Chiikawa Mogumogu Honpo Otaru: What to Buy & Shop Guide 2026

If you're in Otaru,

there's one place you absolutely *have* to visit, right?

That's the Otaru Chiikawa Shop,

Mogumogu Honpo!

At the official Otaru Chiikawa Shop,

you'll find tons of Otaru-exclusive plushies and merchandise!

It's incredible!

I'll share my review, covering everything from the shop's vibe and Otaru-exclusive items,

to waiting times, how to snag your favorite goods, and more!

The Baby Castella shop opens at 10 AM, but

the waiting area is quite small,

so if it gets too crowded, they might close registration early.

My Shop Visit Experience

I arrived on a weekday (Friday)

around 11 AM, and

there was no wait to enter the store.

Of course, the inside was still very busy,

and the checkout line was long.

However, there *was* a queue for the Chiikawa Baby Castella.

I guess that's because the Chiikawa bakery

operates on a direct takeout system!

At the Baby Castella shop,

they sell bread and ice cream, and also

exclusive Baby Castella merchandise.

I went there to buy the Otaru-exclusive Bap-sae series,

so I didn't queue for the Baby Castella. But now I really regret not buying one of each!

Since outside food isn't allowed inside Mogumogu Honpo,

it's probably best to buy your items from Honpo first,

then queue for the Baby Castella!

The interior of the shop is so thoughtfully decorated,

it's absolutely beautiful...

I wanted to take home all the Otaru-exclusive retro design

stained glass lamps!

Beyond the stained glass on the walls,

there are truly adorable Chiikawa stained glass pieces everywhere.

Even the time spent picking out items and waiting in line

felt totally worth it... ㅠ

Honestly, I was there for the Otaru-exclusive Retro series,

the Bap-sae Usagi (Rabbit) series,

and the new Chiikawa Shop Onigiri series, so

I wasn't able to photograph everything.

I was traveling with my mom,

and the checkout line was so long that

she had to wait for quite a while. ㅠ

Still, here are some of the goods I managed to snap photos of...

There were cute eco-bags, felt badges,

and even tumbler cases!

Acrylic Keyring (I should've bought it! Seriously!)

And of course, there was also the Otaru-exclusive

Butter Caramel Cake.

Among the Otaru Chiikawa plushies,

the Otaru Limited Retro plushies

were the ones I absolutely had to bring home.

I carefully picked out the prettiest ones and brought them back with me haha!

And then, the one I was most excited for:

the Baepsaekawa...!

Isn't it just incredibly adorable?

The "Baepsae" (long-tailed tit) is a bird that's a source of pride for the Hokkaido region,

and if you travel around Hokkaido, you'll find quite a few varieties of Baepsaekawa characters, right?

But the Baepsaekawa sold at the Otaru Chiikawa shop

is the plumpest and cutest of them all...!

It's like an adorable, chubby baby bird

that's put on some winter weight, so

if you visit Otaru, don't forget to

bring one home.

Promise me...!

It was so chubby and cute that

I just kept lingering in front of it forever haha!

The autumn-limited

stickers, eco-bags, and memo pads

were absolutely adorable...!

I only saw the autumn limited editions, but

since winter is undoubtedly the peak season for Sapporo and Otaru,

I'm really looking forward to seeing if the winter seasonal limited editions are the prettiest haha!

Although not an Otaru exclusive,

the Onigiri Chiikawa was also super cute.

I remember it being a new product from August-September, and

the entire Onigiri series was so plump and well-made that it was satisfying to touch,

and just adorable.

Among the Otaru exclusive merchandise,

I recall the price for the Retro Mascot Chiikawa

and the Onigiri Chiikawa was ~$14 each.

As for the Baepsae Chiikawa,

it was ~$15.

What I Bought, and the Final Amount Paid

I thought about buying more things, maybe as gifts for friends, but...

Since I was traveling with my mom,

I couldn't hoard much, which made this fangirl sad...

As a die-hard Usagi fan,

I grabbed the Usagi Baepsae, Retro, and Onigiri versions haha!

I bought two of each,

and added one large shopping bag,

for a total payment of ~$88.

Many of you might be curious if the Otaru Chiikawa shop

offers tax-free shopping, but

unfortunately, tax-free is not available.

Wrapping Up

Otaru Chiikawa Mogumogu Honpo is

the very first Chiikawa shop to open in the Hokkaido region.

I heard it's also the third one to open across all of Japan,

and fittingly, it's quite a substantial store, with about 90 types of Otaru-exclusive merchandise!

For those who love Chiikawa,

I highly recommend you definitely visit it

while you're on your Sapporo trip!

Even if you're not a fan,

it's one of the hottest spots in Otaru

these days, so I also recommend

popping in for a quick look if you're passing by!

The waiting line for checkout can be quite long, so

it's best to visit with plenty of time

before and after your planned visit.
