Following my review of Gonggol Restaurant, a must-try spot in Gongju, I'm excited to share my experience at Cafe Bam, located right across the street. It's an essential stop on any Gongju itinerary!

When you think of Gongju, what's the first thing that comes to mind? For many, it's chestnuts, and for good reason!

Cafe Bam consistently pops up in every search for 'Gongju travel,' making it a true must-visit destination. I arrived brimming with anticipation.

Both establishments open at 11:00 AM, and I know many of you, like me, might wonder which one to 'open run' first. My advice? **Head to Gomgol Restaurant first for an earlier start!**

After a satisfying meal at Gomgol, I arrived at Cafe Bam at exactly 12:02 PM.

As expected for a popular Gongju hotspot, the cafe was already bustling with customers.

I quickly registered at the waiting machine outside the cafe and was relieved to see I was only #2 in line! I thought I was off to a great start...

Interior & Atmosphere

The first floor features one small table, a larger communal table, and an inviting outdoor terrace area.

I skipped up the stairs to explore the second floor.

It seems Cafe Bam recently reopened after a renovation, taking over the space of a previously famous cafe called Mangjunghan!

The serene Hanok-style view from the second-floor window was absolutely captivating. It was a space that truly exuded the charm of Gongju's historic downtown.

Just a heads-up: I only managed to snap these photos after most of the customers had left. While I was waiting for my turn, the cafe was incredibly packed.

Everyone seemed to be comfortably settled, enjoying their time, which made me anxious wondering when a table would open up. When I saw other customers behind me opting for takeout, my resolve wavered.

In the end, I couldn't wait just five more minutes and asked the staff to change my order to takeout.

But guess what happened next?

Immediately after I switched to takeout, as if on cue, customers on the second floor started leaving in droves! There was no way I could change my mind again and ask to dine in.

If I had just waited five more minutes, I could have enjoyed the beautiful Hanok view from a comfortable seat. It was such a regrettable and missed opportunity!

Looking at the menu, it was clear that Gongju chestnuts were the star ingredient, featured prominently in many desserts and beverages.

The little chestnut burr and chestnuts displayed at the counter were absolutely adorable! If only I had waited those extra five minutes, I could have taken such pretty photos enjoying them inside the cafe.

Honest Review of My Order

Chestnut Ice Cream (Noir) ~$4

As a homemade ice cream made with Gongju chestnuts, it delivered a rich, intense chestnut flavor with every spoonful. While chestnut ice cream is inherently delicious, I did find the portion size a bit small for the price of ~$4.

Bam Float Latte ~$5

This small latte is topped with a scoop of chestnut ice cream! The staff kindly explained the best way to enjoy it: first, savor the ice cream and coffee together with a spoon, then, when about half is left, stir it all together and drink.

When I first tried the ice cream on its own, I actually thought the Bam Float Latte was far more delicious than the plain chestnut ice cream. My first spoonful was incredibly sweet and nutty, making me exclaim with delight.

However, after following the instructions and mixing the remaining half, I found the coffee's flavor profile a bit underwhelming for my taste.

It was an unusually hot day, so I decided to finish my drinks standing outside the cafe before moving on. While there, I noticed numerous delivery boxes from 'Namu Saroi Coffee,' a famous roaster in Seoul, arriving inside the shop. I'd enjoyed Namu Saroi coffee before, so perhaps my expectations for the Bam Float Latte were too high, as it didn't quite meet them.

There were three staff members working, and I found their service to be consistently polite and efficient. Given the sheer volume of customers at this Gongju hotspot, it's understandable that they looked a bit weary. Nevertheless, they handled everything with quiet professionalism and kindness, which I appreciated.

Overall Thoughts & Waiting Tips

Cafe Bam in Banjuk-dong is definitely a must-visit on your Gongju adventure!

It's perfectly situated to be your second stop after a meal at Gomgol Restaurant – the ideal itinerary!

I took these photos around 12:20 PM, and as you can see, both Cafe Bam and Gomgol Restaurant were dealing with some serious parking challenges. If your waiting number at Cafe Bam is low (say, 2 or 3), don't rush into takeout like I did. **Just wait five more minutes to secure a lovely spot on the second floor and enjoy that beautiful view!**
