The ultimate joy of a free-and-easy trip to Bohol? Hopping on a scooter and exploring wherever your heart desires! For those who haven't ridden one much back home, it's an incredibly liberating and fun experience.

Unlike other bustling Southeast Asian destinations like Vietnam or Thailand, where traffic can be intense, Bohol offers a much calmer environment. This makes it a truly unique place to enjoy the freedom of two wheels.

There's hardly any traffic here. It’s wonderfully peaceful!

Seriously, if you've ridden a scooter here once, it's almost impossible not to want to do it again on your next Bohol adventure!

These two trusty steeds joined me on my Bohol journey. I started with a more rugged, less flashy model to build confidence. Once I felt more comfortable, I switched to a prettier one.

If I had to choose again?

I'd stick with the more robust one. It was easier to control and surprisingly well-maintained. The prettier model, perhaps because it's more popular, had more minor issues. The first one was definitely better. (And the right one, despite its looks, felt quicker at low speeds, which affected turning and starting after a stop.)

So, where are we headed?

To Dumaluan Beach, circled in red on the map. It's incredibly close to Panglao International Airport. I'm already dreaming of a direct flight there next time!

Unlike the famous and easily accessible Alona Beach, Dumaluan Beach is a bit more off the beaten path. It's best reached if you have your own transport (like a scooter!) or are staying at a nearby resort.

I followed Google Maps, but beware—that path is blocked! You can't get through that way.

Unless there's a secret path I missed, even locals told me it was a dead end and to turn back.

The dead end led to nowhere but chicken coops, and I was so flustered asking for directions that I forgot to snap a photo of the blocked road.

After being told it was blocked and I needed to turn around, I realized I should have taken a picture for this blog post! But by then, it was too late to go back just for a photo.

You need to turn in *before* that last fork in the road.

And yes, there's an entrance fee.

Even though there was only one other group enjoying the beach when I visited, it's clear they put effort into maintaining the area, hence the entrance fee.

This is the much-anticipated white beach, though I'd say the natural beauty of places like Boracay still holds a slight edge.

In its natural state, the beach is often covered in something resembling seaweed. To reveal the stunning white sands, all of this has to be cleared away.

When the workers get tired, they sometimes even cook up the seafood they've collected!

During my visit, tourists were a rare sight; it felt like a spot primarily enjoyed by locals. Discovering these authentic local gems is truly part of the magic of a Bohol adventure.

I've never seen seafood prepared quite like this. That fish on the right, in particular, looks… quite intimidating!

In stark contrast to the bustling crowds of Alona Beach, Dumaluan offers serene tranquility. There were hardly any tourists, and even local visitors were sparse. If you're seeking this kind of peaceful escape, consider staying near Dumaluan or dedicating a day to exploring this area on your scooter adventure.
