Ala Mahaina Condo Hotel Okinawa: The Ultimate Family Stay
Struggling to find the perfect family hotel in Okinawa? Ala Mahaina Condo Hotel offers separate bedrooms, full kitchens, and unbeatable ocean views.
100% Honest, Out-of-Pocket Review
While the 5-star Ryukyu Hotel & Resort Nashiro Beach we stayed at the night before was undeniably gorgeous...
Ala Mahaina was about 20,000 times better for our family!
Why? Because the bedroom and living room are separated,
meaning parents actually get some downtime after the baby goes to sleep!

Seriously, it’s a game-changer. It’s rare to find such a perfectly partitioned hotel layout in Okinawa.
Right outside, you have Starbucks, Blue Seal Ice Cream, and great restaurants.
Plus, the Churaumi Aquarium is just 5 minutes away.
They even offer baby food at the breakfast buffet!

If you are traveling to Okinawa with a baby or toddler,
do yourself a favor and book Ala Mahaina.
For the sake of your evening sanity! I’m exclusively staying here on our next trip.
I’ll also share my price comparison and discount tips below.

1. Ala Mahaina Location & Surroundings
📍 Ala Mahaina Condo Hotel
1421-1 Yamagawa, Motobu, Kunigami District, Okinawa 905-0205, Japan
📍 Airport → Heading North

Ala Mahaina is located in the northern part of the island.
From Naha International Airport, it takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes by car.
Since heading straight there from the airport can be a bit of a trek,
we stayed near the airport in the south for our first night,
and then spent the next 3 days and 2 nights at Ala Mahaina.
Driving up the coastal road on our second day was a beautiful, breezy road trip!
The main reason we chose a hotel in the north?
The famous Churaumi Aquarium!
📍 Hotel → Churaumi Aquarium (3-Minute Drive)

We specifically booked this spot because
it's literally a 3-minute drive from the Churaumi Aquarium.
I'm not exaggerating—exactly 3 minutes!
I originally planned to get there right when the doors opened,
but due to the baby's unpredictable schedule,
we ended up going around noon after a nap.
Because it's so close,
it felt more like a casual neighborhood stroll.
Whether you want to be the first in line or take it easy in the afternoon,
the distance takes all the pressure off.
If you're an expectant mother or a family traveling on a baby's schedule,
Ala Mahaina is an absolute must.
📍 Shopping Complex Right Outside (Hanasaki Marche)

Another massive perk of Ala Mahaina's location
is that it sits right in front of Hanasaki Marche, an open-air shopping and dining complex.
It's maybe a 30-second walk?
You step out of the hotel and you're there, making it super easy to just pop over with a baby carrier.
Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ), seafood, a food court, an amazing onigiri spot,
and Yanbaru Gelato (where you can use the Okinawa Fun Pass) are all right there!

Next to Blue Seal Ice Cream, there's a Starbucks Drive-Thru,
so we grabbed coffee to-go every time we headed out for the day.
The souvenir shop right out front
has literally everything you could possibly want to bring back from Okinawa.
They even had those hard-to-find color-changing tumblers!
📍 Convenience Store (Family Mart)

While the Ryukyu Hotel lacked a convenient store,
there's a Family Mart just a 2-minute drive from Ala Mahaina!
The parking lot is huge, so it's very easy to pull in.
It was fully stocked with so many delicious snacks!
Grabbing snacks and cold beers here,
then relaxing with my husband on our hotel terrace after the baby went to sleep...
Pure bliss. ㅠㅠ
The location is just unbeatable.
If you're looking for a northern Okinawa hotel for your family,
Ala Mahaina is the top tier.

2. Check-in & Parking Info
✅ Check-in: 3:00 PM
✅ Check-out: 11:00 AM
Like most Japanese hotels,
the 3:00 PM check-in time is strict.
You can't check in early even if you arrive ahead of schedule.
However, the lobby has a massive, comfortable waiting area,
and with Hanasaki Marche right outside,
we just grabbed some gelato and browsed the shops,
and the time flew by.
At check-in, kids get to pick out a free plush toy!

A true family-friendly hotel touch..❤️
📍 Parking Information
There's a spacious parking lot right in front of the hotel.
The parking fee is 1,000 JPY (~$7) per night.
Almost all hotels in Japan charge a nightly parking fee these days.
Pro-tip when traveling with a baby:
Pull up to the main lobby entrance first to unload your luggage and your family,
then have the driver park the car. It's so much easier!

They also offer a luggage storage service,
so you can drop your bags off before check-in or after check-out!
It's perfect if you want to hit the Churaumi Aquarium on your last day
before driving back down to the airport :)
3. Superior Twin Room Review
The moment we walked in, we were blown away by
Ala Mahaina Condo Hotel.
Living up to the 'Condo' in its name,
the living room and bedroom are completely separated,
and the kitchen is fully equipped for cooking.
It honestly felt better than most Airbnbs.
Watch the full room tour below
↓↓↓
Even though we booked one of the more affordable rooms, it was incredibly spacious at around 570 sq ft!
The Bedroom (Separated Layout)
This was the #1 reason we chose Ala Mahaina.
Sliding doors completely separate the bedroom from the living area!
There are sliding partition windows next to the bed,
and a separate bedroom door next to the TV.
After putting the baby to sleep, my husband and I
could actually hang out in the living room, enjoy convenience store snacks and beer,
and finally get some real relaxation. 🥹
They even provide pajamas in the bedroom,
along with a 2-in-1 dehumidifier and air purifier! 👍🏻
Living Room & Terrace
The entire suite features hardwood floors instead of carpet,
which is infinitely more hygienic and dust-free for a crawling baby.
The living room features a massive sofa that could basically double as a bed.
During the day, our baby loved rolling around and playing on it,
and at night, my husband actually slept there! Haha.

There's also a comfy 2-seater sofa
that's perfect for collapsing onto after a long day out.

In the center, there's a round coffee table,
plus a vanity and a TV. :)
Because all rooms are ocean view, the terrace
looks straight out over the sparkling blue water!
Kitchen Facilities
To make cooking a breeze, it features a sink and induction stovetop,
along with a microwave, refrigerator, electric kettle,
and even a coffee machine!
The fridge includes a proper freezer section (great for ice packs or storing baby food),
and cabinets are fully stocked with utensils, dishware, and dish soap.
We used the large 4-person dining table to eat
the takeout onigiri we grabbed from Hanasaki Marche for dinner.
Isn't this place incredible?
It made me realize *this* is exactly what a family vacation rental should be.
If we ever return to Okinawa, we are 100% staying here again.
Goodbye, cramped standard hotel rooms!

The hotel we stayed at the night before
was the famous 5-star Ryukyu Hotel & Resort Nashiro Beach in the south.
Ala Mahaina was significantly cheaper,
yet our satisfaction level was way higher here! 🥹
I guess that's just the reality of traveling with a little one.
But honestly, even without kids,
having this much space and full kitchen facilities
is an absolute win.
