Chuncheon Cycling Route 2026: Uiamho Lake Bike Guide
Escape Seoul for a scenic day of cycling around Chuncheon's Uiamho Lake. Discover bike rental tips, must-see skywalks, and the perfect 2026 half-day route.
Cycling in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do
Often called the "City of Lakes," Chuncheon in Gangwon-do is famous for its breathtaking waterfront scenery.

For a long time, there's been one bucket-list activity I've wanted to do here:
Cycling the entire loop around Uiamho Lake.

The Uiamho Lake cycling path is actually part of the cross-country Bukhangang River Bike Path,
making it an iconic and beloved route among cycling enthusiasts.

Hearing that might make you think you need professional gear and your own road bike to complete the loop,
but even casual travelers can easily rent a bike locally and enjoy the ride.

Today, I'm sharing my experience and practical tips for
'Cycling Around Uiamho Lake'—
the perfect solo activity if you're exploring Chuncheon.

Chuncheon is incredibly easy to visit as a day trip from Seoul.
You can take either the ITX-Cheongchun high-speed train or the regular Gyeongchun subway line.
For a detailed breakdown of transportation options from Seoul,
check out the post linked below.
>> Check Transportation Options from Seoul to Chuncheon <<
I opted for the Gyeongchun Line from Sangbong Station in Seoul.
While the ITX is slightly faster, the subway runs more frequently, and the actual travel time difference isn't huge.
From Sangbong Station, it takes about 1.5 hours to reach Chuncheon Station.

Circling the entirety of Uiamho Lake by bike takes about 3 to 4 hours for beginners.
Therefore, I highly recommend grabbing a hearty meal before you start.

I stopped for lunch at a place called Sundae Baksa near Chuncheon Station.
It's a famous local spot serving Korean blood sausage soup.
Their unique twist is adding bean sprouts to the broth, which makes it super refreshing.
It was the perfect calorie boost before hitting the trail.
📍 Sundae Baksa (Chuncheon Main Branch)
2502 Yeongseo-ro, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do
There are several bike rental shops near Chuncheon Station,
but I rented mine from Samchully Bicycle right in front of the Soyanggang Skywalk.
📍 Soyanggang Skywalk
2663 Yeongseo-ro, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do
📍 Samchully Bicycle (Chuncheon Bicycle)
1F, 2652 Yeongseo-ro, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do
Since rentals are timed,
I recommend exploring the Soyanggang Skywalk on foot first,
and then renting your bike from the shop across the street.

You'll spot Chuncheon Bicycle (Samchully Bicycle) right across from the Skywalk entrance.

You can rent bikes here for 1, 2, or 3 hours, or for the whole day.
The bikes were in great condition,
and I opted for a 3-hour rental for ~$5.
(They accept both cash and cards.)
Since I had already visited major attractions like the Samaksan Cable Car
and the Mulle-gil Canoe on a previous trip,
I only needed the bike for 3 hours just for the ride itself.
However, if this is your first time in Chuncheon and you plan to hop off your bike
to ride the cable car or paddle a canoe along the way,
I highly recommend renting it for the full day.
(A full-day rental is very affordable at around ~$10.)

📍 Animation Museum

Here is the classic Uiamho Lake loop route.

Starting from the Soyanggang Skywalk,
I rode clockwise past the Samaksan Cable Car, Mulle-gil Canoe,
Uiamho Skywalk, Animation Museum,
and Yukrim Land.
(Total time: roughly 3.5 hours at a leisurely, non-professional pace.)
01. Soyanggang Skywalk |

Before hopping on the bike,
the Soyanggang Skywalk is the perfect vantage point
to take in the sweeping views of Uiamho Lake and the city.

It's open from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM between April and October,
and until 5:30 PM from November to March.
There is an admission fee of ~$1,
but they immediately give it back to you as a ~$1 Chuncheon Love Gift Certificate,
making it practically free.

Here's the voucher I got after paying the fee.
You can use this to help pay for your bike rental,
or spend it at local restaurants and cafes
around Chuncheon.

The glass skywalk is extremely well-maintained.

You don't need to change shoes, and it feels incredibly sturdy.
(Note: Sharp objects like trekking poles are prohibited.)

Uiamho Lake is an artificial lake formed by the Uiam Dam,
and its massive scale is truly impressive when viewed from the water.

If you're afraid of heights,
looking straight down through the glass might give you a little thrill!

After crossing the Skywalk,
it was time to officially kick off the bike tour.

