Khao San Road Bangkok 2026: Cannabis, Clubs & Rambuttri Road Eats

Khao San Road in Bangkok has changed a lot since cannabis legalization.

And in contrast, the calm,

yet moderately lively atmosphere of Rambuttri Road, where I'll reveal some amazing eateries.

When you're traveling in Bangkok, I'm sure many of you head straight for Khao San Road, right?

It's a place my husband and I visit every time we go to Bangkok.

I've been to Bangkok several times before the pandemic, but since cannabis was legalized in Thailand around a year and a half ago, in 2022,

the atmosphere has changed quite a bit compared to before.

Now, the alleys are lined with shops and restaurants selling cannabis,

and you'll find everything from street-side cannabis cookies to candies and chocolates, all readily available for consumption!

Sometimes there were even foods that you might not realize contain cannabis just by looking at them.

Plus, the number of clubs has exploded!

Because of all this, it was definitely louder and more chaotic!

In the end, my husband and I opted for a beer at a restaurant on Rambuttri Road, a slightly quieter street right next to Khao San Road.

Anyway, I'll share our experience there.

Location and How to Get There

If you walk a short distance from Roco Club towards Starbucks, you'll find Rambuttri Street, so it's not hard to locate.

There are no subway or BTS Skytrain stations nearby, so I recommend taking a bus, walking, or a taxi!

You can also take a river boat! If you get off at the Phra Arthit pier, you'll be right in front of the famous restaurant Khun Daeng Kuay Jap Yuan (rib noodles). From there, it's about a 10-minute walk, so keep that in mind.

Khao San Road wasn't as long as I expected,

but when you come to Khao San Road, a photo with the iconic McDonald's is a must-do!

By the way, do you see that green leaf sign in the background?

That image is the symbol indicating that cannabis is sold there.

If you see that symbol, keep your distance...

While it's legal in Thailand, be aware that for many international travelers, consuming cannabis may still be illegal under their home country's laws!

"You could get into serious trouble!"

They sell it openly on the street like that, so I quickly snapped a photo as I passed by.

Cannabis Cookies

At the time, I just thought, "Oh, let's quickly pass by," so I just swiftly took a photo and moved on. But looking closely now, I can see the prices...

200 baht.

That's about ~$6.

There were also cannabis cookies with Poteau crackers or Lotus Biscoff cookies, priced at 250 baht.

Just ~$8!

The prices are surprisingly low, making it easy for anyone to get their hands on them, but for many international travelers, it's a definite no-go...!!!

And it wasn't just one or two places like this; there were truly, truly many.

Club

There are also many places structured as shops or clubs like these.

I even saw some foreigners collapsed on the ground in strange positions as I walked by, which was quite concerning ㅜㅜ

There were also "happy balloons" available...!!

The entrance fee is 250 baht (including one beer), which is about ~$8.

They operate from 1 PM until 2 AM, and it certainly gets super crowded at night...!!

Of course, besides those cannabis-related items, there are plenty of other street food vendors.

Bangkok Tropical Fruit

Tropical fruits, of course!

That yellow one is jackfruit, known as the "king of fruits"!

It's characterized by a slightly musty smell combined with a banana-like taste.

Not quite my cup of tea, though... haha.

Street-side mango, watermelon, dragon fruit, and mango sticky rice.

The fruits are often peeled and sold on skewers for easy eating, and you simply can't miss out on mango when you're in Thailand!

I immediately bought one.

The price was 50 baht.

That's about ~$2.

They're also selling insects like scorpions and larvae...

We quickly passed on those.

There's also crocodile meat!

A small one is 150 baht, about ~$5.

A large one is 290 baht, about ~$9.

After leaving the bustling Khao San Road, full of cannabis shops and clubs, we headed over to Rambuttri Road, located just in the alley next door.

Fried eggs...?

Rambuttri also has plenty of street food.

Rambuttri felt a bit more tranquil.

Tables were set up all along the street,

and the combination of lighting and nature was truly artistic.

So, this is where we ended up!!!

The space was spacious, and the lighting combined with the lush green ambiance was delightful.

A small bottle of beer was 100 baht, about ~$3.

A large size was 160 baht, about ~$5.

We were quite full, so we didn't order any snacks.

Since I didn't take any photos then, I've pulled this one from a YouTube video.

And just when we thought we were full..

we somehow ended up eating again!

Street Pad Thai

Among the countless amazing Pad Thai spots, the one we chose was!

The Pad Thai stall located right in front of McDonald's!

The price was 70 baht.

That's about ~$2.

They added egg,

various vegetables,

and even three different types of noodles, all mixed in generously.

Ta-da! Our finished Pad Thai!

There are so many Pad Thai places, so how was the taste at this one...?

Wrap-up

It's certainly changed a lot since cannabis was legalized!

It felt like there were even more clubs too!

That's probably why many people say they're moving from Khao San to Rambuttri Road these days, and it seems like that's true. Rambuttri was packed with people too! Yet, despite the crowds, it wasn't too loud, making it a perfect spot to sit back and enjoy a beer in a lovely atmosphere.
