The Ultimate Bali Guide: Safety, Weather, and Traffic
Since it had been a while since my last trip to Bali,
I naturally had a few concerns while planning the itinerary.
As two female travelers, would it be safe?
How hot would the weather actually be, and what is the traffic situation like?
After spending 11 nights exploring Ubud, Canggu, and Sanur,
I've put together a comprehensive guide based on my firsthand experiences.

While preparing for this trip,
safety was my biggest concern.
Traveling as two women made me a bit more cautious than usual.
Would it be safe to travel from the airport after arriving at dawn?
Is it okay to walk around at night?
On top of that, neither of us is completely fluent in English,
so I couldn't help but worry about what we would do if a problem arose.
I was basically a walking ball of anxiety... haha.
But honestly, once I got there, I wondered why I had stressed so much.
Over the course of 11 nights traveling through Ubud, Canggu, and Sanur,
we felt completely safe and had zero security issues.
Of course, we didn't do anything reckless,
and we always stuck to basic safety precautions.
The part I was most nervous about was the initial transit on day one.
Our first destination was supposed to be Ubud,
but since our flight landed late at night,
we decided not to make the long drive immediately.
Instead, we booked a night at a hotel directly connected to the airport.
Being able to just walk to our room from the terminal
took away all the late-night transit stress.
It allowed us to wake up refreshed and start our trip in a great mood the next day.
Looking back, it was the best decision we made! lol

After that, we moved through Ubud, Canggu, and Sanur,
and I never once felt uneasy about our safety.
In Ubud, our accommodation was a bit outside the main town center,
so we mostly relied on Grab scooter taxis.
Even riding back at night, it never felt dangerous.
(We usually headed back around 10 PM or 11 PM).
Our next stop was Canggu.
Looking at social media, it gives off a heavy beach club and party vibe,
so I was curious about what the atmosphere would actually be like.
Contrary to my worries,
the beach clubs and pubs were bright, lively, and welcoming.
There are so many tourists, and most places are open from early morning
until late at night. Instead of feeling sketchy,
it just felt like the perfect vibrant town
for traveling with friends or a partner.
Our final stay was in Sanur, which had a completely different energy.
Compared to Ubud and Canggu, it was incredibly relaxed and calm.
It gave off pure, classic resort vacation vibes.
After going hard and exploring all day in Canggu and Ubud,
Sanur was exactly the peaceful healing we needed.
While all three locations had distinct atmospheres,
I don't have a single memory of feeling unsafe.
I assumed Bali would just be unbearably hot 24/7,
but the weather was actually much better for traveling than I expected.
My travel dates were 06/04/2026 – 06/15/2026.
Bali's weather is broadly divided into the dry and wet seasons.
June falls right in the dry season, making it the perfect time to visit.
It barely rained, and the humidity was relatively low.
Mornings and evenings were breezy, making it incredibly pleasant to walk around.
Generally, June through September offers this kind of weather,
so I highly recommend it as the best time to travel to Bali.
Out of Ubud, Canggu, and Sanur,
Ubud was definitely the coolest.
Because it's surrounded by mountains and lush jungle,
wearing just a short-sleeve shirt felt a little chilly in the early morning and late evening.
You definitely need to pack at least one long-sleeve layer.
Also, if you plan on doing the Mount Batur sunrise trek,
a thick hoodie or a windbreaker is an absolute must!
Canggu wasn't quite as cool as Ubud,
but mornings and evenings were still comfortable enough
that we walked most moderate distances.
However, during the day, the sun is incredibly intense.
Even for a 5-minute walk, we'd just call a scooter.
Hats and sunscreen are mandatory, and a UV umbrella is a great idea.
Funny enough, using an umbrella for the sun seems to be mostly an Asian traveler habit...
We were pretty much the only ones walking around with one! Haha.
Finally, Sanur had similar temperatures,
but because our accommodation was right on the beach,
it felt noticeably more humid.
If you're heading to Bali during the dry season in June,
pack mostly summer clothes,
but don't forget to bring a light long-sleeve shirt or jacket for the cooler mornings and evenings.
What shocked me more than anything about safety was the traffic.
I had heard stories about the infamous Bali traffic jams,
but experiencing it firsthand... it was worse than I imagined.
Especially in Ubud and Canggu, scooter taxis are an absolute necessity!
Traveling by car takes forever, and depending on the time of day,
it can be nearly impossible to even get a car to accept your ride request.
Because of this, we almost exclusively used scooter taxis.
I was a bit terrified at first,
but the drivers navigated much more safely than I expected,
and after a few days, I actually preferred it over sitting in a car.
Pro-Tips for Using Scooter Taxis in Bali:
1. Download both Grab and Gojek.
Prices can vary significantly between the two apps for the exact same route.
2. Always wear a helmet.
Even if the driver doesn't offer one immediately, make sure you ask for it and wear it.
3. Book with plenty of time to spare.
During peak hours, it can take much longer than expected to find a driver.
On the flip side, Sanur was a completely different story.
If Ubud and Canggu are ruled by scooters,
Sanur has wide, uncrowded roads that run smoothly along the coast.
We never felt the need to hop on a scooter there,
and we comfortably used cars for all our transportation.
While scooters felt mandatory in Ubud and Canggu,
cars were more than sufficient in Sanur.
For moving between different regions,
we mostly relied on Grab or Gojek cars,
but we pre-booked our airport pickup and drop-off.
It was slightly more expensive than hailing a Grab, but for airport transit, peace of mind is priceless! Haha.

Reflecting on our 11 nights in Bali, my biggest takeaway is that there was very little to actually worry about.
Before the trip, safety was my number one concern, but once there, the only real struggle was the traffic.
If your itinerary includes Ubud or Canggu,
I highly recommend padding your travel times generously.

Since it was a late-night flight, instead of heading straight to Ubud, I stayed one night at a hotel connected to the airport. Being able to walk there from the airport makes it stress-free and allows for a safe start to the trip even at a late hour.
In June, Ubud is surrounded by mountains, making it a bit chilly to wear just short sleeves in the morning and evening, so you should bring a thin long-sleeved shirt. Especially if you are going on the Mount Batur sunrise tour, a slightly thick hoodie or windbreaker is a must.
In Ubud and Canggu, traveling by car takes a long time, making a motorcycle essential. Since prices can vary even for the same distance, it is recommended to install both the Grab and Gojek apps to compare prices before booking a ride.
Unlike Ubud and Canggu, Sanur has wide, uncongested roads running along the coast. There is no need to ride a motorcycle; traveling by car is more than enough.
