Vaccinations – Prepare 6 Months in Advance!

Before any international trip, you can often get travel vaccinations for free or at a low cost through your local health services or travel clinics. Many people don't realize this!

My biggest concerns for a Bali trip are always Bali Belly and Dengue Fever. Getting sick on vacation can seriously derail your plans and make you feel bad for your travel companions. I'm usually very careful, but since my immunity isn't the strongest, I make sure to get all preventative measures done. So, I got my vaccinations well in advance.

Vaccinations (6 months in advance) – Check Your Local Health Benefits!

Vaccinations for Bali Belly and various infectious diseases can often be covered or discounted by your local health department or travel clinics. Be sure to check what benefits are available in your area. If you have a weaker immune system, I highly recommend getting vaccinated beforehand.

Beyond Bali Belly, Typhoid, Dengue Fever, and Measles, Rabies is also a concern in Bali, so it's worth considering.

While support varies by local health department, vaccinations for Hepatitis B and Typhoid can often be administered for free or for around ~$4. So, I highly recommend checking with your local health department to get these affordable vaccinations before traveling abroad.

In 2025, I received vaccinations for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, and Measles before my trip. I got Hepatitis A and Measles at a local clinic. I considered Tetanus but decided against it as my travel plans weren't very activity-heavy.

Entry Visa Preparation

Visa and Declaration Items Before Entry

The system changed on September 1, 2025. Previously, there were four items:

1. Electronic e-Visa / Visa on Arrival

2. Health Pass

3. Electronic Customs Declaration

4. Tourist Tax

Now, the Health Pass + Customs Declaration have been integrated. So, you'll need to prepare these three things:

1. Electronic e-Visa / Visa on Arrival

2. Integrated Declaration QR

3. Tourist Tax

Prepare these ahead of time for a smooth arrival!

SIM/eSIM Preparation

An eSIM or physical SIM card is absolutely essential for international travel. I personally prefer eSIMs over physical SIMs due to the risk of losing them.

✅ I carry an iPad + two phones

✅ As a meticulous planner, using Gojek, Grab, and Google Maps while on the go is essential

✅ Streaming OTT services and listening to music at the accommodation is a must

Because of these factors, I need ample data capacity and fast data speeds.

I've seen reviews where eSIMs sometimes malfunction or have connection errors, causing inconvenience during trips.
