For my recent summer escape, I set my sights on Palawan, Philippines. Everyone raves about the stunning beauty of Palawan's waters, and the chance to spot dugongs – which I missed seeing in Egypt – sealed the deal. So, this summer, Coron in Palawan became my destination.
Palawan is known for three famous islands: El Nido, Coron, and one other. I initially considered combining El Nido and Coron, but decided against splitting my focus. Instead, I chose to immerse myself fully in Coron!
I was especially excited for Coron because of the dugongs and the promise of an even more vibrant underwater environment.

From home, I took the airport express to Incheon International Airport. There are no direct flights from my home country to Coron, Philippines, so travelers typically transit through either Clark or Cebu.
Since transiting through Clark was more affordable, I chose that route for my journey to Coron.

I flew with Jeju Air. The 9:35 PM flight was perfect, allowing me to head straight to the airport after work – truly a convenient time slot!

I was quite surprised to find the flight to Clark, Philippines, filled almost entirely with men. It seems Clark is a renowned destination for golf trips, and I hadn't realized how many people traveled for it!

After a quick nap, we arrived at Clark Airport. I had a rather long layover, about 6-7 hours, which was tough to endure. Unlike more modern airports, comfortable seating was scarce, making the wait quite challenging.
Moving from Clark's international terminal to the domestic one is straightforward: simply exit the international arrivals and head directly up to the 3rd floor for domestic departures.

Upon arrival at Coron's Busuanga Airport, you're required to pay an environmental fee in cash. Crucially, there are NO currency exchange facilities at Busuanga Airport!
If you're transiting through Clark on your way to Coron, make sure to exchange your currency at Clark Airport. Not only is it convenient, but Clark generally offers a better exchange rate than Coron itself.
In Coron, the exchange rate was around 60 Philippine Pesos (PHP) per US dollar, whereas Clark consistently provided a more favorable rate.

For the domestic leg, I flew with Cebu Pacific.
I initially struggled to add baggage through the third-party travel site I used, worrying I'd have to pay extra at the airport. However, I discovered that after signing up for a Cebu Pacific account and linking my travel information, I could add baggage directly through their site.
My tip: if you book a budget fare, it's often cheaper to add baggage directly on Cebu Pacific's website after securing your flight.

Finally, at 7:00 AM, we were off to Busuanga Airport!

It was raining, and a kind Cebu Pacific staff member even shielded me with an umbrella – a truly heartwarming gesture!

The plane was a propeller aircraft, and the overhead compartments were quite low, almost touching my head! Luckily, there weren't many passengers, so we had plenty of space.

The color of the Coron sea is absolutely mesmerizing! I couldn't wait to dive in.

We touched down at Coron Airport (Francisco B. Reyes Airport) at 7:50 AM, arriving quicker than expected.

First order of business: paying the 200 PHP environmental fee. Now, it was time to figure out how to get from Busuanga Airport to Coron town.
I wondered about the best way to get around, but it turns out it's quite simple: just step outside the airport, and you'll find plenty of local drivers ready to arrange your transfer. For 300 PHP per person, they'll get you a shared van directly to your accommodation.
Typically, you'd share a van with other travelers heading to similar areas. However, it seemed we were the only ones bound for our particular hotel, so we ended up with a private ride!
If you're looking for an even more affordable option, you can pre-book your transfer via Klook. It costs around ~$4 per person, which can save you about ~$1 compared to booking directly at the airport.

It took about 25 minutes from landing to get into our vehicle, followed by a 30-40 minute drive to Coron town.

For our departure on the last day, we opted to book our transfer from Coron town back to the airport via Klook.
After booking, they contacted us via WhatsApp, confirming the pickup time from our hotel, which made the process incredibly smooth. A pro tip for Coron travel: having WhatsApp installed is super convenient for coordinating with tours and transfers!
This covers how to get to and from Coron Airport. Next time, I'll share some recommendations for accommodations and tours in Coron!
