Best Time for the Sapporo Lavender Season
Hokkaido's magical lavender season runs from June through August.
If you're planning a trip, the absolute best places to catch these purple blooms are Farm Tomita and Shikisai-no-Oka (Hill of Seasonal Colors)!
However, navigating these rural spots without a car can be a major headache for solo travelers or those relying on public transit.
That’s why I booked the Tomoya Biei-Furano Day Tour—it makes exploring incredibly stress-free.
Why I Chose the Tomoya Biei-Furano Day Tour

There's a reason this specific tour stands out: unbeatable value.
At around $38 (5,900 JPY), this full-day Sapporo excursion is incredibly budget-friendly compared to other operators, offering a premium experience without the premium price tag.
Plus, they have a local office right in Sapporo, meaning their dedicated guides are super responsive and reliable if anything comes up.
Most importantly, the itinerary is brilliantly optimized, allowing you to hit all of Hokkaido's must-see summer spots in a single, seamless route.
The Day Tour Itinerary
Here is what the day looks like.
The tour kicks off early, departing from Odori Station at 7:50 AM and wrapping up back at Odori Station by 6:15 PM.

What I loved most was that it includes both Shikisai-no-Oka and Farm Tomita—the crown jewels of summer Sapporo—and allocates the longest stops there so you don't feel rushed.

1. Patchwork Road
Patchwork Road is a scenic drive through rolling agricultural fields, famous for its iconic trees (like the Ken and Mary Tree). It's the perfect, picturesque start to a summer day in Hokkaido.

2. Shirogane Blue Pond (Aoi-ike)
Next up is the world-famous Blue Pond, which boasts a vibrant, surreal blue hue reminiscent of alpine lakes in Switzerland. The summer sun makes the water look even more strikingly blue.

3. Shirahige Waterfall
Shirahige Waterfall (meaning 'White Beard Waterfall') is a stunning sight where groundwater gushes directly out of the cliffside, resembling a white beard flowing into the blue river below. Standing on the bridge and feeling the cool mist is incredibly refreshing in the summer heat!

4. Shikisai-no-Oka (Hill of Seasonal Colors)
This is the ultimate highlight of a summer trip to Hokkaido! From July to August, the hillsides erupt into full bloom with rainbow-colored flower fields and endless rows of lavender. It honestly makes you wonder if you’ll ever see this many flowers in one place again. There's even an alpaca farm you can visit! *Note: The admission fee of ~$4 (700 JPY) is not included in the tour price.*

5. Farm Tomita
Farm Tomita is Hokkaido's premier lavender farm and an absolute must-visit during the summer season. The rolling purple hills are breathtaking, and you absolutely cannot leave without trying their famous lavender soft-serve ice cream!

I got deals for Don Quijote, Satsudora (Sapporo Drug Store), and even the Sapporo TV Tower. These extra savings made the tour an absolute no-brainer.

If you're planning a dream summer trip to see the lavender in Hokkaido, I highly recommend booking the Tomoya Biei-Furano Day Tour for July or August!
