Bakery Bammauel Weekend Waiting Line
Bam Pie, Cheese Tart, Eclair Discount Hacks & Review
After a successful open run at Buja Tteokjip, a must-visit on any Gongju trip,
we moved on to our next destination: Bakery Bammauel,
Gongju's quintessential bakery.
Bakery Bammauel Essential Information
Address - 5-9 Baekmigoeul-gil, Gongju-si, Chungcheongnam-do
Hours - 09:00~21:00
Phone - 0507-1428-3489

It's prominently located right across from Gongsanseong Fortress,
making it easy for first-time visitors to spot!
When we visited in the morning, the store was relatively
quiet, creating an atmosphere where you could buy things right away.
However, I figured carrying bread while climbing Gongsanseong Fortress
would be a hassle, so I decided to go for a stroll first and then revisit.
But, I had no idea at the time that this decision
would lead to a 40-minute wait on a weekend!
The Reality of Weekend Waiting at Bakery Bammauel

After our walk at Gongsanseong Fortress, and a successful "open run" for
Pitang Kimtang, another famous Gongju specialty, we enjoyed a delightful meal.
But when we returned to Bakery Bammauel around 12:23 PM,
the scene was completely different from the morning.
I didn't even know there was a back entrance, but there was
a long, long queue snaking behind the store ㅠㅠ
Weekend Wait Start Time - 12:23 PM
Checkout Complete Time - 01:03 PM
Total Time - 40 minutes
If you only think about the morning's quiet atmosphere and let your guard down,
you'll end up with a minimum 30-40 minute (or even longer) wait
after weekend lunch ㅠㅠ
Encountering TV Personality Daniel Lindemann

My husband, tired from our walk and a post-meal blood sugar spike,
rested briefly in a nearby parking lot while I went alone to join the queue
at the back of the store. And while waiting my turn, something amazing happened!! Lol.
I spotted none other than TV personality Daniel Lindemann
standing in line with his wife! Lol.
Although he was wearing a mask, his distinctive gentle aura made him
instantly recognizable. I was happily surprised just to myself,
but then a man stepped forward to ask for a photo, and I was so impressed
by Daniel's graciousness in readily agreeing.
Two Essential Tips for Bakery Bammauel Discounts

If you get the Onnuri Gongju Citizen Card issued beforehand
and present it at checkout, you can receive a 5% discount
on all items.
It's an essential tip for saving smartly on your travel expenses, seriously! Lol.

I learned something on the spot: Daniel Lindemann's wife was pregnant,
so they were able to get priority entry thanks to the Pregnant Visitor Fast Pass benefit.
If you bring your pregnancy registration card or maternal handbook,
you can make purchases quickly even during peak weekend hours.
Inside the Store

The store has two floors. If you plan to dine in,
I recommend the second floor over the first, as it offers a beautiful panoramic view of Gongsanseong Fortress.
The first floor was quite chaotic with customers and the waiting line for bread,
and it looked a bit uncomfortable for those trying to eat there.

They also sell chestnut makgeolli, but drinking inside the store is prohibited!

Bakery Bam-maeul's Signature Menu & Prices

For other items like Yanggaeng (sweet red bean jelly), chocolates, macarons, and gelato,
please refer to the menu!

When I visited in the morning, I took photos of the Yanggaeng, Madeleines, and Coco Bam in advance.
It seems Coco Bam is quite popular because when I went back in the afternoon, there weren't many left.
I was definitely glad I snapped those photos in the morning, haha!

Originally, I only planned to buy the chestnut pies.
But after all that waiting, I felt like I had to splurge, so I decided to add the chestnut cream eclair and the Bam-maeul cheese tart to my purchase!

For the eclairs, they fill them with chestnut cream right when you order, on the spot!
This dessert even appeared on 'Amazing Saturday,' so I was even more curious to try it.
As for the cheese tarts, if you buy a whole box, you get a discount of ~$0 per piece, making it a great value!

I noticed many customers dining in also purchased the Chestnut Pandoro and Queen of Chestnuts~

The signature menu item of Bakery Bam-maeul, and Gongju's famous chestnut pie!
The chestnut pies are sold individually, and also in boxes of 6 or 10, with the 10-pack being the most economical.
If I hadn't bought the cheese tarts, I probably would have gotten the 10-pack, but I decided not to be too greedy and bought the 6-pack instead.
It was so fascinating to watch the staff meticulously pack the chestnut pies into boxes by hand, just like masters of their craft, haha!

With the hot weather, the homemade gelato was also incredibly popular!

After a 40-minute wait, my purchase was successfully completed! Haha!
When I stepped out, the line had gotten even longer than before, so I felt like I had done pretty well to get my goodies when I did!
Honest Review of 3 Signature Menu Items - Eclair, Chestnut Pie, Cheese Tart
Chestnut Cream Eclair

The chestnut cream eclair, tasted right in my husband's car as soon as we got in!
While the chestnut cream filling itself was delicious, the outer choux pastry was a little soggy, which was a bit disappointing.
I think it would be much more delicious if lightly frozen in the freezer and eaten cold; it would solve the sogginess, and the cream would be wonderfully smooth, like ice cream.

As soon as I got home, I had to snap a group shot of all the boxes!
Since some time had passed, I froze them and tried them later.
Bamgol Pie

I tried warming it up a bit in the air fryer, and the outside was
crispy, while the inside was full of soft chestnut paste and whole chestnuts,
creating a delightful savory yet mild flavor.
I expected the filling to be quite sweet, but it wasn't overly so,
making it perfect as a gift for adults.
The generous size meant it paired wonderfully with coffee or tea for a home café
dessert, and it even worked great as a light meal replacement.
Truly a signature menu item!
Bamgol Cheese Tart

I stored it in the freezer and enjoyed it after natural thawing,
and the creamy texture was fantastic! My husband even said he preferred this cheese tart
over the Bamgol Pie.
I tried both interchangeably,
and the taste really varied depending on the thawing state.
Sometimes the crispy, savory, and mild Bamgol Pie hit the spot,
and other times the smooth cheese tart was more delicious,
making it incredibly hard to pick a favorite!
Overall Review and Conclusion

For a while, our home café was truly thriving,
thanks to Gongju's famous Buja Tteokjip's Albam-Mochi and the delightful desserts from Bakery Bamgol.
Located right across from Gongsanseong Fortress, its accessibility is fantastic,
and getting an extra 5% discount with the Onnuri Gongju Citizen's Card
made my visit even more satisfying.
If you're planning a trip to Gongju,
I highly recommend adding Bakery Bamgol to your itinerary!
