Getty Villa 2026: Essential Guide for Your Visit
Plan your perfect 2026 visit to the Getty Villa! This guide shares insider tips on free admission, securing reservations, and navigating parking for a seamless experience.

Hello, this is Ongsang 🙂
You all know the Getty Center, right?
Actually, besides the Center,
there's another Getty.
That's the Getty Villa.
I visited it myself this time, and
again... I found myself wondering, 'Is this really free?'
I went early in the morning and it was so peaceful.
It felt like visiting a friend's lavish home,
which I loved.
(A vicarious experience since I don't have wealthy friends, haha!)
I'm excited to share that amazing experience with you right now 🙂

📍 The Getty Villa
17985 Pacific Coast Hwy, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272, USA

As you look down, you'll see the floor is paved with large, irregular stones.
This is a direct recreation of the ancient Roman roads in Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Even before entering the villa,
you're essentially walking through a Roman alleyway from 2,000 years ago!!!
The Getty Villa, nestled right by the PCH coastal road
in Pacific Palisades, is a museum dedicated to
ancient Greek and Roman artifacts.
The building itself is a faithful recreation of a Roman-era villa,
so the moment you step inside the museum,
it feels like you've been transported through time and space.

It houses approximately 44,000 artifacts from ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria,
with about 1,300 of them on permanent display.
Admission is free.
Throughout my visit,
I kept wondering how incredibly wealthy Mr. Getty must have been
to make all of this possible.

Upon entering, you'll find guide brochures available, including one in Korean.

Key Highlights
1. The Villa Building Itself
This building is a faithful recreation of the Roman Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum.
Yes, that villa buried by Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The moment you step inside, it truly feels like you've been transported to somewhere in Europe.

2. The Outer Peristyle (Reflecting Pool)
This is an outdoor area featuring columns and a reflecting pool,
and your photos here are guaranteed to turn out amazing!

3. Victorious Youth
This is a 4th-century BC bronze sculpture.
Discovered in the Mediterranean Sea,
seeing it in person is truly awe-inspiring.

4. The Gardens
There are several gardens, including the Herb Garden, Inner Peristyle,
and Outer Peristyle.
With olive trees, herbs, and water lilies growing,
they evoke an ancient Mediterranean ambiance.
Simply strolling through them makes your visit worthwhile.
The scent of herbs alone is incredibly therapeutic.

5. Ocean Views
Right next to the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway), incredible Pacific Ocean views unfold before you.
On a beautiful day, the views alone are pure bliss.

Café & Gift Shop
As you finish your tour and head out,
there are two spots you absolutely must visit.
☕ The Café (Café at the Getty Villa)

I didn't get to stop by this time,
but I highly recommend it to anyone visiting with a relaxed schedule.
There are indoor and outdoor seats,
and if you sit outside, you can relax while enjoying views of the villa building
and the surrounding hills.
The Mediterranean-style food
also perfectly matches the ambiance.
▶ Cafe Operating Hours ◀
Mon & Wed–Fri 11:00 AM ~ 3:00 PM
Sat & Sun 11:00 AM ~ 4:00 PM
(Closed on Tuesdays)
🛍️ Gift Shop (Getty Museum Store)

It's located right below the cafe, across from the entrance.
You'll find a wide array of Getty Villa exclusive merchandise,
including jewelry, postcards, tote bags, magnets, and books,
all inspired by ancient Greek and Roman artifacts.

I was genuinely ready to open my wallet for some travel souvenirs.
But you know how some merchandise can be, right? It just makes you keep your wallet firmly shut... 😅

This hat, tucked away in some corner,
was probably the prettiest thing I saw... hehe.
I even tried to buy a postcard,
but they didn't have much in stock,
so I unintentionally saved my money.
👨👩👧 Visiting with Kids - The Family Forum

No need to worry about bringing your little ones
to the museum.
The Getty Villa has a dedicated space
called the Family Forum.

It's an interactive space where kids can draw on life-size
replicas of ancient pottery with dry-erase
markers, sketch patterns on paper pottery, and
learn about ancient artifacts.
It's not just about looking; it's a place where they can directly
touch, draw, and learn, so kids won't have a moment to be bored.
Family programs run year-round and are free.
There are also hands-on art workshops on Saturdays, so
if you're visiting with kids,
definitely aim for a Saturday!

The Getty Villa: A Complete Rundown
If the Getty Center is all about art,
then the Getty Villa is a journey through time.

Walking through an ancient Roman villa
and seeing 2,000-year-old artifacts –
the fact that this is free
is truly an unbelievable experience.
Honestly, the $25 parking fee
was absolutely worth it.

If you go early in the morning, it's peaceful,
you can enjoy the ocean breeze,
and take your time exploring.
If you plan your visit for the same day as the Getty Center,
you'll only pay for parking once,
so I highly recommend combining both locations!
