4. Nyhavn Canal
Nyhavn Canal
After walking through Strøget from the City Hall,
you'll reach the ultimate postcard-perfect landmark of Copenhagen:
the iconic Nyhavn Canal.
Even if the name "Nyhavn" sounds a bit unfamiliar,
you'll definitely go, "Oh! That place!" as soon as you see the photo below.

We loved it so much that we ended up visiting Nyhavn over two consecutive days.
Once a busy commercial port and trading hub,
Nyhavn has now become
Copenhagen’s most beloved travel destination.
It's a wonderful spot where locals and tourists alike
gather to unwind and just enjoy the day.
The cozy cafes and restaurants lining the canal
elevate the vibrant atmosphere even more!~

Must-Visit Spots in Copenhagen: 4. Nyhavn Canal
To give you a quick history lesson,
Nyhavn was constructed in 1670
under the orders of King Christian V,
originally built as a commercial gateway to connect the harbor to the city.
Because of this,
it was the beating heart of trade, and ships arriving
from the Copenhagen port would sail straight into this canal
to transport and unload cargo right into the city.

Must-Visit Spots in Copenhagen: 4. Nyhavn Canal
Back in the day, with so many sailors and merchants gathering here,
the streets were incredibly lively—
though they also had a reputation for being a bit rough and dangerous!
Over time, however, the area underwent
a beautiful modern transformation,
and by the late 20th century, it completely blossomed into a beloved tourist hotspot~

Must-Visit Spots in Copenhagen: 4. Nyhavn Canal
One of the most defining characteristics of Nyhavn Canal is
Just look at these gorgeous, colorful buildings lining the canal!
They date all the way back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
Today, they've been transformed into cozy cafes, delicious restaurants, and lively bars—
making this area the ultimate postcard-perfect photo spot in Copenhagen!
If you want to explore the spots I mentioned today
in more detail, I highly recommend checking out this tour below!