The dedicated bike paths hugging the lake are exceptionally well-paved,
making the ride incredibly smooth and enjoyable.
It's no wonder Chuncheon attracts so many cyclists.

You can even spot Legoland across the water.

Along the way, you'll pass the KT&G Sangsangmadang Stay,
a highly-rated accommodation in Chuncheon.

I actually stayed here once for a corporate retreat.
It's situated right on the lakefront and boasts beautiful gardens and cultural events.

Considering the quality of the facilities,
the rates are quite reasonable.
If you're looking for a place to spend the night in Chuncheon,
I definitely recommend checking it out.

The sky was a bit overcast, and I was worried it might rain,
but thankfully, it stayed dry the whole time.

I remember being blown away by the beauty of Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan when I cycled there years ago,
and honestly, Chuncheon's Uiamho Lake easily rivals that experience.
02. Chuncheon Mulle-gil Canoe |

The second major stop on the route is the
Chuncheon Jungdo Mulle-gil Canoe center.

If it's your first time in Chuncheon,
I highly urge you to try this canoe experience.
It costs ~$10 for a solo paddler, or ~$20 for two people sharing a boat.

If you plan on doing the Mulle-gil Canoe experience,
it's much smarter to buy the Chuncheon Tour Pass Light.
While the canoe alone costs ~$10 per person,
the Tour Pass Light is only ~$12
and includes the Mulle-gil Canoe,
plus free admission to other major spots
like the Animation Museum and Yukrim Land!

Here are some of the benefits included
with the Chuncheon Tour Pass Light.
Even if you just do the canoe and one other activity,
the pass easily pays for itself.

03. Samaksan Cable Car |

Shortly after passing the canoe center,
you'll arrive at the
Samaksan Cable Car station.
This is another must-do activity
when visiting Chuncheon.

Connecting Uiamho Lake to Samaksan Mountain,
it is the longest cable car in Korea (~2.24 miles).

When I rode the cable car previously,
the panoramic views of the lake and city from the top were spectacular.
I ended up grabbing a drink at the summit cafe
and just soaking in the scenery for ages.

A round-trip ticket for the Samaksan Cable Car is ~$16,
but you can grab discounted tickets on WAUG.

04. Uiamho Skywalk |

Right around the halfway point of the loop,
you'll hit the Uiamho Skywalk.
It's smaller than the Soyanggang Skywalk you saw at the start,
but it's completely free to enter.

Snap a quick photo for proof you made it, and keep pedaling.

After the Uiamho Skywalk, you cross a bridge
to ride along the opposite side of the lake.
From here, it's a straight shot
all the way to the Animation Museum.
05. Chuncheon Animation Museum |

This is the only animation museum in Korea.
I actually visited this place a while back
for an exhibition featuring the character Cloud Bread.

If you're interested in the history and evolution of both domestic
and international animation, it's definitely worth a stop.

It's a fantastic spot for families traveling with kids,
and surprisingly fun for adults too.

Adult admission is normally ~$5,
but as mentioned earlier, you can get in for free
with the Chuncheon Tour Pass Light.

Because I stopped so often to take photos,
I realized my 3-hour rental window was closing fast.
From the Animation Museum,
I had to hustle all the way back to the Soyanggang Skywalk.

Thankfully, the bike lanes and wooden boardwalks are excellent,
and since it was a weekday with few people around,
I could maintain a good, steady speed without stopping.

The final bridge leading back to the Soyanggang Skywalk.
I was slightly over my 3-hour limit,
so I was pedaling as fast as I could.

Even while rushing, I couldn't help but marvel
at how stunning the lakeside path was.

I arrived back at the starting point just over the 3-hour mark.
If you want to take your time and ride at a leisurely pace,
I strongly suggest renting for at least 4 hours or the whole day.
For context, I'm not an avid cyclist—
I just casually use city bike shares from time to time.

Renting a bike to loop around Uiamho Lake
is not an overly strenuous physical challenge.
There are a few uphill sections,
but they are short, so there's nothing to worry about.

If your sole goal is just to cycle the loop,
a 3 to 4-hour rental is perfect.

However, if you want the ultimate Chuncheon experience—
combining the bike ride with the Samaksan Cable Car, Mulle-gil Canoe, and more—
I highly recommend a full-day bike rental combined with the Chuncheon Tour Pass Light,
and booking your cable car tickets online in advance.

Note that the Chuncheon Tour Pass is expected to be
renovated and improved in July and August 2026.
