I've had the pleasure of visiting both the Garaku Main branch and the Shitateru branch.

Today, I'm excited to share my experience at Garaku Main.

📌 Waiting Tips

I had originally planned to be there for the 'open run' (arriving before opening), but after reading reviews that suggested even arriving 30 minutes early could mean an hour-long wait, I decided to get there around 10:20 AM.

Even then, there were already close to 30 people in line! We've only ever visited during peak seasons like the Snow Festival or Beer Festival, so for us, a wait has always been part of the Garaku experience.

While Garaku officially opens at 11:30 AM, the waiting list registration begins at 11:00 AM. I recommend signing up for the waitlist and then exploring nearby shops like Daiso or Animate to pass the time before your table is ready.

At the entrance, you'll find a tablet where you can enter the number of people in your party. It will then issue a ticket with a QR code.

Scanning the QR code allows you to check your real-time waiting status and receive call-up notifications. I used the Line app for notifications, but you can also check without it.

The crows in Sapporo were as big as my dog.

While waiting, I couldn't help but snap a photo of this cute sign. Haha.

📌 Inside the Restaurant

Compared to the Shitateru branch I visited previously,

the Main branch is much more spacious, and surprisingly, has quite a lot of seating.

There are even single-person counter seats for solo diners,

making it a comfortable spot to enjoy a meal alone.

📌 The Menu

I've made a rough translation :) English menus are available in the store.

Here's how to order:

1. Choose your soup curry base.

2. Select your desired spice level.

3. Pick your rice size (L size and up incurs an additional charge of ~$1).

4. Add any extra toppings you like (optional).

Additional toppings range from grilled cheese (served on the rice) to eggplant, natto, pumpkin, and fried broccoli. You can also order Zangi (Hokkaido-style fried chicken), a local specialty, as a side dish.

For drinks, they offer a variety from homemade lassi to coffee, beer, and cocktails.

📌 What We Ordered

I ordered the vegetable curry with added broccoli topping, choosing spice level 3. The spice level was a pleasant warmth, less spicy than a typical medium chili, so even those who can't handle too much heat should be fine. However, it might be a bit too intense for young children.

I chose the M-sized rice with a cheese topping. At first, I wondered why anyone would put cheese on rice, but now I always order cheese rice when I go for soup curry!

My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken curry at spice level 4.

Level 4 felt like a robust medium-hot, similar to a spicy ramen. It's a great choice for those who want to enjoy some meat with their curry.

The fried chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Dipping a piece of chicken into the soup curry and eating it with rice is simply divine! 💕

Sapporo = Soup Curry

The broccoli + cheese rice combo is fantastic.

The Main branch is more spacious and comfortable than Shitateru.

Though, somehow, I feel the Shitateru branch might have a slight edge in flavor.
