Looking through photos from my trip to Sydney, Australia,
makes me want to go back so badly today! (♥)
So, I thought this would be the perfect time to share my Australia travel review.
For my first Sydney travel post,
I'm going to introduce a famous Sydney hostel where I stayed for a whole 4 nights:
< YHA Harbour >!
There are two YHA hostels in Sydney:
YHA Harbour, where I stayed, and YHA Central.
While I only stayed at YHA Harbour,
I’ve combined various reviews
to highlight the pros and cons of both, so definitely check them out (!)

To summarize:
YHA Harbour offers fantastic views, but many reviews mentioned that getting to and from the hostel can be tough due to its hilltop location.
While I haven't personally stayed at YHA Central, it's said to be incredibly convenient for transport, being right in front of Central Station, with excellent airport accessibility. However, even if the tram noise isn't too loud, it's noticeable, so sensitive sleepers might want to consider that!
YHA Central is smaller than YHA Harbour, and apparently, it tends to be much more crowded with guests!!
Since both locations have clear pros and cons, you can weigh what suits you best and make your decision!
As I love exploring on foot when I travel,
walking wasn't an issue for me at all.
That's why I chose YHA Harbour!

On my first day, I took the Airport Train from Sydney Airport and arrived at Circular Quay.
It was a scene I'd seen so many times while preparing for my trip,
but seeing it in person was
so incredibly beautiful, it almost brought tears to my eyes!
The amazing weather definitely played a part, too ^.^
This is the way from Circular Quay to YHA Harbour hostel.
I'm notoriously bad with directions, so I got distracted
and ended up walking in circles around the neighborhood ㅠㅠ
There were a few stairs and uphill stretches on the way,
but since I was wearing a backpack, it wasn't too difficult for me!
However, if you're pulling a suitcase, I imagine it could be quite a challenge.
The vintage
Australian Hotel's backside (you'll see it on the right in the photo)
is actually where you'll find the entrance to YHA Harbour Hostel.
You'll also find a convenience store on the ground floor.
Uniquely, there's a historical site
right on the ground floor of YHA Harbour Hostel...
so don't just walk past it, make sure to go inside and explore!!
This photo might look a bit squashed,
but I still wanted to show you the YHA Harbour elevator! 😉
When you step into the elevator,
you'll see a gray rectangular slot on your left.
Just insert and then remove your card, then you can press your desired floor!
I actually thought it was a tap-and-go system and tapped it multiple times,
but it didn't work, and I ended up feeling a bit stuck in the elevator for a while... learn from my mistake! 😂
Right next to the ground floor lobby, you'll find the
cafeteria.
You can grab simple bites like sandwiches there,
and the spacious area makes it a fantastic spot to just relax and unwind.
Plus, here's a neat perk: guests often leave behind unopened ingredients when they check out,
and these are stored inside for other travelers to use for free!
I thought that was a brilliant idea.
I booked my stay through Agoda,
opting for the 4-person dormitory (private bathroom, female-only) option.
You can choose your bed on a first-come, first-served basis,
and each guest also gets their own locker, which is super handy!
The beds didn't come with curtains,
which meant a bit less privacy,
but surprisingly, it actually encouraged more conversations with fellow travelers,
and I think that was a wonderful thing!
After all, isn't meeting new people
one of the biggest joys of staying in a hostel? ^__^
(But if you really need a bit more privacy,
a pro tip: just hang a towel! ☺️)
Similar to other international hostels I've stayed at,
they tend to group guests by nationality here.
In our 4-person dorm, for instance, it was all Koreans.
In the past, I used to feel a bit uneasy about this,
almost like it was a form of discrimination, and I didn't particularly like it.
But now, I actually find it quite comfortable to be grouped with fellow Koreans!
(And honestly, Koreans are usually the cleanest and quietest guests wherever you go! 😉)
Even though YHA Harbour Hostel
is situated on a hill, making the walk to and from it a bit of a workout,
there's a truly compelling reason why so many people seek it out!
The VIEW !!
To really soak in that view,
I headed straight up to the rooftop and snapped some amazing photos for you!
You can spot the iconic Opera House sparkling in the distance,
and the entire panorama of Sydney's Circular Quay unfolds before your eyes — it's truly breathtaking! ^^
As you can see in the photos, there are plenty of tables up there,
and they even sell alcoholic beverages and other drinks.
It's the perfect spot to unwind with a glass in hand while soaking in the glittering night views!
Honestly, I was 1000% satisfied with my stay at Sydney YHA Harbour Hostel!
I loved it so much that if I ever travel to Sydney again,
I'd choose YHA Harbour without a second thought. It's that good! 😉

YHA Harbour offers great Opera House views, is clean, and has friendly staff, but its hillside location can make moving luggage difficult. YHA Central is conveniently located right in front of Central Station, offering easy transport and airport access, but cleaning can be inconsistent, there's tram noise, and it's smaller than YHA Harbour.
The author booked a 4-person dormitory (with private bathroom, female-only) option through Agoda. Each guest is provided with one locker, and although the beds don't have curtains, privacy can be achieved by hanging a towel.
On the first floor of YHA Harbour Hostel, there is a convenience store along with a historical site. The rooftop offers panoramic views of the Opera House and Circular Quay, and with tables, alcoholic beverages and drinks are sold, making it a great place to spend evenings enjoying the night view.
You can take the airport train from Sydney Airport to Circular Quay and then proceed to YHA Harbour Hostel. Be aware that the path to the hostel involves stairs and uphill sections, which might be fine if you're carrying a backpack, but can be challenging if you're pulling a suitcase.
