Nataeju Literature Museum Gongju: AI Poetry Experience 2026
Discover Gongju's hidden gem, the Nataeju Grassland Literature Museum! Dive into poet Nataeju's world, explore engaging exhibits, and chat with an AI poet.
During a recent August holiday, my husband and I took a trip to Gongju.
After exploring Sinwonsa Temple in the morning, we headed into Gongju city center. Our first stop there was the Nataeju Grassland Literature Museum.

The Nataeju Grassland Literature Museum had been on my 'must-visit' list for a while, a place I'd saved on my map.
It offers a distinctly different vibe from more famous attractions like Gongsanseong Fortress or King Muryeong's Tomb, making it an excellent choice if you're looking for a unique cultural experience in Gongju.
Even though I'm not typically a big poetry reader, I found the exhibitions engaging, enjoyed flipping through the poetry collections, and especially loved the interactive AI experience where you can converse with AI Poet Nataeju. It was much more accessible and fun than I expected.
Nataeju Grassland Literature Museum Parking: Conveniently Located Right Out Front

The Nataeju Grassland Literature Museum is incredibly convenient to visit by car, as there's a public parking lot directly in front of the museum.
We had explored the outskirts of Gongju first before driving into the city center, and we were able to park and immediately access the museum. Sometimes, navigating Gongju can be tricky due to parking and movement, but this spot made our city itinerary much smoother.
The Poet's House Adorned with Trumpet Vines

We started our visit by exploring the Poet's House.
This building originally served as the literature museum, but with the construction of the new Nataeju Grassland Literature Museum hall, it's now primarily for exterior viewing.

In mid-August, the trumpet vines were in full bloom, beautifully complementing the historic building.
While it wasn't a major attraction in itself, walking through the lush garden from the parking lot to the new hall was a pleasant experience.
Discovering Poet Nataeju's Journey in the New Hall

The main exhibition is housed in the new Nataeju Grassland Literature Museum hall.

Here, you'll find an exhibition introducing the life and works of Poet Nataeju, making it easy for even those unfamiliar with his poetry to follow his journey.

One section also features a display of artworks.

We also got to see a harmonium that Poet Nataeju actually used. It was quite fascinating to see an object I'd only read about in books up close.

Beyond his works, seeing the personal items used by Poet Nataeju added another layer of interest to exploring the Nataeju Grassland Literature Museum.
Reading Poetry Collections and Trying a Word Puzzle

The second floor offers interactive spaces.
I tried a word puzzle game based on Poet Nataeju's poems. It was a bit simple for adults, but it's a fun, light activity, especially great for kids.

There's also a dedicated area where you can read poetry collections, so I picked one and read a few poems. While I can't recall the specific poems now, I remember finding the content quite moving and enjoyable.

There were also stamp and questionnaire activities, but on the day I visited, there were quite a few people participating, so I just observed briefly.
The Most Memorable: The AI Grassland Mailbox

The most enjoyable part of my visit was definitely the AI Grassland Mailbox, where you can converse with AI Poet Nataeju.
You write a message, and the AI responds based on Poet Nataeju's unique tone and literary style.

My husband and I casually left our messages, and the replies we received were surprisingly thoughtful and engaging, making us laugh and ponder.
Even knowing it was an AI, reading the sentences felt like the poet himself was speaking to us. It was refreshing to have an interactive experience rather than just passively viewing exhibits.
Accessible to Everyone, Especially if You Know 'Grassland'
Among Poet Nataeju's works, the most familiar poem is undoubtedly 'Grassland' (풀꽃).
The line, "You have to look closely to see how beautiful it is", is one that most people have encountered at some point, even if they don't frequently read poetry.

Similarly, even though I'm not a frequent poetry reader, seeing the story of the person who wrote such a familiar poem, along with his personal items and poetry collections, made the visit surprisingly enjoyable.

I also appreciated that there's no separate admission fee, making it a great, casual stop when exploring Gongju city.
While it's not a place with flashy attractions or many active experiences, it offers a tranquil environment to explore exhibits and engage with books and poetry.
It provides a different atmosphere compared to Gongju's prominent historical sites like Gongsanseong Fortress or King Muryeong's Tomb, so if you're looking for a unique cultural experience in Gongju, it's definitely worth including in your itinerary.
