Live Review: 2026 Geumsan Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup) Festival!
Your Ultimate Guide: Soup Prices, Parking, Water Play, and Performances
Words & Photos by Nolyum
If I could recommend just one summer festival in Chungnam this July,
it would absolutely be the Geumsan Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup) Festival.
Living in Cheonan, Chungnam,
it's an easy 1 to 1.5-hour drive down to Geumsan,
making it the perfect effortless getaway.

Since it's the ideal distance for a weekend day trip,
I headed out there myself today—Saturday lunch on July 11, 2026!
I often explore different corners of Chungnam, like Gongju, Buyeo, and Geumsan,
but this time, the Geumsan Samgyetang Festival
completely blew me away with its massive scale!

This isn't just an event where you grab a quick bowl of chicken soup and leave.
It's a full-on summer festival packed with diverse food,
water-play zones, hands-on activities, and live performances.
I arrived around 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 11,
and by 11:30 AM, the Samgyetang Food Zone
was already packed with long lines of eager diners.

Families with kids were flocking to the water playground and activity zones,
creating such a lively, bustling vibe!
It was awesome to see so many international travelers here too—such a proud local moment!
The venue is incredibly spacious,
and just wandering around for half a day made the time fly by.

It's about a 2-hour drive from Seoul and just 40 minutes from Daejeon,
so it's extremely accessible
and perfect for a weekend road trip!

In this post, I'll share my fresh-off-the-press experience
at the 2026 Geumsan Samgyetang Festival, covering everything from
the delicious chicken soups, activity programs, performance schedules,
to insider tips for your visit.
If you're looking for the best places to visit in Chungnam this July,
be sure to read all the way to the end!

1. The 6th Geumsan Samgyetang Festival
Quick Facts

When July rolls around and the heat kicks in,
we all crave a wellness boost while making the most of the summer, right?
The Geumsan Samgyetang Festival is the country's very first
summer festival themed entirely around Samgyetang (Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup).
Highlighting Geumsan's world-famous specialty,
you can savor various chicken soups made with premium ginseng and medicinal herbs.
With splash pools, interactive programs, and live shows,
it's a massive hit for family outings.

Based on my experience, if you're just looking around for food, 1 to 2 hours is plenty,
but if you're planning to fully enjoy the water play and performances,
I highly recommend setting aside at least half a day.

Especially during weekend lunchtime,
the lines at the samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) food stalls can get quite long.
So, if you visit before 11:00 AM or after 2:00 PM,
you'll be able to explore much more comfortably!
💡 Important tips before you visit! During the festival period, if you purchase fresh ginseng or ginseng products at the Geumsan Ginseng & Herb Market, you can get 10% of your purchase amount back in Geumsan Love Gift Certificates. You can receive up to ~$13 per person per day. These can be collected at the designated booths located at the Main Gate of the Fresh Ginseng Center and the Main Gate of the Ginseng Hotel. |
2. Is parking convenient?
Here is my firsthand guide to parking

I visited on a Saturday around 11:00 AM,
and there were quite a lot of cars,
so the area around the festival grounds was a bit hectic.
But when I was heading out around 1:00 PM after having a blast,
the line of cars waiting to get in was incredibly long!
I was so glad I arrived before 11:00 AM.

Thankfully, there were parking guides
directing traffic in various spots,
so you should be able to park without too much hassle.

The festival is held at the Geumsan World Ginseng Expo Plaza.
For navigation, you can search for 'Geumsan World Ginseng Expo Plaza' (금산세계인삼엑스포광장)
or enter the address '30, Insamgwangjang-ro, Geumsan-eup, Geumsan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do'
to find your way.
The parking lot is super close to the festival grounds,
so it only takes about a 2 to 3-minute walk
to step right into the heart of the action.

3. The star of the show: Samgyetang!
Food Zone Review

If you're visiting the Geumsan Samgyetang Festival,
the absolute first place you must visit is, of course,
the Samgyetang Food Zone.

Since I drove all the way to Geumsan in the morning, I was pretty hungry,
so I headed straight there the moment I entered.
Even though there were two separate entrances, both had
long lines. It was incredibly popular!
I instantly understood why this is Geumsan's signature summer festival.

What I loved most was that they didn't just sell one standard version;
you can choose based on your preference!
This year, a total of 6 local restaurants participated,
each showcasing their unique signature samgyetang.
Geumsan Neungi (Oak Mushroom) Samgyetang Geumsan Hwangchil (Dendropanax) Samgyetang Geumsan Abalone Samgyetang Geumsan Ginseng & Mung Bean Samgyetang Geumsan Ginseng & Wild Herb Samgyetang Geumsan Nurungji (Scorched Rice) Samgyetang |
The price was the same for every menu item at ~$10,
so I could choose whatever I wanted without worrying about my budget.

