Ala Mahaina Condo Hotel: Okinawa's Best Family-Friendly Northern Retreat
Struggling to find the perfect family hotel in Okinawa? Ala Mahaina Condo Hotel offers separate bedrooms, full kitchens, and unbeatable ocean views.
Our Honest Review: Paid with Our Own Money
While the Ryukyu Hotel Naha Beach, where we stayed the night before, was a lovely 5-star property, there was no comparison:
Ala Mahaina was infinitely better!
Why, you ask? Because of its separate bedroom and living room layout, which meant we could finally put our baby to bed and enjoy some much-needed adult time! It was a game-changer.
Seriously, this place is incredible. You'd be hard-pressed to find another condo-style hotel in Okinawa with such a fantastic separate room setup.
Plus, it has a Starbucks, Blue Seal ice cream, and plenty of restaurants right outside. And the Churaumi Aquarium is only a 5-minute drive away!
They even offer baby food at breakfast!
If you're traveling to Okinawa with a baby, Ala Mahaina is a must-stay. For the sake of mom and dad's evening sanity, we'll definitely be staying here for our entire trip next time.
I'll also share some tips for finding the best prices and discounts!
1. Ala Mahaina Location & Nearby Amenities
& Surrounding Infrastructure
📍 Ala Mahaina Condo Hotel
1421-1 Yamagawa, Motobu, Kunigami District, Okinawa 905-0205 Japan
📍 Airport → Northern Okinawa Travel
Ala Mahaina is a northern Okinawa hotel, located approximately a 1 hour and 40-minute drive from Naha International Airport.
Since it's a bit of a distance to go directly from the airport, we recommend staying near the airport or in the southern region on your first night, then heading to Ala Mahaina for a 2-night, 3-day stay starting on your second day. We took a leisurely drive up the scenic coastal road on our second day, and it felt like we arrived in no time!
The main reason we chose a northern hotel?
The famous Churaumi Aquarium!
📍 Hotel → Churaumi Aquarium: Just a 3-Minute Drive!
We picked this spot specifically because it's just a 3-minute drive to the Churaumi Aquarium. Seriously, it took exactly 3 minutes!
I had originally planned to be there for opening, but due to our little one's schedule, we ended up going around noon after their nap. The short distance made it feel like a casual stroll through the neighborhood!
Whether you want to arrive early for opening or take a relaxed afternoon visit, the proximity is incredibly convenient. For families traveling with young children or expectant mothers who need to adapt to varying energy levels, Ala Mahaina Hotel is definitely the best choice.
📍 Hanasaki Marche: Right at Your Doorstep!
One of the biggest perks of Ala Mahaina Hotel's location is that it's directly in front of Hanasaki Marche, a fantastic shopping complex. It's literally a 30-second walk! You step out of the hotel, and you're right in the middle of the shops, making it easy to pop over even with a baby carrier, no stroller needed.
You'll find everything from Yakiniku and seafood restaurants to a food court, popular onigiri spots, and even Yanbaru Gelato, which is part of the Okinawa Fun Pass program! It's all right there.
Next to Blue Seal, there's even a Starbucks Drive-Thru, so we'd always grab a coffee to go before heading out for the day.
The souvenir shop right in front of the hotel seemed to have every Okinawa souvenir imaginable – if it wasn't there, it probably didn't exist!
Even the highly sought-after color-changing tumblers that react to cold water were sold here!
📍 Convenience Store (FamilyMart)
Unlike the Ryukyu Hotel, which lacked a convenience store, Ala Mahaina has a FamilyMart just a 2-minute drive away! The parking lot is spacious, making it easy to drive there.
It was fully stocked with delicious food and snacks!
Buying snacks and beer here, then enjoying them on the terrace with my husband after the baby was asleep, was pure bliss. Those evenings were truly happy!
The hotel's location is truly unparalleled. If you're looking for a northern Okinawa hotel to stay with your baby, Ala Mahaina is the absolute best.

2. Check-in & Parking Information
✅ Check-in: 3:00 PM
✅ Check-out: 11:00 AM
Like many hotels in Japan, check-in is strictly enforced at 3:00 PM. Arriving early won't get you into your room sooner.
However, the lobby offers a spacious waiting area, and with Hanasaki Marche (the shopping complex) right outside, we easily passed the time grabbing gelato and browsing the souvenir shops until our room was ready.
At check-in, kids get to pick a complimentary stuffed animal!
Truly a family-friendly hotel! ❤️
📍 Parking Information
The hotel has a large parking lot directly in front. Parking costs ~$7 per night. It's common for hotels in Japan to charge for parking.
When traveling with a baby, you usually have a lot of luggage. We found it much easier to first pull up to the hotel's main entrance, unload our bags, and then have the driver (my husband, of course!) park the car.
The hotel also offers luggage storage service, so you can leave your suitcases before check-in or after check-out! This means you could check out on your last day, visit Churaumi Aquarium, and then head straight to the airport without worrying about your bags.
3. Superior Twin Room Tour
The moment we stepped into our room at Ala Mahaina Condo Hotel, we knew it was fantastic.
As its name suggests, it's a 'condo hotel,' which means the bedroom and living room are separate, and the kitchen is fully equipped for cooking. It was genuinely better than most Airbnbs we've stayed in.

Even though it was one of the more affordable rooms, it was incredibly spacious at around 570 square feet!
The Bedroom (Separate Layout)
This was the most crucial reason we chose Ala Mahaina. The living room and bedroom are separated by a sliding door!
The bed area is separated by a sliding partition, and there's a separate door for the bedroom next to the TV.
After putting our baby to sleep, my husband and I enjoyed some snacks and beer we bought from the convenience store in the living room. It was truly some much-needed relaxation. 🥹
Inside the bedroom, there were also pajamas and a dehumidifier/air purifier, which was a great touch 👍🏻
Living Room & Terrace
The entire room features wood flooring rather than carpet, which feels much more hygienic and keeps dust down.
The living room has an exceptionally large sofa that's almost like a bed, perfect for our baby to roll around and play on during the day. At night, my husband even slept on it!
There's also a separate two-seater sofa with a backrest, convenient for sitting down right after coming in from outside.
In the center, you'll find a round table, a vanity, and a TV.
All rooms offer an ocean view, so you can enjoy the stunning sea right from your terrace!
Kitchen Facilities
For easy cooking, there's a sink and induction cooktop, and it's fully equipped with a microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot, and even a coffee machine!
The refrigerator has a freezer compartment and ample storage, and all sorts of dishes and even dish soap are provided.
There's also a large dining table for four, where we enjoyed onigiri we picked up from Hanasaki Marche for dinner.
Isn't this absolutely fantastic? This is exactly what a vacation accommodation should be like! If we visit Okinawa again, we will definitely stay here. No more cramped hotel rooms!
The night before, we stayed at the Ryukyu Hotel Naha Beach, a famous 5-star hotel in southern Okinawa. But even though Ala Mahaina was much more affordable than Ryukyu, our satisfaction here was significantly higher. When traveling with a baby, it really makes all the difference!
Even without a baby, a spacious, condo-style hotel with cooking facilities like this would be absolutely ideal.
4. Discount Price Comparison
The pool is also incredibly large, beautiful, and wonderful, but to keep this post from getting too long, I'll cover that along with breakfast in a separate post! ✨
