Doi Soi 12 Bangkok Review: Specialty Coffee & Brunch

While searching for a cozy brunch spot near Asok BTS Station and Korea Town in Bangkok, I stumbled upon a famous local gem: Doi Chang Coffee.

Doi Chang Coffee is a well-known franchise with several branches across Bangkok. The specific location I visited is called doi soi 12 cafe.

Doi Soi 12 is incredibly easy to find. It is just a quick 5 to 6-minute walk from Asok Station heading towards Nana Station. Since it is located right near Korea Town, you will see a lively mix of locals and tourists exploring the neighborhood.

The man featured in the iconic logo caught my curiosity, so I did some digging. His name is Piko Saedoo, and he is the visionary founder of Doi Chang Coffee.

​

Doi Chaang is an actual mountain village located in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand. This area was once heavily reliant on opium cultivation, but thanks to an initiative supported by the Thai Royal Family, the community successfully transitioned to coffee farming. Today, it has blossomed into a massive specialty coffee plantation spanning over 11,000 acres (about 17 square miles). Rated among the top 1% of specialty coffees globally, it is an absolute must-try when you are in Thailand.

Interior

The interior is clean, modern, and very inviting. During my visit, I saw couples chatting, people quietly reading, and digital nomads focused on their laptops. Since I always travel with my laptop to work on the go, I found this to be the perfect, stress-free space to enjoy a meal and get some writing done.

The staff here are incredibly welcoming, and even though I stayed for over an hour, there was absolutely no pressure to rush. The cafe attracts a high percentage of international travelers and expats, giving it a friendly, global atmosphere.

Menu

Since I was craving a classic western breakfast, I ordered the Breakfast Set B. The main difference between Set A and Set B is that Set B lets you choose an additional beverage.

When ordering, the server asked which type of bread I preferred. I appreciated having the option between hearty wheat toast and classic white toast.

They also offer a fantastic variety of pancakes. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many diverse choices, including local Thai dishes, on the menu.

The menu options are endless—it is practically the size of a book! You can find everything from sandwiches and finger foods to authentic Thai dishes, making it perfect for any craving.

As for the coffee, an Iced Americano or Latte is priced at 80 THB (around $2.30). Compared to other specialty coffee shops in central Bangkok, this is incredibly reasonable and budget-friendly.

It was really cool to see the founder's face printed directly on the retail coffee bean packages displayed around the shop.

One unique design touch often seen in Bangkok is having the handwashing sink located just outside the restroom. The self-service area with straws and sugar was also kept spotlessly clean.

Fresh orange juice comes standard with the breakfast set, and since I ordered Set B, I got to choose an iced coffee as my second drink.

During my month-long stay in Bangkok, this was my only classic American breakfast. While I rarely eat heavy breakfasts back home, I love treating myself to a hearty brunch when traveling. This platter was incredibly generous, featuring crispy bacon, sausage, grilled onions, roasted potatoes, a perfectly fried egg, and baked beans.

I usually try to limit eating bacon, but a vacation brunch is the perfect excuse to indulge. I like to think the fresh side salad offsets the calories!

The toast was lightly grilled, leaving it soft on the edges with a satisfying crunch in the center.

Brunch is all about taking it slow—sleeping in late, throwing on some comfortable clothes, and heading to a peaceful neighborhood spot. Doi Soi 12 captures that exact, laid-back vibe perfectly.

Watching families and couples laughing and sharing food made me feel a bit nostalgic. Traveling solo is incredibly rewarding, but it can get a bit quiet sometimes.
