But right next door, Rambuttri Road offers a calm yet lively contrast.
Here's a look at both, including some must-try eateries on Rambuttri Road.

Planning a trip to Bangkok? Then Khao San Road is probably on your list, right?
It's a spot my husband and I always revisit whenever we're in the city.
I'd visited Bangkok a few times before the pandemic, but the atmosphere has definitely shifted since Thailand legalized cannabis around four years ago, in June 2022.
Now, you'll find countless shops and restaurants selling cannabis products down the alleys.
From street-side cannabis cookies to candies and chocolates, it's made incredibly accessible!
Sometimes, it's hard to tell if a food item contains cannabis just by looking at it.
There's also been a huge increase in clubs!
As a result, Khao San Road feels noticeably louder and more crowded now.
My husband and I eventually sought refuge on Rambuttri Road, the quieter street right next to Khao San, and enjoyed some beers at a local restaurant there.
Let me share our experience!
Location & How to Get There

It's not hard to find Rambuttri Road; just walk a short distance from Loco Club towards Starbucks.
There are no subway (MRT) or elevated train (BTS Skytrain) stations nearby, so I recommend taking a bus, walking, or a taxi!
You can also arrive by express boat. If you get off at the Phra Arthit pier, you'll be near famous spots like Kuay Jab Yuan (noodle shop) and the Rib Noodle stall. From there, it's about a 10-minute walk to Khao San/Rambuttri.

Khao San Road wasn't as long as I expected, but it's definitely an iconic spot.
A mandatory photo op when you visit Khao San Road is with the famous McDonald's statue!

That's where the McDonald's is!
By the way, do you see the green leaf sign in the background? That symbol indicates that a shop sells cannabis products.
It's best to steer clear of these shops if you're not a Thai national. While cannabis is legal in Thailand, it remains illegal for citizens of many other countries, including the US, to consume it, even when abroad.
Be aware: consuming cannabis could lead to serious legal consequences in your home country upon return.
I quickly snapped a photo of one of these street stalls as I passed by.
Cannabis Cookies
At the time, I just wanted to get past quickly, so I just took a quick photo. But looking back now, I can see the prices...
A cannabis cookie was ~$4.
That's incredibly cheap, less than the typical price of a coffee!
Cannabis cookies with other crackers, like Oreo or Lotus, were ~$5.
Just a few dollars!
The prices are so low that it's easy for anyone to be tempted, but remember, it's not worth the risk for international travelers!
And there weren't just one or two of these places; they were everywhere.
Club
Many of these cannabis businesses are set up as shops or even clubs.
I even saw a few foreigners passed out in strange positions on the ground while walking by. There were also "happy balloons" (nitrous oxide, which is often illegal and dangerous) being sold...
Club entry was ~$5, which included one beer. They're open from 1 PM until 2 AM, and it definitely gets packed at night!
Of course, besides the cannabis stalls, there's still plenty of other street food to enjoy.
Bangkok Tropical Fruit
You'll find all sorts of tropical fruits, like the "king of fruits," jackfruit, with its slightly pungent smell and banana-like taste!
It wasn't quite my cup of tea, to be honest. Haha.
There are street vendors selling mango, watermelon, dragon fruit, and the delicious mango sticky rice.
These fruits are often peeled and served on skewers, making them easy to eat. You can't come to Thailand and not have some fresh mango!

I bought one right away.
It was ~$1.
You'll also find... interesting snacks like scorpions and various insects.
We quickly passed on those!
And even crocodile meat!
A small piece was ~$3.
A larger piece was ~$6.
After the chaotic energy of Khao San Road, with its cannabis shops and clubs, we decided to head over to Rambuttri Road, just around the corner.
Fried Eggs?
Rambuttri also has its share of street food.
But it feels much more peaceful. Tables are set up outdoors, and the combination of the lighting and natural greenery creates a truly magical ambiance.
So, this is the place we visited!
It had a spacious layout, and we loved the green-lit ambiance.

A small beer was ~$2.
A large beer was ~$3.
We were quite full, so we didn't order any food.
I didn't have a photo from that moment, so I grabbed a screenshot from our YouTube video.
Despite claiming we were full...
We ended up eating again!
Street Pad Thai
Among the many Pad Thai stalls, we chose one located right in front of McDonald's on Khao San Road!

The price was ~$1.
They added an egg,
Various vegetables,
And a mix of three different noodle types.

There are so many Pad Thai stalls around, but how did this one taste?

Wrapping Up
Khao San Road has definitely changed a lot since cannabis was legalized!
It felt like there were even more clubs than before!
Because of this, many people are now saying they prefer Rambuttri Road, and I think that's absolutely true. Rambuttri was also bustling with people, but it wasn't overwhelmingly loud, making it a perfect spot to sit down and enjoy a beer in a great atmosphere.

You can take the water bus, get off at Phra Arthit Pier, and walk for about 10 minutes to reach Khaosan Road. Since there are no subway or skytrain stations nearby, it is recommended to use a regular bus or taxi if you are not taking the water bus.
If a shop has a green leaf sign, it indicates that they sell cannabis, so you should avoid it. Cannabis cookies and candies are sold on the streets for around 200 to 250 Baht, so Koreans should be careful not to purchase them accidentally.
The club entrance fee is 250 Baht, which includes one bottle of beer. The operating hours are from 1:00 PM to 2:00 AM, and it gets especially crowded with visitors at night.
Beer sold at restaurants on Rambuttri Road costs 100 Baht for a small size and 160 Baht for a large size. It's a great place to enjoy a beer in a relatively quiet atmosphere, away from the crowded Khaosan Road.
