Looking at the heart of Sapporo, you'll find these key subway stations leading the way: Sapporo Station, Odori Park, Susukino, and Nakajima Park.
Sapporo Station is the hub for all transportation, Odori Park famously hosts the incredible Sapporo Snow Festival, and Susukino buzzes with an array of shopping malls and vibrant streets – these are truly the dynamic heart of Sapporo city! Meanwhile, Nakajima Park, home to the Courtyard by Marriott Sapporo, offers a slightly more serene and peaceful vibe.
From Shin-Chitose Airport, hop on the JR Rapid Airport train, get off at Sapporo Station, then transfer to the JR Namboku Line, and you'll arrive at Nakajima-Koen Station.
For the hotel, your best bet is to head out through subway Exit 1.
With a big suitcase in tow, climbing stairs was out of the question, so I happily opted for the elevator!
Stepping out of Exit 1, I was greeted by a charming vehicle selling Yakiiimo – delicious roasted sweet potatoes!
There's nothing quite like warm roasted sweet potatoes as a cozy winter snack, is there?
It was my first time seeing them sold right out of a car – what a delightful surprise!
Perhaps it's because there are so many hotels around here, but I spotted plenty of fellow travelers, all eager to explore!
Step out of Exit 1, and the Courtyard by Marriott Sapporo will be right there to greet you.
Hotel Exterior & Entrance – Your First Glimpse!
The hotel was a super convenient, just a ~5-minute walk from the station.
Since it only opened last year, it looked incredibly neat and fresh even from the outside.
I arrived in the evening, and wow, it was bustling! Perhaps because it was the very start of the Sapporo Snow Festival, there was quite a line just to check in.
The lobby was a bit on the cozy side.
It was lovely to see plenty of families checking in and enjoying their stay.
The lobby thoughtfully provided umbrellas, seemingly available for guests to borrow – perfect for those unexpected snowy or rainy days!
And for the little adventurers, sleds and snow play toys were available to borrow, ensuring endless fun in the winter wonderland.
About half of the first-floor lobby was cleverly designed as a comfortable lounge area.
The elevators featured a smart system: just tap your card key, and it automatically whisks you away to your floor.
No card key? No problem, just kidding! Without it, the elevator simply wouldn't budge – a great security feature.
Assigned to a room on the 5th floor, it was time to head up and see what awaited!
Our Room
As a points stay, we were assigned a Superior King Bed Room on the 5th floor.
And get this – when we stayed again two days later, we even scored an upgrade to a Deluxe King Bed Room!
It featured a plush king bed and a cozy bed-style chair right by the window.
Having just opened last year, the hotel still felt wonderfully new and impeccably clean.
While the room wasn't massive, it provided ample space for a family of two.
Considering that Japanese hotel rooms can often be on the smaller side, I actually found this one to be quite spacious!
You'll find three bottles of complimentary mineral water and capsule coffee, a welcome touch! And that cute mint-colored item? It's a refreshing mint candy, a little gift they hand out at check-in.
You'll find cups, spoons, and a mini-fridge for your convenience.
We even ordered extra water and ice, and they were graciously provided free of charge!
Bathroom & Toilet
The toilet and sink were neatly arranged side-by-side, with a separate shower booth right next to them – very convenient!
The amenities were super comprehensive, including toothbrushes, razors, mouthwash, soap, combs, cotton swabs, and shower caps – basically everything you could possibly need!
Next to the shower, you'd find full-sized shampoo, conditioner, and body wash readily available.
The closet held two cozy pairs of slippers, perfect for unwinding.
On the bedside table, we found an alarm clock with wireless phone charging (a lifesaver!), a telephone, a notepad, and a ballpoint pen.
I even requested a wake-up call for the next morning, and it seemed to be automatically managed by their system – super efficient!
After a day of exploring, we came back at night and took full advantage of the hotel's sento – a wonderful communal bath. Soaking in the hot water with my son was the perfect way to melt away all the day's fatigue; it felt absolutely heavenly!
Even better, it's completely free for hotel guests! The hours are fantastic too: 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and then again from 3:00 PM until midnight, making it ideal for a late-night unwind after a busy day.
While we arrived in the evening, quickly dropped off our bags, and headed straight for downtown Sapporo, meaning we didn't get to fully explore all the amenities, this hotel has some definite perks. It's super close to the subway, offers a peaceful respite from the urban hustle, and its sparkling newness (it's less than a year old!) was a massive plus.
Its peaceful, quiet, and pristine environment is certainly a draw, but do note that from Nakajima Park where the hotel is situated, you'll incur a subway fare of around 210 JPY to reach Susukino, Odori, and Sapporo Station.
If your main focus is city sightseeing, I'd suggest finding a hotel closer to Susukino, Odori, or Sapporo Station – that way, you'll hardly need the subway at all!
However, if you're a Marriott loyalist and have hotel status, then the Courtyard Sapporo comes highly recommended!
