A Refined and Elegant Ambiance

The moment I stepped inside, I was struck by how much cleaner and more elegant the restaurant felt than I expected.
Rather than the casual, rustic vibe of a typical eel restaurant, Geumsujeong offered a calm and sophisticated atmosphere, making it a great choice for a date night or an anniversary celebration!
It also seemed perfectly suited for those looking for a place to dine with their parents or host a family gathering.

Geumsujeong boasts spacious dining areas not just on the first floor, but also on the second floor.

The second floor also features private rooms, perfect for a more intimate dining experience.
There are also large tables suitable for groups, so keep this in mind if you're looking for a family dinner spot or a venue for your next gathering!
Our Order

On this particular visit, we ordered both the Truffle Freshwater Eel and the Ganghwado Tidal Flat Eel.
While I'm a big fan of eel, this was my first time trying and comparing two different types side-by-side, so I was really excited to discover the differences! 😎
First Up: The Truffle Freshwater Eel

This dish features rich truffle oil and delicate truffle slices served alongside the eel.
Just as the eel reached perfect doneness, the staff added the truffle slices and truffle oil, instantly releasing that distinct, intoxicating truffle aroma!!

The eel itself was wonderfully plump and tender. When combined with the deep, aromatic flavor of the truffle, it created a completely different experience from any grilled eel I'd had before.

The savory, tender eel, elevated by the truffle's fragrance, offered an even richer depth of flavor. 🥰
I felt this dish would be perfect for those days when you're looking for a meal that's a bit more extraordinary!
Truffle Freshwater Eel VS. Ganghwado Tidal Flat Eel

Menu | Characteristics |
Truffle Freshwater Eel | Soft, savory, plus rich truffle aroma |
Ganghwado Tidal Flat Eel | Chewy, clean flavor, plus inherent eel taste |
First, the Truffle Freshwater Eel offered a soft, moist texture with the characteristic savory richness of eel.
The addition of truffle oil and truffle slices truly brought out a fragrant and deep flavor profile.
On the other hand, the Ganghwado Tidal Flat Eel had a distinctly different texture!!
They say this eel is naturally purged for over 75 days in the tidal flat fisheries off Ganghwado Island, and you could definitely taste the difference – it was wonderfully chewy and had a clean, robust flavor.
Elegant Side Dishes Perfectly Paired with Eel

A delightful array of side dishes, including perilla leaf kimchi, green onion kimchi, shredded ginger, chive salad, and white kimchi, arrived – all perfectly complementing the eel.
While eel is delicious, it can sometimes feel a bit rich after a few bites. Having such a variety of side dishes meant we could switch things up and enjoy every piece without getting tired of the flavor.

The owner even recommended a fantastic way to enjoy it:
Perilla leaf kimchi + eel + green onion kimchi + shredded ginger – this combination was surprisingly perfect!
The fragrant perilla, the spicy kick of the green onion kimchi, and the zing of ginger all combined to make the eel's rich flavor incredibly clean and refreshing!

And if you add a touch of Geumsujeong's signature seasoned green onion salad, the tangy flavor creates yet another delicious combination.
Even with just one type of eel, being able to enjoy it in so many different ways made the meal surprisingly fun and engaging.
If You're Looking for Premium Eel in Dongtan

We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of comparing the Truffle Freshwater Eel and Ganghwado Tidal Flat Eel, and having it grilled right at our table made for a truly comfortable dining experience.

The Truffle Freshwater Eel features a soft and moist texture, enhanced with truffle oil and truffle slices, offering a rich and aromatic flavor. In contrast, the Ganghwado Tidal Flat Eel has a chewy and clean texture, as it is naturally acclimatized for over 75 days in the tidal flat fishing grounds off Ganghwado Island.
This restaurant boasts a clean and sophisticated ambiance, making it suitable for dates, anniversary meals, dining with parents, or family gatherings. The second floor offers private room-style spaces, perfect for intimate dining or group events.
The owner recommends combining perilla leaf pickle (kkaennip jangajji), eel, green onion kimchi (pa kimchi), and shredded ginger. This combination allows you to savor the savory taste of the eel cleanly, with the added fragrance of perilla leaves, the pungent kick of green onion kimchi, and the aroma of ginger.
The Truffle Freshwater Eel is served with truffle slices and truffle oil added at the very last moment, once the eel is cooked to a certain extent. This infusion imparts the unique rich and aromatic truffle flavor to the eel, offering a special culinary experience.
