01. Booking Your Dalian to Dandong Train Ticket
The very first thing you need to do when planning train travel in China is to book your train tickets!
I found Trip.com to be the easiest option, especially with its excellent English language support!
It makes international card payments a breeze, and I highly recommend it for first-time users.

Keep in mind there's a small service fee when booking online.
However, trying to buy tickets at the station can mean you won't get your desired time or seat, so booking in advance is definitely the way to go!

Once on Trip.com, just search like this:
📍 Departure: Dalian (大连)
📍 Arrival: Dandong (丹东)
Even on the same route, travel times can vary slightly.
Some trains take about 2 hours and 30 minutes, while others might take 3 hours or more.
Prices also differ depending on the train type and time of day, so make sure to check carefully!

Most Chinese high-speed trains have a 3-2 seating arrangement.
This means one side has three seats, and the other has two, unlike the common 2-2 layout you might find elsewhere!
Dandong Train Seating Tip 💡
Since choosing your seat can be tricky when booking in person,
I highly recommend using Trip.com to select your seat in advance,
aiming for the more comfortable two-seat side!

02. Important Notes Before Boarding Your Train in Dalian

You absolutely need your passport to enter the train station.
While Chinese citizens use their ID cards, foreign visitors must present a passport for identity verification!
After showing your passport at the entrance gate for identity confirmation, you'll proceed to the security checkpoint.
It felt a bit like going through airport security!

They conduct thorough bag checks at the security gate!
✔️ Unopened alcoholic beverages are allowed.
✔️ You can bring food to eat on the train.
✔️ Be aware of power bank capacity limits; your power bank must clearly display its Wh (Watt-hour) rating.
Power banks over 20,000 mAh might be restricted, so double-check the regulations before you travel.

After clearing security, you'll head up to the second floor where all the platforms are located.
The signs are in Chinese characters, but you only need to confirm your train number and departure time!
Initially, I was a bit worried about getting on the wrong train, but it was surprisingly straightforward, similar to train systems in other countries!
Dalian Station Tips: Recap 💡
1. Always carry your passport.
2. Be mindful of power bank regulations at security.
3. Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure.

Once the gate opens, after a final check of your ticket and passport, you'll head down to the 🚊 train boarding area!
