A Serendipitous Find
Bohol's Hidden Gem
Acoustic Live Bar
Sometimes, the best travel experiences are the ones you never planned. I was actually on my way to revisit a spot I’d enjoyed earlier, but as I walked past this cozy villa, the warm glow and the sound of live acoustic music stopped me dead in my tracks.
There was no way I could just walk past this vibe. If the live band hadn't been playing, I might have missed it entirely. It makes me realize just how many hidden treasures are tucked away in Bohol. I was originally planning to spend one night in Tagbilaran City tomorrow before heading to Cebu and flying home, but this discovery has me seriously rethinking my itinerary.
Interestingly, this spot doesn't have its own dedicated pin on Google Maps. It seems to operate as part of a boutique hotel, serving as a peaceful retreat for both guests and wandering travelers.
📍 Bassa Nova Villa
HPJR+QW, Panglao, Bohol, Philippines
🕗 Open Daily: 11:00 AM - 10:00 PM
The live music usually runs from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM. However, a quick heads-up: if the place is empty, they might wrap up early. It’s best to call ahead or, better yet, book a stay here if you want guaranteed front-row seats. The location is a bit off the beaten path, which keeps it quiet but makes it slightly tricky to find.
The performance was incredibly soothing. If I didn't have other plans tonight, I probably would have settled in for the whole evening. My phone battery was running low, so I knew I had to head back to my guesthouse eventually, but I couldn't resist staying for just a few more songs. They played mostly classic oldies and slow pop, which was exactly the kind of soundtrack I was looking for. Honestly, of all the live bars I've visited in Bohol recently, this one had the most authentic, laid-back atmosphere.

When I asked for a drinks menu, they handed me this quirky, handwritten slip of paper. It looks like they might be newly opened or just keeping things ultra-casual, which only adds to the rustic charm. You can order the cocktails listed on the sheet, and they have cold beers available as well.

The food menu has a lovely hand-crafted aesthetic, though the binder rings were a bit broken and the pages were slightly out of order! It’s these little imperfections that make independent spots like this so memorable. It actually got me thinking about how fun it would be to consult for unique local spots like this to help them shine even brighter.

Because of its tucked-away location, the crowd is thin and the atmosphere is incredibly peaceful. I only wish I had discovered this place earlier in my trip!
Bohol Travel Guide: Alona Beach After COVID-19
For a long time, Alona Beach was all I knew of Bohol. But stepping away from the main tourist strip allowed me to discover a completely different, quieter side of the island. There are so many unique pockets to explore if you're willing to wander.
Traveling solo has made this journey feel beautifully reflective and long. My 7-night, 9-day trip gave me just enough time to truly sink into the local rhythm. Anything shorter, like a quick 3 or 4-night stay, always feels like you're leaving just as you're starting to connect with a place.
I even put in a song request, but the band went on a quick break right after! I was planning to head to my next destination after hearing my song, but I guess I'll have to linger a little longer. I'd love to stay at this villa on my next trip to Bohol, though my bucket list of accommodations is getting incredibly long. With so many amazing destinations nearby, I hope I can make my way back to this peaceful corner of the Philippines very soon.

Live performances run from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM. However, performances may be canceled if there are no customers, so it is recommended to call and check before visiting.
There is no formal drink menu, so you will need to check the handwritten menu on a piece of paper. You can order the cocktails and beers listed there.
The operating hours are from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The pub doesn't show up separately on Google Maps and the location is a bit obscure, so it doesn't get crowded, offering a quiet and relaxed atmosphere.
