How to Get from Bari Airport to City Center

your first step is heading to the heart of the city:

Bari Centrale Station.

From a budget-friendly €1 (~$1.10) local bus to a speedy

25-minute train ride, we have broken down the best options

to suit your travel style and budget in 2026.

1. The Train (Our Top Recommendation)

Taking the train is the absolute best and most efficient way

to travel between Bari Airport and the city center.

This is the option we chose, and it was incredibly smooth.

Approx. 25 minutes (The fastest option)

€5.30 (~$5.80) one-way

⏰ Operating Hours

05:26 AM to 11:38 PM (Runs every 20–30 minutes)

💡 Key Details

Simply follow the indoor connecting tunnel (about 1,000 feet / 300 meters)

from the arrivals hall directly to the airport train station.

You can buy tickets at the self-service kiosks

or online in advance at ferrotramviaria.it.

2. Local Bus - Line 16

Line 16 is the local public bus

and the cheapest option available.

It is highly popular with daily commuters and locals.

⏳ Travel Time

Approx. 45–60 minutes (due to multiple local stops)

💸 Fare

Only €1.00 (~$1.10) if purchased in advance /

€1.50 (~$1.65) if purchased directly from the driver

💡 Key Details

The bus stop is located outside the arrivals level.

Once you exit, head all the way to your left.

The final stop is Bari Centrale (Piazza Moro).

While it is a scenic ride through local neighborhoods,

we do not recommend it if you have heavy luggage.

3. Airport Shuttle Bus (Tempesta)

This is a private shuttle bus service operated by Tempesta.

It offers a great balance of speed and comfort,

costing slightly less than the train.

Approx. 25–30 minutes

💸 Fare

€4.00 - €5.00 (~$4.40 - $5.50) one-way

💡 Key Details

It has fewer stops than the local bus and gets you to the city quickly.

With dedicated luggage storage underneath,

it is an excellent alternative to the train if you have suitcases.

However, the departure intervals can be quite long compared to the train.

4. Taxi

If you are traveling with a lot of baggage or arriving late,

especially after 1:00 AM when public transit stops running,

a taxi is your only reliable option.

Approx. 15–25 minutes

Flat rate of approximately €25 - €28 (~$27 - $31) to the city center.

(Make sure to confirm night or holiday surcharges before departing!)

💡 Key Details

The official taxi rank is located right outside the arrivals terminal.

Note that some taxis in Italy still prefer cash,

so it is always wise to ask if they accept credit cards before you get in.

5. Crucial Travel Tips

✔️ Map Out Your Accommodation

If your hotel or Airbnb is a long walk from Bari Centrale,

splurging on a taxi is highly recommended.

If you are staying right by the station, the train is a no-brainer!

If you buy a physical paper ticket for the train or bus,

you MUST insert it into the yellow/green validation machines

before boarding!

If you are heading straight from the airport to coastal gems like Polignano a Mare

or the trulli of Alberobello,

simply use the underground pedestrian tunnels at Bari Centrale

to transfer to the main national rail lines (Trenitalia).
