Wondering what to eat in Hongcheon that will have everyone talking?
Whenever I visit my family in Hongcheon, there are always a few dishes I absolutely crave. But with limited time, I often miss out on some of my favorites.
Among them, Daegu Sikdang's kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) is a true hidden gem that I often struggle to fit into my schedule.
It's so off-the-beaten-path, it's not even registered on major navigation apps like Naver Maps, so I can't even link the exact spot!
You can find it at: 2543 Guryongnyeong-ro, Seoseok-myeon, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do.
It's conveniently located near the Seoseok Hanaro Mart.

Their seafood kalguksu boasts a refreshingly savory broth that's truly comforting.
I remember it used to have a lot of sea squirts (mideodeok), but on my recent visit, they weren't there. A bit of a shame!
Even so, the incredible flavor hasn't changed a bit.

You need to order a minimum of two servings, which meant my mom, despite passing by often, could never enjoy it alone. Haha!

Even without the sea squirts, it was packed with shrimp.

And here, the real magic happens when you eat it with their kimchi.
While the number of side dishes has decreased, alternating between the young radish kimchi, mustard greens kimchi, and napa cabbage kimchi with your noodles is absolutely divine.

You can also customize your bowl by adding spicy green chilies or sprinkling seaweed flakes to your liking.
They only serve lunch until 2:00 PM, and I'm not entirely sure when their break time ends. I was so busy enjoying my meal, I forgot to ask!
Honestly, it's not a fancy restaurant with a huge, perfectly organized interior. Instead, I recommend it to anyone craving delicious kalguksu with a charming, old-school, local vibe.
You can even check out a YouTube video featuring Han Hye-jin, Pungja, and Lalal visiting this spot if you want a sneak peek.
For me, it's truly a beloved spot, like a regular haunt I must visit whenever I'm in Hongcheon.