Besides samgyetang, there was also
a wide variety of side dishes ready to be enjoyed.
Since each stall had a different side menu lineup,
I highly recommend taking a quick stroll around to check out the menus
and choosing whichever spot catches your eye!
Ginseng Acorn Jelly Salad ~$6 Neungi Mushroom & Fresh Ginseng Sour Salad ~$8 Spicy Stir-fried Pork with Shredded Fresh Ginseng ~$9 Spicy Boneless Chicken Feet with Fresh Ginseng ~$8 Crispy Seafood & Leek Fritters with Fresh Ginseng ~$6 Jokbal (Braised Pig's Trotters) ~$8 Tteokgalbi (Grilled Short Rib Patties) Set ~$6 - ~$6 Ginseng Pork Cutlet ~$6 Ginseng Acorn Jelly Soup ~$6 Vegetable Pancake ~$6 Soju / Beer / Ginseng Makgeolli ~$3 Soft Drinks ~$1 |

Our food came out much faster than we expected,
and thanks to the quick table turnover, the wait was barely noticeable.
(It took about 15 minutes around 11:30 AM on a Saturday!)
Unlike your standard chicken soup,
this one features a rich, deep broth infused with Geumsan ginseng and medicinal herbs!
It truly felt like the ultimate nourishing treat for the body.
It's the perfect summer wellness food to beat the heat!
Chicken soup isn't the only thing on the menu!

Aside from Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), the food zone is massive,
making it easy to grab everything from full meals to light snacks in one spot.
✔️ "Samsam" Chicken Food Corner ✔️ Ginseng Health Food Corner ✔️ Ginseng Young Radish Kimchi Noodles, Ginseng Beef Pancakes, Ginseng Palace Noodles ✔️ Snacks like Sweet & Spicy Crispy Chicken, Chicken Skewers, and Chicken Tacos |

For families traveling with kids,
popular snacks like chicken, cold udon noodles, gimbap, and tteokbokki
seemed like fantastic, kid-friendly options.
Plus, with so many ginseng-infused dishes to try,
it's also the perfect destination to bring your parents!
4. Hands-on Activities & Live Music Performances

The Geumsan Samgyetang Festival
is so much more than just a chicken soup feast!
Beyond the delicious food,
the lineup is absolutely packed with things to do all day long—
from water activities and health experiences
to lively evening concerts!
It's especially perfect for families with kids,
who were having a blast in the hands-on activity zones and water play areas.
The Kids' absolute favorite: 'Geumsan Summer Sam-cance'
✔ Hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
✔ Session 1: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM / Session 2: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM

To beat the summer heat, a section of the festival grounds
was dedicated to the 'Geumsan Summer Sam-cance' water park!
With air pools, waterslides, and cool fountain tunnels running,
kids were splashing around with pure joy,
while parents got to relax in the shade and enjoy the lively atmosphere.

Note that wearing a hat is mandatory, and they even rent out water guns!
The facilities were incredibly well-managed, complete with
portable changing rooms and showers.
A Wellness Experience Unique to Geumsan

True to its reputation as the ultimate home of ginseng,
the festival offered a wonderful variety of health and wellness programs.
At the Geumsan Herb Experience Center that I checked out,
making fresh flower tea, herbal foot bath experiences,
medicinal herb exhibitions, and sales of samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) ingredients were all happening,

And at the Family Summer Culture Experience Zone,
eco-friendly crafts, making handmade fruit syrups,
and making tea bag flower teas
there were so many wonderful programs to enjoy with kids!
You can even meet star chefs and YouTubers!

One of the standout highlights at this year's festival
was the Star Chef Cooking Zone.
I tried the cold udon by Chef Kim Byung-mook (the famous "Yakitori King" from Culinary Class Wars),
and oh my gosh, it was absolutely delicious!
Even after devouring the hot samgyetang, since the weather was so sizzling,
I was really craving something cold, and this was the perfect light dish to cool down.

Additionally, on July 12th, a Cooking Dinner Show hosted by Chef Park Eun-young took place,
where she shared her exclusive cooking secrets and tips,
And at the Chicken Food Court,
in addition to Chef Kim Byung-mook, popular chefs and creators like Chef Jung Woo-young,
Chef Cho Kwang-hyo, Chef Chae Nak-young, and YouTuber Jung Da-hyun ("Gimbap Captain")
all participated
to showcase special menus featuring ginseng and chicken.
Also, at the Healthy Cooking Class,
nutritionist Kim Min-ji hosted a healthy cooking session,
offering a hands-on experience to learn and enjoy
rather than just buying and eating food.
Evening Concerts & Night Programs
If you enjoyed the food and activities during the day,
you can catch fantastic live performances in the evening!

At this year's opening ceremony,
Cheon Rok-dam (Mr. Trot 3), Kim Ryeo-won (Miss Trot 4),
and Son Heon-soo (comedian & trot singer) performed,
marking a spectacular and festive start!
In addition to this,
Geumsan Tropical Night Sam-Maek (Ginseng & Beer) Party (July 11th) Geumsan Culture & Arts Open Square (July 12th) Romantic Summer Night Busking (Daily at 20:00 during the festival) Geumsan Starlight Flea Market (16:00~21:00) |
and other diverse night programs are lined up,
allowing you to enjoy a completely different vibe from the daytime.
In particular, the Sam-Maek Party is where you can enjoy ginseng beer and live music together,
making it Geumsan's very own signature program.
If you're visiting in the evening, you absolutely must experience it!

Having visited the 2026 Geumsan Samgyetang Festival in person,

From ginseng samgyetang and various health-boosting foods,
