Sapporo Winter Flight Prices 2027: When to Book for Best Deals
Dreaming of a snowy escape to Sapporo? Uncover expert tips on securing the best flight deals for your winter adventure, including insights on the Snow Festival and off-peak travel.
Sapporo Winter Flights
What's a Reasonable Price for Peak Season?

A recent chat with my sister sparked today's post.
She asked, "I'm planning a trip to Sapporo this winter. What's a decent price for flights?"
So, I immediately started searching for tickets. What I found was quite a range:
During the Snow Festival period, flights were in the ~$592 range.
By adjusting dates just a few days, prices dropped to ~$296-~$370.
And for off-peak November, I even saw flights in the ~$148 range.
Quite a significant difference, wouldn't you say, from ~$148 all the way to ~$592?

Having visited Sapporo multiple times, including during the absolute peak of the Snow Festival, I personally believe there's no need to pay ~$518-~$592 just to go during that specific, ultra-busy period.

The iconic snowy landscapes of Sapporo that we often see in photos are actually more prevalent in Biei.
In Biei, you can typically find snow from late December through late February. This means you can fully enjoy Sapporo's winter charm even if you don't visit during the official Snow Festival dates.

There's plenty to do in winter, from Biei tours to exploring Otaru and enjoying the city's beautiful illuminations!
While helping my sister find flights, I decided to compare Sapporo flight prices by season.
I also included my past travel costs for reference :)
When are Sapporo Flights Most Expensive?

The most expensive time to fly to Sapporo in winter is during the annual Snow Festival.
If you're planning to visit Sapporo in early February, it's a good idea to check if your dates overlap with the festival.

When I was searching for Sapporo flights this time, I played around with the dates. If you aim for the Snow Festival period, you're looking at prices in the ~$592 range.
However, if you shift your travel just slightly, prices can drop to the ~$296-~$370 range.
It's incredible how a difference of just a few days can lead to such a significant price gap for the same winter Sapporo experience.

But is the Snow Festival truly worth this price difference?
I've personally experienced the festival, and honestly, if I were to go again, I'd have to think about it.
My first time, I booked flights during the peak Snow Festival season for around ~$518 per person.
I wanted to see the Snow Festival firsthand, so I booked despite the high price and had a wonderful time.

Then, when I went again in January, I paid around ~$296 for my flight. And again, I had a truly fantastic time.
Once there, I realized that even outside the Snow Festival dates, you can fully soak in the winter atmosphere. Haha.
Between taking a Biei tour, visiting Otaru, and enjoying the city's illuminations, there really wasn't a compelling reason for it to specifically be during the Snow Festival.
So, if I were planning another trip, I'd likely choose flights in the ~$296-~$370 range over the ~$518-~$592 peak prices.
So, What's a Fair Price for Sapporo Winter Flights?

So, what's considered a good deal for Sapporo flights?
After multiple trips to Sapporo, I've developed a pretty good benchmark.
However, winter in Sapporo offers slightly different experiences and prices depending on which month you visit.

✅**November** flights are generally more affordable. Prices in the ~$148-~$222 range are excellent, but if your main goal is heavy snow, you might be a little disappointed.
✅**December to January** is when you can truly experience the winter atmosphere. January, in particular, is when I traveled for around ~$296, so I'd consider ~$296-~$370 a good price for this period.
✅**Early February** is peak season due to the Snow Festival. If you aim for the 2027 festival (February 4-11), expect prices to climb up to ~$592.
Conversely, if you travel just before or after this period, you can often find flights in the ~$296-~$370 range, similar to January.

However, with flights, there's no guarantee that the prices you see now will hold as the season approaches.
Therefore, if you're planning a winter trip to Sapporo, it's less about buying several months in advance and more about grabbing a ticket when you see a price you're comfortable with.
‼️Especially for the peak season of late January to February, if you spot a flight in the ~$296-~$370 range, I wouldn't wait for prices to drop further. If the dates and times work for you, I'd book it.
If you're planning a winter trip to Sapporo, compare prices by date now!
