보통 우리가 가는 알로나비치 있는 보홀(팡라오)는 여기! — And here's where we usually go – Bohol (Panglao), home to Alona Beach!

The idea is to consider only the location and price,

just for a place to sleep.

First off, it's literally right in front of Tagbilaran Port,

so you can walk there. It's truly steps away.

Plus, the best value-for-money massage in the Philippines,

Nuat Thai, has a branch right next door, lol!

Even if you don't do much else, just staying here and getting this massage would make for a pretty good overnight stay.

The Room, and the View

Since you're not planning to do much in the room,

the thought was that a bed would be enough.

(Though... my thoughts have slightly changed after my last trip and this one to the Philippines, lol.

If you go too authentically local... there are some parts that just don't quite fit.

I felt like you should at least go somewhere foreign backpackers frequent...

This place was fine, though, and indeed, there were many Westerners.)

And while writing this post, it suddenly occurred to me:

when booking based on value for a place just to sleep,

why do they always give me a room with two beds, lol?

(I always select the non-smoking room + large bed option)

Is it because these places usually host families or groups?

Thinking about it, (especially in the Philippines)

when I've stayed in places just to sleep due to awkward timing or travel routes,

there have always been two beds.

It generally feels quite spacious.

If you were thinking, "Why is there a random landscape photo at the very top of this section?", then!

This is the view from the room.

It's a sea view, no less, lol.

I couldn't see well at night, so I took it in the morning.

Bathroom & Toilet

I'd heard somewhere that many places in the Philippines don't have toilet seats,

but this was my first time encountering it, lol!

Just the toilet bowl, hahaha.

No lid is one thing, but there's... absolutely nothing. The whole thing.

I asked the front desk,

and they said some rooms have them and some don't.

If you ask, they'll switch you to a room that does, lol.

So this is the bathroom in the room they switched me to.

It was just two doors down.

The shower was pretty standard too.

The amenities are just two bars of soap.

I knew it, so I brought the leftover amenities from my previous Bohol accommodation, haha.

Oh, and there's no hairdryer provided by default.

You have to rent one from the front desk.

Maybe because of the hot weather,

all the budget accommodations in the Philippines didn't have them.

(But you can always rent one from the front desk.)

Breakfast, and Other Facilities

Honestly, I didn't even know breakfast was included, haha.

(I booked this place on the same day, haha.

Lately, I only pre-book places with confirmed itineraries,

and then I just book spontaneously on the spot, adapting to the situation locally as I travel.)

When they said it was included, I thought, "Oh, really?"

So I went to check it out,

And this was everything, haha!

There's coffee (not drip, it's instant coffee mixed with hot water), and a juice that I don't know what kind it was, but it was drinkable. That's it.

The menu is just one Filipino breakfast option,

you choose between chicken sausage and "beef something,"

(From my experience so far, "beef something" often feels like minced beef?

So I chose the sausage, haha.)

Then you choose between sunny-side-up or scrambled eggs,

and between rice or bread.

And then,

this is what you get.

It's really simple, but it was surprisingly good.

The sausage was tasty, and that butter there was unexpectedly delicious, so I enjoyed the meal.

That green one was the juice I mentioned earlier,

I still have no idea what kind it was, haha!

And across from the restaurant, there's this spacious area.

You could probably get some work done here, or just relax.

There are also books (in English).

Things to do when you're bored

Lastly,

even if you ended up staying here because of an ambiguous itinerary or travel route,

and you're only planning to sleep,

for people like me who think, "I'm still bored, though!!" haha,

here are some things to do nearby.

First, for the "I'm bored but too lazy" crowd.

There's a commercial building right in front.

Seriously, right in front.

You can grab a quick bite at the Seven-Eleven there and then head to bed.

Or, in that commercial building, there's also a Korean restaurant,

and a bar, so you might want to check those out.

Since it's right in front of the accommodation, it's super convenient.

For the "Anything's fine as long as it solves my boredom" crowd.

Massage

Right next door, just a 1-minute walk away, is Nuat Thai Massage.

It's a Philippine massage franchise,

offering amazing value for money at 400 pesos per hour (approximately ~$7),

and guaranteeing relatively consistent service.

This particular branch has especially good reviews.

I'm planning to post a separate review of my visit here,

but I went twice.

I asked them a few things for my post,

and they recommended their signature oil massage.

However... since there's no shower facility... I skipped it and

got a dry massage.

But this time, I was able to try the oil massage.

Because after getting it, I could just walk back 1 minute and shower, haha.

Second, a cafe.

You'll find a cafe with a lovely nature-friendly vibe.

It's just a 5-minute walk from here.

Of course, this is definitely a spot best enjoyed during the day.

Up to this point, it's a perfectly pleasant walk.

While you *could* technically walk to all the other spots I'm about to share,

if you're heading there during the day?

I'd highly recommend hopping on a tuk-tuk. It gets seriously hot! 🥵

(At night, it's totally manageable, though!)

Live Music Bar

This nearby live music bar.

They don't really serve full meals here; the menu is mostly focused on delicious snacks and appetizers.

But the atmosphere? Absolutely fantastic! 😄

It's about a 7-minute walk from the previous spot.

But since you'll likely be heading here in the evening, you can certainly walk,

or grab a tricycle if you prefer.

Google Maps states it's closed on Sundays,

and I'm not sure if it was just on the specific day I visited, but

it was also closed on a Monday.

To play it safe, I'd recommend avoiding Sundays and Mondays.

And finally, a shopping mall!

It's a local shopping mall nearby, even closer than ICM (Island City Mall).

It's about an 11-minute walk, but seriously,

NO walking there during the day. Absolutely not!
