1. Oyado Gorinka

📍 Oyado Gorinka
177 Yufuincho Kawakita, Yufu, Oita 879-5114 Japan
Oyado Gorinka is the most affordable option on our list today. During the off-peak season, you can book a room for around ~$64 a night, and even during peak season, rates remain highly reasonable at around ~$128.
Located about a 20-minute walk (approx. 1 mile) or a quick 700 JPY taxi ride from Yufuin Station, its slightly tucked-away location is actually its biggest selling point. You get to escape the tourist crowds and fully immerse yourself in a peaceful, rustic countryside atmosphere.

Each guest cottage features its own private hot spring bath. This means you can soak for as long as you want, whenever you want, with complete privacy—no reservations or time limits required!
The property also provides beautiful yukata robes for all guests, allowing you to fully embrace the traditional Japanese bathhouse culture after a long, relaxing soak.

To make your stay even sweeter, Oyado Gorinka offers a complimentary welcome sake so you can enjoy a chilled drink while soaking in the warm thermal waters. They also offer free bicycle rentals, which is the perfect way to explore Yufuin town at your own pace.
The only minor drawback is that they do not serve Kaiseki (traditional multi-course dinner), and there are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity. We highly recommend stocking up on delicious snacks and meals at a convenience store near the station before heading to the property.
However, given the incredible price point and private facilities, it is a fantastic bargain even without the dinner service!

2. Ryokan Yuri

📍 Ryokan Yuri
2968-10 Yufuincho Kawakami, Yufu, Oita 879-5102 Japan
Conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from Yufuin Station, Ryokan Yuri is incredibly accessible without needing a taxi. Prices typically range from ~$96 to ~$192 per night.
With large outdoor baths that can accommodate up to 8 people, this is our top recommendation for families or group travelers!

✔ Ryokan Yuri Private Bath Options:
• Sizes: Large (1-8 people), Medium (1-5 people), Small (1-3 people)
• Time limit: 50 minutes per session per room
• Available hours: 4:00 PM – 10:50 PM / 6:30 AM – 9:20 AM
Ryokan Yuri features three distinct private open-air baths. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis during check-in, so we highly recommend arriving early to secure your preferred slot. If you are lucky, you might even get to experience all three baths during your stay (afternoon, evening, and the following morning)!
They also provide traditional geta (wooden clogs) alongside yukatas, allowing you to fully enjoy the classic ryokan aesthetic.

You can opt to add traditional Japanese breakfast when booking. It costs an extra ~$19 to ~$26, but enjoying a beautifully prepared, authentic home-style Japanese breakfast inside a cozy ryokan is an experience you shouldn't miss.
Because of its fantastic value, Ryokan Yuri is incredibly popular and bookings fill up months in advance. If you are planning a winter getaway to Yufuin, make sure to lock in your reservation early!

3. Ryokan Yamanami

📍 Ryokan Yamanami
3549-2 Yufuincho Kawakami, Yufu, Oita 879-5102 Japan
Ryokan Yamanami is located about a 15-minute walk or a 3-minute taxi ride (approx. 700-800 JPY) from Yufuin Station. Since the road leading up to the ryokan is quite hilly, we highly recommend taking a taxi.
Pro Tip: If you present your taxi receipt at check-in, the ryokan will actually reimburse you for a one-way fare!
Room rates here range from approximately ~$128 to ~$384 per night.

Yamanami features classic tatami-mat rooms that exude traditional Japanese charm. They also offer spacious family suites, making it an excellent choice for group trips with family or friends.
One minor detail to keep in mind: some budget rooms do not have private toilets, meaning you will need to use the clean, well-maintained shared restrooms in the hallway.

The highlight of Ryokan Yamanami is undoubtedly its outdoor public bath, which offers breathtaking, unobstructed views of the majestic Mt. Yufu.
Since this is a shared public bath, we recommend visiting during early morning or late evening hours if you prefer a quieter, more solitary soak.

A basic breakfast is included with your stay. However, you can upgrade to include a spectacular Kaiseki dinner for an additional ~$77.
Featuring premium local beef, fresh sashimi, tempura, and grilled dishes, this high-end multi-course meal is worth every penny and will elevate your Yufuin hot spring trip to the next level. :)
