they were still busily frying up fresh batches of dakgangjeong, so we confidently placed our order!

Since we planned to try several dishes, a full portion seemed a bit much. So, we asked if a boneless half portion was available.
Luckily, they agreed! It seemed like they were able to accommodate our request because it wasn't a busy time.
Keep in mind that during peak hours, ordering a half portion might not be an option.
Our Take on Dan-gol Dakgangjeong
Dan-gol Dakgangjeong cools their freshly fried chicken before packaging it.
This thoughtful step meant that even after we brought it home, the dakgangjeong maintained its satisfyingly crispy texture.
The sauce wasn't overly sticky, and as we ate, a subtly savory and nutty flavor emerged, making it incredibly delicious!
If you're planning to grab a variety of foods, don't hesitate to ask about portion sizes, just like we did.
After securing our Dan-gol Dakgangjeong, we headed over to Kkosomi Jijimi.
Even though the market was starting to close down, this spot still had a steady stream of customers.
Among their various offerings, we chose the Yukjeonmari (beef pancake roll) and the Tongsaewu Jijimi (whole shrimp pancake)!
Yukjeonmari
Yukjeonmari is a unique dish featuring savory beef pancakes (yukjeon) rolled into kimbap (seaweed rice rolls), then coated in egg wash and pan-fried until golden.
While delicious on its own, dipping it into the accompanying sauce elevated the flavors even further.
Honestly, it didn't look particularly extraordinary at first glance.
But once we started eating, the rich, savory taste was so incredibly satisfying that we regretted only buying one roll!
This was personally my favorite item we picked up at Sanseong Market that day.
Tongsaewu Jijimi
As the name suggests, this dish features plump shrimp coated in a thin egg batter and pan-fried until perfectly golden.
It offered a different kind of savory goodness compared to the Yukjeonmari, making them a great pairing.
With the dakgangjeong, we had a delightful mix of fried chicken, beef pancake rolls, and shrimp pancakes – a variety of flavors and textures.
If you're looking to try a selection of foods from Sanseong Market, I highly recommend this combination!
While we waited for our order at Kkosomi Jijimi, we grabbed an Ice Cream Honey Chestnut Hotteok (a sweet pancake) from Sanseong Coffee right next door.
It wasn't anything groundbreaking, flavor-wise, but it was a perfectly pleasant treat to enjoy while wandering the market.
However, considering the price, I'd probably opt for a regular hotteok next time!
Beyond these, we noticed other famous treats like Buja Tteokjip (rice cake house) and Gongju Chestnut Bread, but we didn't get a chance to try them that day.
Definitely on the list for our next visit!
After gathering all the delicious foods we wanted from Sanseong Market, we also bought a bottle of Gongju chestnut makgeolli from the supermarket across from the parking lot.
We felt it was only right to pair our market treats with local makgeolli since we were in Gongju!
Once we laid everything out at home, it was quite a feast!
The crispy and sweet Dan-gol Dakgangjeong, the savory Yukjeonmari, and the delightful Tongsaewu Jijimi – each dish offered a unique flavor and texture, making it a truly satisfying spread. We were so glad we decided to get a variety.

Yes, according to the article, it was possible to order a half boneless portion. However, this might have been possible because it was a less busy time, so ordering might be difficult during peak hours.
