Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival 2026: Night Views, Mirseom & Gongsanseong
Experience the vibrant Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival 2026! From traditional wrestling to stunning night views, our 3-hour itinerary covers parking, Mirseom, and Gongsanseong.

During a recent autumn weekend, my husband and I embarked on a delightful trip to the Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival. We arrived at Geumgang Shingwan Park around 4 PM, leisurely exploring Mirseom Island and Gongsanseong Fortress before heading out around 7 PM.

This time, our focus was primarily on Geumgang Shingwan Park, Mirseom, and Gongsanseong. We were genuinely surprised by the sheer scale of the festival grounds and the abundance of attractions scattered throughout.
While we could have extended our exploration to Jemincheon Stream and the old city center, we opted to conclude our visit at Gongsanseong Fortress. It's always good to save something for next time, right?

Having experienced many festivals, I must say the Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival exceeded my expectations with its vast array of participation booths and hands-on activity zones.
The food stalls and local specialty sections were also well-organized by zone, making it feel like a truly immersive festival experience after a long while.
Parking for Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival: Utilize Gongju National University
Before heading to the Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival, my biggest concern was parking.
Initially, I planned to park at the Geumgang Shingwan Park parking lot, but the line of cars trying to enter from the main road was incredibly long. So, we quickly changed course and headed to Gongju National University's parking lot.
We arrived around 4 PM, and it felt about 60-70% full. During the Baekje Cultural Festival, especially on weekends and public holidays, you can use the Gongju National University parking lot for free, which is a huge bonus!
From Gongju National University to Geumgang Shingwan Park, it was a comfortable walk, taking approximately 10 minutes. The festival grounds were immediately visible, making it easy to find our way. This distance made me realize there's no need to insist on parking directly in front of the main event area.
Baekje Jangsa Ssireum and Gomatnaru Market

The first thing we saw upon arriving at the festival was a Baekje Jangsa Ssireum (Korean traditional wrestling) match. The competition was already in full swing, so we couldn't get too close, but each bout progressed surprisingly quickly, making it quite entertaining to watch.

At the Gomatnaru Market, fitting for Gongju, there were many booths selling products made from chestnuts, a local specialty.

We sampled some delicious items and ended up buying a jar of Marron de Gongju Chestnut Jam.

Back home, I tried it with Greek yogurt, and the moderately sweet chestnut flavor was absolutely perfect for my taste buds.
Mirseom Island: Entrance Fee & Flower Fields
From Geumgang Shingwan Park, we crossed a bridge to reach Mirseom Island.

Mirseom has separate entry and exit points, and there's an admission fee.
The regular fee is ~$5 per person, but we received a local resident discount, paying ~$4 each.

Each admission ticket also includes a ~$2 coupon. This coupon can be used at various festival booths within Geumgang Shingwan Park!

We used our coupons to purchase drinks at one of the concession stands!

Mirseom Island was abloom with vibrant sunflowers and cosmos flowers.

While there were many people, it wasn't overly crowded, making it pleasant to wander through the flower fields and take photos.

At the Baekje Village Goma-chon booth, you could purchase souvenirs, and there were plenty of programs for children, including various craft activities and Baekje traditional costume experiences.

We even spotted a group doing Pilates together under the theme of 'Baekje's Lines,' which looked quite fun!

However, the tent zone set up for relaxation was a bit disappointing. Many tents were occupied by belongings, even without people present, making it difficult for those who genuinely wanted to rest to find a spot.
Crossing the Pontoon Bridge to Gongsanseong Fortress

During the festival period, you can cross a special pontoon bridge from Mirseom to Gongsanseong Fortress.

When I had visited Gongsanseong before, the large area inside the fortress walls was like an open field. But during the Baekje Cultural Festival, it was transformed with various booths and performance stages, creating a completely different atmosphere.

At the Candlelight Gongju Onbam event area, camping chairs and bean bags were provided, offering a nice spot to rest. There were also traditional games like Tuho (arrow throwing) and Gukgung (Korean archery) to try.
Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival Review: Don't Miss the Night Views!

The most memorable part of our visit to the Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival was undoubtedly the scenery after sunset.

The views of the Geumgang River and Gongsanseong Fortress were already stunning around dusk, but once it got completely dark and the Mirseom installations and lanterns lit up, the atmosphere transformed entirely.

While the lighting was a bit too colorful for my personal taste, the night scenery was definitely more impressive than during the day.

Our visit this time was spontaneous, so we only arrived around 4 PM.
If I were to visit again, I'd plan to arrive a bit earlier to explore Jemincheon Stream and the old city center during the day. Then, I'd make my way to Gongsanseong Fortress and Geumgang Shingwan Park, finishing the day with the incredible night views of Mirseom.

The Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival proved to be much larger and offered more sights than I had anticipated.
If you plan to explore it thoroughly in one day, I highly recommend allocating ample time and, if possible, staying until nightfall to witness the stunning evening illuminations!
