Dahab to Petra Day Trip Review 2026: Itinerary & Essential Tips

Relaxing in Dahab, Egypt is wonderful, but...

...how about a journey to the mysterious ancient city of Petra, Jordan, straight out of the movie 'Indiana Jones'?

While it might be a bit pricey, you can do Petra as a day trip from Dahab,

making it incredibly popular for travelers seeking a truly special experience.

Today, I'll share a detailed review of my Petra day trip,

which I experienced through Dahab Wolf Safari.

1. Dahab - Jordan

Pickup & Tour Begins

The Petra day trip is

an extremely challenging journey, starting between 3 and 5 AM.

We were picked up at '04:45, Coffee Corner in front of Raha House',

and took a 12-seater van to a gas station on the outskirts of Dahab.

Here, after a brief explanation, we received our departure card and ferry ticket,

and our Petra journey officially began.

💡There's a convenience store at the gas station where you can buy snacks, but the prices are high, so it's recommended to prepare them beforehand!

Egypt Departure (Taba)

05:20 Depart for Taba -> 06:50 Arrive at Taba Ferry Terminal

Here, passports, departure cards, and ferry tickets are checked,

and baggage inspection takes place.

⛔️In Petra, telephoto lenses over 70mm are prohibited, so the inspection was quite thorough!!

At 07:30, after completing the simple departure procedures, we finally boarded the ferry!

The 2nd-floor outdoor seats were very windy and quite cold, so I recommend the 1st-floor indoor seats.

During the journey, we also filled out the Jordan arrival card.

💡Bringing a pen beforehand will come in handy!

2. Jordan - Petra

Jordan Entry (Aqaba)

08:40, Arrival at Aqaba Port, Jordan

Unlike the Egyptian port, it was located **within a resort complex**,

creating a **clean and vibrant atmosphere**.

After clearing immigration, you'll have some time to use the restroom

or grab a tea.

💡Beer can be hard to find in Jordan, so it's popular to buy some ​Jordanian beer at the duty-free shop before immigration!

As the journey continued, I started to feel more tired,

but thankfully, my data SIM worked perfectly, so I could watch YouTube to pass the time.

Mid-journey Rest Stop

11:25, Arrival at the rest stop with souvenir shops

You can browse small souvenirs like magnets,

but **prices in Jordan are quite high**, so I just looked around.

💡The rooftop is famous for its **viewpoint**, so definitely go up and check it out!

3. Petra

Petra Park

12:30, Finally arriving at Petra!

After passing the PETRA photo zone and entering the park,

you'll find souvenir shops, and **bargaining is possible** here, so try to get a good deal!

Our guide explained things briefly using a map and handed out our **entrance tickets**.

We also received a warning that if you go **past the 'Roman Theater'**, your return time might be tight, so be mindful.

After entering, please **firmly refuse horse and cart touts who claim it's 'free'**!

The Siq

The journey into Petra begins with the colossal canyon, The Siq.

As you walk between the towering, sheer rock faces on either side,

I was completely overwhelmed by the grandeur of nature!

It was like a mystical landscape, a miniature Grand Canyon,

and the beautiful sounds of birds harmonizing, it was truly magnificent.

Al-Khazneh (The Treasury)

As the canyon came to an end,

finally, there it was: Al-Khazneh, famously known from the movie 'Indiana Jones', right before my eyes!

There were camels in front, and a line of people waiting to take photos at the rock photo zone on the right.

On the left, there was a snack bar. It was a bit pricey, but thanks to the cheerful owner,

I happily bought and enjoyed some cup noodles.

💡 You can capture amazing panoramic views from a viewpoint cafe (paid) on the cliff opposite Al-Khazneh.

Roman Theater & Viewpoint

After passing Al-Khazneh, you'll find restrooms and a Bedouin cafe.

If you go straight, you'll reach the Roman Theater,

and if you cross to the right, a fantastic viewpoint awaits.

💡 Make sure to climb up to the viewpoint and snap a photo with the Jordanian flag!

4. Petra - Jordan

Lunch

16:10, It was time for a late lunch.

I had high hopes for the buffet, but unfortunately, the food wasn't quite to my taste,

so I ended up only eating a little bit of chicken.

💡 Don't forget to pack some simple snacks or bread before your tour starts.

Aqaba Free Time

19:25, We had 30 minutes of free time in front of the Hilton Hotel.

There's a supermarket, McDonald's, and souvenir shops all clustered together, but prices are generally on the higher side.

💡 You can also use the restrooms inside the Hilton Hotel!

Departure from Jordan (Aqaba)

20:10, It was time for departure procedures again at Aqaba Port.

It went surprisingly quickly, and we boarded the returning ferry.

This time, I used the indoor seats on the first floor,

but it was quite uncomfortable due to the heat and the crowd.

5. Jordan - Dahab

Entry to Egypt (Taba)

Entry procedures were straightforward,

Buses for Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh are mixed,

so it's essential to confirm your destination.

💡 Don't worry, the guide will ask you first, "Are you Korean? (in English)".

Pick-up & Drop-off

00:00, We arrived back at the gas station where the tour had started.

We got into a 12-seater van with Wolf Safari, and the pick-up/drop-off began.

00:30, Dropped off near Raha House, concluding a 19-hour journey!

My body was tired, but I was so happy because Petra is simply unforgettable.

6. Conclusion

The Dahab-Petra day trip tour with Wolf Safari,

While it's a super intense journey with over 14 hours of travel alone,

getting to see Petra, one of the 'Seven Wonders' and the 'Jewel of Jordan,' in just one day

was a truly special experience.

The moment Al-Khazneh first appeared after passing through the Siq canyon

is an emotion I think I'll never forget.

I truly recommend sacrificing one intense day during your Egypt trip,

and visiting Petra.
