Chungju Sanghoe is quite famous, even being featured on a popular Korean food show!
They offer a variety of sundaes, including their signature 'Squid Flower Sundae' made with fresh squid, Abai sundae, Makchang sundae, and Nurungji sundae. You can also find potato pancakes (Gamja-jeon) and dumplings.

I couldn't decide what to get, so I opted for the Assorted Sundae Pack and a potato pancake to try a bit of everything!

It was quite busy that day, so I had to wait about 30 minutes. But the owner was incredibly kind and offered me some freshly boiled squid legs to snack on while I waited!
The owner was super friendly, giving off a warm, grandfatherly vibe!
3. My Tasting Experience with Each Sundae Type

When your turn comes, they'll either pack it up for you or, if you're eating it on the spot, they'll dip it in egg wash and grill it fresh on the griddle.
While there are small tables and chairs outside for a quick bite, most people prefer to take their order to go and enjoy it back at their accommodation.

I also decided to get my assorted sundae and potato pancake to go, eager to enjoy them warm back at my hotel.

Watching them dip the sundae in egg wash and grill it on the hot griddle right after you order was mesmerizing – the aroma of sizzling oil was absolutely incredible!

From left to right, we have the Flower Sundae, Abai Sundae, and Nurungji Sundae.

I brought my freshly packed order back to my room and tried each type!

Each piece was generously filled! Personally, I ranked them in this order of deliciousness: Flower Sundae > Nurungji Sundae > Abai Sundae.
If you're only planning to buy one type, definitely go for the Flower Sundae!
It's Chungju Sanghoe's signature sundae and a unique flavor you won't find anywhere else!

I ordered the assorted pack, and the portion was so generous, it was more than enough for two people!
(I'd say it's perfect for 3-4 people).
To describe the flavors of each sundae:
Abai Sundae had a rich, deep flavor.
Flower Sundae offered a delightful combination of chewy squid and flavorful filling.
Nurungji Sundae didn't stand out much from the others in terms of distinct flavor.
So, if you're choosing just one, I highly recommend the Flower Sundae!
4. Overall Verdict

Chungju Sanghoe's squid sundae is a must-try whenever you visit Sokcho.
After trying it, the Flower Sundae was definitely the star, and the overall experience was worth a visit.
The chewy texture of the squid, combined with the savory filling of vegetables, made it a perfect pairing for a refreshing cold beer.
If you find yourself in the Sokcho Central Market area, make sure to stop by Chungju Sanghoe and give it a try!
