To be completely honest, you can definitely visit the Grand Palace and Wat Arun
without a guided tour.
After all, you just need to buy a ticket to get in!
But if you go solo, you'll probably just walk in, say "Wow, so pretty,"
snap a few photos, and walk right back out.
You'll miss out on why the roofs are shaped that way,
why the palace was built in this exact spot,
and how the rich history of the Thai royal family—dating back to Rama I—
is woven into the very fabric of these buildings.
You'd have no way of knowing!
But exploring with our local guide made it a completely different experience.
It was a game-changer.
They pointed out hidden details we definitely would have missed,
and since they knew all the best photo spots,
we didn't waste any time wandering around trying to find them.
We just cruised smoothly from one spot to the next.
Traveling with my parents in the heat could have been exhausting,
leading to rushed, lackluster photos anywhere we could find shade.
But our guide escorted us to the perfect, most flattering angles,
letting us capture some truly gorgeous family photos.
And what made it even better was that it was a private tour, not a group one.

and then took a water bus across the river to Wat Arun, which
saved us a ton of walking!
And honestly, our guide spoke such incredible Korean
that I almost wondered if they were secretly Korean! Haha.
We kept admiring their language skills throughout the tour lol.
