Even after devouring delicious Gongju chestnut bread from Gongsanseong Market’s main branch
and walking diligently, my stomach felt incredibly full!
Sleeping right after such a feast felt like a recipe for instant weight gain, so to help digest
and enjoy a light evening stroll, we headed to Geumgangsingwan Park and
Mirseom Island, both located in Singwan-dong.
Conveniently, our budget-friendly accommodation, Hotel Fashion in Singwan-dong,
was just about a 10-minute walk away, making it super easy to head out for a spontaneous stroll.

A Barren Field by Day? Mirseom Island's True Charm Shines at Night
Honestly, when we drove past during the day, it looked quite barren and exposed,
with hardly any shade. Walking there in the morning or midday seemed like a surefire way
to break into a serious sweat under the strong sun.
But arriving at night? It was a completely different world!
As we entered the park, a beautiful full moon hung brightly in the sky,
adding an incredibly romantic touch to the atmosphere.
With the cool evening breeze, we saw plenty of locals out and about—
runners, power walkers, all enjoying the refreshing air.
It felt less like a typical tourist spot and more like we were blending into the vibrant
daily life of Gongju, truly soaking in that authentic local vibe.
Just so you know, Geumgangsingwan Park and Mirseom Island aren't separate places far apart.
As you follow the park's walking path, a small bridge directly connects you to Mirseom Island,
making them essentially one continuous experience!
Crossing the bridge, the cool river breeze was absolutely perfect for helping us digest our meal as we walked.
The Highlight of Our Stroll: Gongsanseong Fortress's Golden Night View & Geumganggyo Bridge
Once we crossed the bridge and ventured further into Mirseom Island,
the highlight of our walk unfolded before our eyes: the magnificent, golden-lit night view of Gongsanseong Fortress,
a UNESCO World Heritage site, stretching majestically across the river. It was truly a spectacular sight.
Adding to the magic, the sparkling lights of Geumganggyo Bridge reflected beautifully on the river.
It was such a stunning night view that the barren daytime appearance we'd seen earlier completely vanished from our minds.
Our photos and videos simply couldn't capture the true beauty of the scene – it was even more breathtaking in person!

Gongju Mirseom Island: Shasta Daisy Bloom Season & Visiting Tips
It was only after our walk that we learned Mirseom Island is actually a hugely popular hotspot
from mid-May to early June (in 2026), famous for its pristine white Shasta daisies that resemble fried eggs!
We had visited in early May, so unfortunately,
the flowers were sparse and barely in bloom.
That's why it looked a bit barren during the day.
However, perhaps thanks to the lack of flowers, we enjoyed an unobstructed, expansive view,
taking in the full moon and Gongsanseong's nightscape without any visual clutter.
The cool night breeze also perfectly helped us walk off our heavy meal, so we were quite satisfied nonetheless.
To summarize!
If you're aiming for those iconic flower-filled photos during the peak Shasta daisy bloom season, a daytime visit is highly recommended.
But if, like us, you prefer to leisurely stroll and soak in a spectacular night view, an evening visit is the way to go!
For anyone staying overnight in Gongju, definitely consider taking this walk after dinner to aid digestion and enjoy the scenery!
