Amuse Sports Rusutsu Ski Rental 2026: Affordable Gear Near the Resort
Looking for budget-friendly ski and snowboard rentals near Rusutsu Resort, Hokkaido? Amuse Sports offers great deals, online discounts, and a convenient location just a short walk away.

Planning a ski trip to Rusutsu Resort in Hokkaido? While the convenience of on-site rental shops might tempt you, their prices often come with a significant premium.

Rusutsu Resort actually has five different ski rental shops located within its premises.

For instance, the Expert Ski shop seemed to specialize in powder skis. Renting a set for three days there could set you back around ~$292.

Even for standard ski gear (skis, boots, and poles), the daily rate inside the resort is approximately ~$73. This is considerably higher than what you might expect at many other ski destinations. If you plan to rent for three days, you're looking at about ~$190.

However, there's a fantastic alternative just across the main road from Rusutsu Resort: Amuse Rental Shop. It's only about a 5-minute walk from the resort entrance, making it a super convenient off-site option.
Amuse Sports (アミューズレンタル ルスツ)
Address: 144 4 Izumikawa, Rusutsu, Abuta District, Hokkaido 048-1711 Japan
Operating Hours: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

For standard gear, Amuse Sports charges roughly half the price of the on-resort rental shops. Plus, if you book in advance online, you can snag an additional 20% discount, making it even more budget-friendly! Their website offers booking options in both English and Japanese.

The entrance to the ski shop was piled high with snow, a classic Hokkaido welcome!

Inside, I found a welcoming reception desk and a variety of ski and snowboard accessories for sale.

Amuse Sports also appeared to offer drinks and food, though the cafe section wasn't open when I visited. After confirming my reservation, I headed downstairs for a size check.

The rental area was bustling with international visitors. As the only independent ski rental shop directly across from Rusutsu, and with its significant price advantage over resort options, it's clearly a popular choice.

They offer a wide selection of both snowboards and skis. I was impressed to see staff immediately waxing and maintaining skis as soon as they were returned from rental.

I brought my own boots, so I only rented skis and poles. My eldest child, however, rented the full three-piece set. We took our time trying on boots to ensure a comfortable fit.

There's a good variety of ski types available. However, it's worth noting that you can't select specific ski models when booking online. Expert skis are also available for rental, but these can only be arranged on-site, not through advance reservation.
Global Explorer's Take
Amuse Sports, located right across from Rusutsu Resort in Hokkaido, Japan, is a fantastic option for ski and snowboard equipment rentals. Given how expensive on-resort rentals can be, this off-site shop is a real find.
It's only about a 5-minute walk from the main resort entrance, which is quite convenient. However, a small downside is that they don't offer a delivery service, so you'll need to carry your gear back to the resort yourself, which can be a bit of a trek. As this is the only private ski rental shop in such close proximity to the resort, it's often the go-to choice for budget-conscious skiers and snowboarders.
The quality of the rental equipment is generally good, and the staff are friendly and helpful, especially with the online booking discount. Just keep in mind that the on-resort ski shops, while offering higher-quality, branded equipment, typically charge double or even more for their rentals.
